Hi Eds, I know all the papers are linking us with every striker going, but after scoring our most goals ever, surely a defensive midfielder must be top priority?
Ederson from Atalanta looks best option, what are our chances and are they looking at alternatives?
Also, due to home grown issues, how would you rate the possobilities of signing the following :
Connar Gallagher
Ivan Toney
Dominic Salanke
Marcus Edwards
Kyle Walker-Peters
Morgan Gibbs White
Sadon Sancho (my choice)

Many thanks for your time and endevour
Matt.

Matt221171

{Ed002's Note -
Ederson (CM) Having a good season and attracting interest from Spurs, Newcastle, Manchester United, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. Barcelona have sent scouts. Atalanta want an auction if he is to be sold - starting at €40M. With CL football and Gasperini staying put it makes it less likely he will be sold.
Conor Gallagher (CM) Borussia Dortmund, Spurs, West Ham, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have declared an interest - possible departure for the summer - but the player has told the club he wishes to stay but has not signed a new contract. An offer from West Ham was turned down last summer. Chelsea are aware that Spurs are likely to look to an offer and they have asked for talks - but the asking price is high. Spurs will likely try an early low-ball offer knowing that Chelsea need assured funds by June 30 - but they pretty much have what they need already. Newcastle offer a wildcard option but the player has no interest in moving there. Al-Ettifaq have made amends to Chelsea after they complained of an illegal approach to Conor Gallgher by Steven Gerrard. Perhaps Spurs or Aston Villa will be able to strike a deal in the Summer.
Ivan Toney (S) Brentford do not want to sell but are aware Toney may look to move up a step and will reluctantly look to perhaps £70M as a sale price in the summer but will likely not get anything close to that. Newcastle - if they can sell their project to him - offer the chance of a return to the club who previously could find no use for him in the three years he was there. Arsenal, Leeds, Manchester United, Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham have all sent scouts on more than one occasion to watch him prior to his ban, but Chelsea and Spurs have preferred options meaning West Ham, Arsenal or Manchester United are likely best placed to complete a transfer.
Dominic Solanke (S) One of a couple of Bournemouth players Spurs have been scouting. Newcastle have a declared interest. West Ham offered an option but Moyes departing would end their interest.
Marcus Edwards (RW/AM) Spurs would like to re-sign the player they let leave for Guimaraes and there is interest from West Ham, but that will go nowhere. Crystal Palace have a declared interest. Discussed with Chelsea on an informal basis and on the list of RW/AM players Chelsea need - but they have a preferred options. Could prove a suitable Salah replacement for Liverpool but Sporting may still have no interest in dealing with Liverpool and they have preferred options, but with a change of coach that may change. Manchester United see him as a potential addition and have declared an interest - but much will depend on what happens in the summer with the coach and their having a preferred option. Sporting has no interest in selling and would demand his full release clause in a single payment.
Kyle Walker-Peters (RB) Will stay at Southampton.
Morgan Gibbs-White (CM) Will be available to ease FFP issues. Newcastle or Spurs may offer an option.
Jadon Sancho (W) Borussia Dortmund would take the player back but would not pay more than half of what they sold him for and will step back unless the demands of the player and club are more reasonable, or a further loan is offered. Newcastle may have provided an option but signed an alternative. Agent approached Spurs but they can be discounted. Perhaps a loan to buy for Juventus, but they will not accept an obligation to buy. RBL may be open to a discussion.}

Hi Eds, probably a strange question, but do you have any knoledge of our outgoing players ( as whoever we sign can't be much worse)
Especially the following :
Aurier-cannot defend, always out of position letting wingers drift behind him and he couldn't pick a cross at the Vatacan.
Davis- defending is suspect, but going forward, stops at half way and passes back.
Sissoko- Touch of baby elephant and final third, like a headless chicken.
Rose, too interested in opinions than football.
CCV / KWP not at the level required.
The following three I would suggest, would only be to raise funds
Lamella, Moura and Alli. These always give 110% but with financial restrictions, could give us some welcome finances.
Any info on these and any others would be most welcome.

