French media are reporting that Capoue has NOT fractured his left fibula. Let's just hope this turns out to be true, but he looked in serious pain, so it may even be ligaments which would be just as bad.

As for last day of the transfer window, the latest news I've come across is that United are, like ourselves, allegedly sniffing around Coentrao, but that Ancelotti has said he's going nowhere.

Damiao's name has been rekindling some interest on this and the Liverpool website, but personally I just don't see it. Hernandez may still be the one upfront that we have the best chance of, although I've also seen us linked with that Joel Pohjanpalo, the Finnish starlet from Helsinki and the Troy Deeney option is intriguing. Juan Mata would be fantastic, but Eriksen will play that role for us, so that is no longer a need in my opinion.

Me? I'm just still reeling from what we've achieved this summer at a net cost of about £2m. Amazing turnaround, although I do have a few concerns about team chemistry and bonding, but we have some great raw talent to play with now. Lamela and Eriksen could be just the sparks we need to link up better with Soldado, who looked very isolated today, I'm sorry to say. (Have to say, I thought Dawson, Dembele and Chadli looked a bit ponderous at times - especially the moment when Daws floundered in the centre circle and got pickpocketed. The sooner Kaboom or Chiriches are up to speed, the better!)

We can't really expect much more of an outlay, and I reckon many of us were crossing our fingers that Coentrao might have been slipped in as a parting gift from Real, but it wasn't to be, meaning United are expressing some interest now. But in all honesty, I think we're done, apart from loan deals to get some of the younger players some playing time. Still can't believe Gomes is on the books. Really like the option of sending Carroll elswehere (Ajax was my preference as I suggested a few weeks ago; I don't think QPR is ideal for him.

Anyway, chins up Spurs fans. The enemy won the battle, not this year's war.

1.) I've been unimpressed with Dembele since he arrived. Not sure what his contribution is over the course of a season . but I'd be surprised if he is till here next season unless he starts to produce

2.) I don't think it's necessary to play Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue in the same team unless we are protecting a lead. Against Norwich it would be interesting to see Paulinho & Dembele in the middle with the creative eriksen operating in the final 3rd, picking the passes that we certainly lacked yesterday. Lennon back on the right with Lamela on the left(rotating with Lennon) and Soldado up top.

3.) Expect to see Eriksen replace Dembele and Sandro to slot in and replace the injured Capoue

Ok guys. Easy time to panic, what with the injuries and the disappointment of what has gone before, but really all we need is a little bit of luck and good fortune, starting with the return of Vertonghen in his rightful place in the centre of our defence and not out on an island on the left flank, where he is wasted. Jeez, the guy was named as a starter on the Premier League Team of the Year last season, so why are we messing around with him. The fact that he is eligible for the remainder of the Champions League makes him very attractive to a lot of teams, and I for one, think that we should play him exactly where he wants. As a result, the only transfer I think we need to look at is at LB. Now, I've heard a number of options mooted - Shaw, Cole, Baines, Cresswell etc - but really, at this stage, are we going to do much better than bringing good old Assou Ekotto back from the oblivion that is QPR? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Shaw or Baines on our left flank, but let's face it, it isn't going to happen, so the next best thing - and the cheapest option - is to recall BAE from Harry and his cronies. Anyone else agree?

PS. Happy 2014 to all. Going to be a a Lilywhite year. !

BigBird72

1.) I take it you haven't heard about his latest tweet (which he deleted) then, inviting the anti semitic comedian that Anelka did his gesture to to Whl. Ekottu should never play for us again.

2.) Was crap when he was here, is crap now and will still be crap if he came back! Couldn't defend to save his life, and was a catastrophic waiting to happen!

3.) Spot on Davo

Hi guys. Well, the window has been nailed shut - despite David Moyes's attempts to keep it open forever - and we're already being linked to various players for the future.

Pato, it seems, was a last minute target from Corinthians. Interesting option and certainly one out of left field. Hard to believe he's still only 24, but this one might be worth re-visiting in January or, as some Brazilian reports are suggesting, next summer, either before or after the World Cup, and depending whether the former Milan player makes the Selecao squad.

Then we hear links of us sniffing around the PSG starlet, Adrien Rabiot. I must confess, I know nothing about this kid, but I don't for an instant believe PSG with all their wealth, would let us slip in and snap him up. Really don't see this one happening.

