why is it that we can see how shocking dawson and rose are but super tim cant? And if Mr Levy cares so much about the club how about stop signing players and focus on getting rid of them two first then get some decent defenders in. Vlad and jan are the only two we got, young fredericks looks a good talent and would rather him play than dodgy rose or walker. Lamela badly needs games and if he starts finding his feet then he will set the lane alight just like a certain bale did.

Perhaps it is because we are wrong about Dawson and there are no realistic alternatives to Rose.

Dawson has never been absolutely top class, but most fans on this site can only see his weaknesses but never his strengths: the things he does wrong, but never what he does right (which is plenty). I would remind you he is not just a blind spot for Sherwood. Dawson has been a 1st choice player in his position for most of his time at Spurs and that means he has done enough to convince Santini, Jol, Ramos, Harry, AVB and now Sherwood that he has something to offer.

As soon as we get a top quality replacement it will be time to let him go, especially as he has been too injury-prone in recent seasons. But we need to be sure we get the right man to replace him.

If Kaboul could ever keep fit, he might be the best man to play beside Vertonghen, but I have doubts about Chiriches. He does some good things, and has assets that Dawson doesn’t have, but he doesn’t look physically strong enough and is not good enough in the air, to replace him. Against Palace, he didn’t get his head to anything all game. I see him as cover for Vertonghen rather than a partner for him.

As for Lamela, I have no idea how good he might be. I have seen one good performance from him (in a relatively easy Cup game) and a few good flicks and passes in other games, but that is no basis for me to hail him as the next Gareth Bale. Of course I want to see him get his chance, but if he hasn’t been getting picked it must be because he hasn’t been showing anything in training.

One thing that bothers me, is that if our whole squad was match fit and our entire season depended on the next game, we might not pick any of the players we bought in the summer.

And if our whole squad was fit, and we didn't pick any of the new signings against Everton, then we would definitely get beat! If Sherwood doesn't play a proper DM against Everton, then they will stroll through the middle at will! Add to that Dawson getting turned inside out, and run ragged, = Defeat!

KM always enjoy reading your posts, lots of well thought out comments and opinions. Keep it up.
Davo, well same old sh*t really!

Spurs1985, we must write from the same pen mate!

Philosophy now is it? Even a song you love will get old if it's left on repeat!
I've nothing against you Davo, sometimes your posts have so much depth then other times, well see above.

Agreed KM. Dawson is a great pen box defender, gets lots of blocks and clearances. Yes we know his weakness is his speed, but if you play tactics that exploit the weaknesses of your own players well you are a bad manager.

Kaboul is kinda the opposite. He's fast and physical, but on the other hand his positioning is poor and he allows himself to get dragged (especially vertically) which creates gaps.

Yes in the summer I think that we should look to sign a CB to form a strong partnership with Verts (and Chiriches as backup). Dawson is reaching the end of his career, and Kaboul is too injury prone, so both would not be in a first XI plan for me next season. But that's because we should look to improve, not because either are bad players - like all of us mortals they have strengths and weaknesses. The role of a manager is to make the strong points of your team exploit the weaknesses of the opposition team.