Matt221171

{Ed002's Note - Hugo Lloris (G) time has come but will squeeze an extra season out of him to save money.
Kyle Walker-Peters (RB) Crystal Palace and Southampton have been in discussions with Spurs over taking KWP on loan for next season as the player is keen to get game time after this season’s loan has been disrupted. The problem is that Spurs are keen to sell Serge Aurier and Milan are pushing for a loan to buy (as they do not have the funds to buy him and a low bid will fall on deaf ears). Milan are also being pushed to take Kenny Tete. If Aurier departs it means that any move for KWP could well be delayed until Spurs can get their replacement (ideally Elseid Hysaj) in.
Serge Aurier (RB) available.
Danny Rose (LB) available.
Jan Vertonghen (CB) is out of contract and Mr Mourinho wants to rebuild the defence.
Juan Foyth (CB) will be allowed to move on if cover is found.
Eric Dier (DM) may be available.
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) not really working out at Spurs hence their looking to Geoffrey Kongdogbia and although the club want to persist with TN Mr Mourinho doesn't and the player says he is at the top of his game. Barcelona are still interested and have a number of players that could interest Spurs including Nelson Semedo (RB) - who is being offered around as a means of raising cash; Sumuel Umtiti (CB) - but I fear he would very quickly frustrate Mr Mourinho; and of course Philippe Coutinho (AM/LW). Spurs will not get a sale at a reasonable price so an exchange might be viable. If Spurs could soft out the wages for Coutinho, Barcelona may be open to a deal.

Cheers Ed002, many thanks for your insight, only dissapointment is, youve not listed sissoko and I still have faith that Foyth will turn into a good player if given a run of games.

Hi Eds, has all interest been dropped in Jay Rodriguez?.Seems strange that we were linked with him for nearly a year while injured, but now fit, nothing has been mentioned.I know he signed a contract till 2019, but this hasn't stopped us before.

Matt221171

{Ed001's Note - clubs are just waiting to see how he gets on with his recovery. His injury was worse than first thought, hence the length of time he was out extending. No one wants to take a chance of a player struggling the way Falcao did last season.}

Thanks Ed001

Hi Eds, Do you know how much of a kitty we have for this transfer window or is it only from sales of players?
Also, how long before the squad is fully assessed, so we can identify the key areas for our transfer policy.
Surely everyone can see we desperately need a LB, CB, CF as our priorities.
Cheers, Matt.

Matt221171

{Ed001's Note - there is defo a kitty of some kind, over and above sale of players, as Poch was made some guarantees when he took the job. I have no idea how much, just that he was made a guarantee he would be given funds. He has also been spending some time reviewing the squad and discussing things with Levy etc, oh and both parties agreed with a need to add strength to the club in left back and forward positions prior to him taking the job. I am told that Sevilla refused Liverpool's offer for Montero mainly on the basis of the interest Spurs are showing in him, so maybe something could happen there. Unless Sevilla have read the situation wrongly.}

1.) Cheers Ed001, great reply. I have more confidence for this season if we can address the correct positions, unlike last season where we overspent in the midfield. I appreciate we need at least 2 players for each position to cover injuries, create competition and even the chance to rest players, but this can only work after making sure the first 11 are good enough to challenge for the top 4 then have quality in depth.

{Ed001's Note - Poch has asked for, and received, final say on the positions bought and sold. By that, I mean he will say which positions he wants to strengthen and give a list of the players he wants for each position. It won't be like it was under AVB, where he was just getting handed players and told to sort a team out of that lot. Even when the players incoming were ones he had specifically said he didn't want! That should help the club out a lot. By the way, you will soon see who actually wants to play for Spurs, as Poch will have the players in twice a day working hard. There will be a few murmurs and moans about that from the lazy!}

2.) Again, many thanks Ed001, looks like we might finally be moving in the right direction as a club, cheers Matt.

{Ed001's Note - Poch will sort the men from the boys, that is for sure. Now it is just up to the club to back him, because there will be players who don't buy in to his regime. So it might be a slow start, as the players struggle to come to terms with the extra fitness work they are being asked to do. My worry is that Levy will panic and pull the trigger without giving him time to turn it around. After all Levy is no longer truly safe in his role either, he is seen as on dodgy ground, far too many mistakes lately for such a high profile and well paid job. If he has the courage to stand behind Poch, I can see him making a real long term difference to the club.}