Finally, I wanted to come to Alen Halilovic from Zagreb. Looks like a good player, but I wonder now that we have Eriksen, whether we even need Halilovic now.

Anyway, back in July, we heard that we had agreed a transfer involving him and defender Tin Jedvaj, but then the deal blew up in our faces and the latter opted for Roma instead. As far as I can find out, Halilovic - despite a rumoured visit to Croatia by Levy - is still there and no future option on a transfer was signed. Does anyone have any information to add to this? Ed? {Ed002's Note - There was certainly an approach about Pato. Adrien Rabiot got himself in to a little trouble with the club after complaining about not being a first pick for the team. I think a move unlikely in the short-term but there is interest from Italy and Marseille.

BigBird72

1.) I wouldn't rule it out and it's more then likely halilovic will happen in January and be loaned back to finish the remainder of the season. I believe daniel Levy has now turned his attentions to Young u21 starlets and I think in January he will spend time filling the academy with top, young future stars.

Hi guys. Was just reading another site that specialises in the transfer markt, and I noticed that we are one of only two teams in the Premiership who participated in any deals to have come out in the black. That's us (c £4m) and Everton (c £7m), after their last minute heroics on deadline day.

That's a pretty amazing feat when you consider that we topped the spending table, and reiterates what a fantastic job Levy & Co. have done in this window, which will surely go down in Spurs folklore! Given the fact that Bale could have been wiped out with one late tackle against Hull City or their likes, it was futile to resist the offer and the temptations put before us by Real. In the end, no-one would have said no, but boy did Levy charge Real for the privilege! We have rebuilt our team, re-stocked the larder, have pundits and fans alike purring about the potential in this squad now, and all for the price (albeit, a rather exorbitant one at that!) of one Gareth Frank Bale.

So, like many recent posts, I see nothing but a very bright future for the Lilywhites. Should really raise a glass to Mr Levy and to Mr Bale. We are surely heading upwards.

Aren't we?

1.) Why does Glen Hoddle have doubts about your transfers this season. What is it that he sees as a problem? Maybe losing your matchwinner was not quite as good a deal as you first thought.

The guys at Madrid are not totally stupid and they were more than willing to do the deal to get Bale.

Levy may have got the money but when Liverpool got the call from Madrid about Suarez John Henry said no and told Madrid not to bother calling back. Levy didn't manage to do that.

Time will tell whether Levy taking the money and selling the biggest asset you had is wothwhile.

Would you rather have a 10 carat diamond or a pocket full of cube zircona?

2.) Tommy Gunn,

I would rather have what we have which is diamonds with the potential to be better than 10 carot, think you need to worry about your own lot mate

3.) Tommy, you could also say that the season we refused to sell modric to the chavs, you sold RVP to man utd. Also you bowed to fabrigas to Barcelona. Player power always wins and don't you think the reason Suarez is still at Liverpool is that either no offer was made or not enough money was offered?

To all those Eriksen haters out there, just have faith and if we do manage to nab him, let me assure you that we will be getting a top young talent for a fraction of what he should really cost, given his contract situation.

If you want evidence of his ability, just watch the Man City and Dortmund games from last season, where he was the key man for Ajax on both occasions.

My only concern is that AC Milan, who have now negotiated the Champions League playoff with PSV, have been sniffing around him, and now they have assured their own progression in that particular competition, I feel that we need to act quickly and stump up what Ajax want, which seems to be in the order of £11m. That is a snip for what you will get in return.

Just my thoughts on it. BigBird72 COYS

Well, the transfer targets keep on coming, and Bale keeps on staying. When will it all end? (Well, Monday actually. )

Anyway, we're supposedly in for Eriksen and showing interest in Ever Banega and Hernanes, not to mention Atsu, who now looks to be yet another benchwarmer at Chelski. Good riddance.

But my reason for this post is not to laud Levy & Co about possible newcomers, but rather to analyse the Bale deal in a little more detail, and primarily to look at the implications of it.

My main concern is that a transfer should be something of a two way street. Typically, one team pays good money for a good player and both teams benefit. In our case, we get a king's ransom in return for our star player. We benefit, and so do Real.

However, we keep hearing about how the Bale transfer promises to trigger the whole market, and this is perhaps why Levy is frustrating everyone with his delays and refusal to rubber stamp the deal which everybody knows has probably been carved in stone for weeks now.

IMO, I think Levy is holding back simply to frustrate the plans of other teams. Take Arsenal for instance. If we sell Bale, then Real are likely to recoup monies from the sales of the likes of di Maria, Ozil, Coentrao and/or Benzema. Personally, I don't want to see us handing any of those players to Arsene at a cut price rate. United too, are sniffing around Ozil like flies around $*^%.

It is my hope that Levy is simply trying to get everything done and then hold off until the very last moment to prevent the other teams from benefitting by snapping up Real Madrid castoffs on the cheap. In an ideal world, perhaps he'll look to sign the deal off about 15 mins before the window closes, but I honestly can't see such a daring game of brinkmanship, and if this did happen, then Madrid would probably either cave in to his demands for more cash, or pull out completely. I'm not sure which is worse at this stage. What do you think?

Just a conspiracy notion from my twisted mind! Thanks for reading.

Talk that the Coentrao to United loan deal wasn't done in time.

Shame, I was hoping that this might be the deal that could have been the final piece of the puzzle for us. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that Coentrao is the finished article, but he's an upgrade on Rose, whose penchance for attack and lack of defensive nous exposed us for the goal on Sunday, and it's where we will be exploited all season. But anyway.

And can anyone tell me why a bid or an expression of interest in Baines wasn't even submitted.? Could have given us two English international fullbacks! Oh well, I don't seriously think any of us can have any gripes with the efforts and productivity during this window.

Fan-f*ckin-tastic signing! This is the guy I've been clamouring on about for what seems like two seasons. Great vision, delivery and brain. Once he gets up to speed with the pace of the EPL, this guy is going to be Soldado's best friend. Have to say I'm absolutely delighted with today's acquisitions, but especially this one. Levy, Baldini and AVB - take a bow! Good work my friends, good work.

Now all we have to do is delay the Bale sale to prevent any Real players strengthening our rivals.

The last few weeks have been unbelievable. No club has ever been so active in the transfer market, and whilst personally I think we might experience a few teething problems in terms of the team and squad gelling, I think we have just set out our stall for not necessarily this season, but certainly the 2014-15 one. Roll on the good times. COYS!

Davo, have to agree with you on Naughton. I think he's rubbish, and would much have preferred to have seen us retain BAE and send Naughton to Harry's crowd instead. The Lloris handball (let's be honest, it was outside the box!) and then the lackadaisical clearance attempt from the boot of Naughton created 2 of Cardiff's 3 chances in the whole game. He is clearly a liability who hopefully will only get a run out in minor matches.

Great start to the season, but in those 5 games, it is pretty evident where opponents are attacking successfully against us - on the two flanks - and particularly down our left side. Coentrao, Baines, I don't care. Just please get an improvement in there quickly. Rose is an upgrade on Naughton, but he still has room for improvement too. Mind you, I'd probably be an improvement on Naughton. Very much in the Livermore category of, "future international" which no sane person can ever manage to grasp. Taxi for Naughton?

Pike, don't fret. Granted Ozil is a great buy for the Woolwich, but Coentrao - whilst he would have been an upgrade for us at LB - isn't the most solid of defenders and let United have him.

We have a great nucleus of players now, and if we compare our squad of a month ago to what we are feasting ourselves on now, then it's chalk and cheese. We just need to bear in mind that our starting point was considerably below that of the top four. We have certainly reduced the gap, and that's all we could ever have hoped to have achieved.

I echo your comments about Levy, Baldini and AVB. Not used to a quiet deadline day though. Very anti-climactic!

To Jaylillywhite - your comments are spot on sir! With all the grief we have all directed his way over the past few seasons, I think a standing ovation would be a fitting nod to the chairman. Hopefully, he'll be at the Lane - a special guest and former employee from Ajax at his side - now that would be impressive!

To the post who suggested abstinence on my part, you could be right. However, the rumours on the go today would seem to suggest that I wasn't far off the mark, with Spurs allegedly demanding £125m to sell Bale to United. Keep the faith friend and put it down as poetic license on my part. Which actually wasn't far off. BigBird72 COYS
