Liverpool fan, here in peace. Just wondering what your opinions are on AVB being appointed? Many mixed reactions I've seen (from football fans in general) so was just wondering what you guys think. Best of luck for the new season, look forward to hopefully competing against you guys for top 4!

Pete

Believable2 Unbelievable0

We will both find top 4 hard this season i think, with new managers, but for different reasons.
we are going to change our team with a few substantial signings, down the spine of the team, which will probably take time to gel.but should big dividends for future seasons.

youve already made your big purchases under king kenny, and rodgers has to work with what hes got, which could prove very difficult.

We seem to be signing younger players, I dont think Levy and AVB see next season as important but the one after as key.Our new look team will take time to gel. Champions League football is not a necessity next season, give AVB time.

You are only saying that because you know you have no chance of champions league...

chavski were defense orientated so the attacking style of avb went against the grain and unfortunately for him terry and lampard were the grain so he really never had the squad to lose he wants a passing attacking style (reminds me of last season i think) so he and tottenham should, should be a match made in heaven a couple of players in the right area's and we could do very well indeed. so lets get behind the new era and lets back avb as someone has already said 13 million from abromovich a man who loves money and is advised very well indeed chose this guy so he has got something and now he is at a club that also aspires to creativity we are on the up. i loved harry but now things have changed we have to too

Id give avb 6/12 mnths if you finish outside of the top seven or a run of bad results we all know how fickle the fans can be and a lot of spurs fan are undecided on avb he has to get of to a flyer otherwise the pressure will mount on him and the team...its sink or swim time peeps

Should never of sacked Harry. He put us where we are now. There in no way AVB will be any better that Harry. I cant see him being as good either. Bad decision to sack him in the first place even worse to to apoint AVB

Believable2 Unbelievable9

Nothing like confidence eh.
Give it up will you.
Just get behind the team FFS.
No matter who there, playing or in charge, we are spurs. Get behind them.
You doom merchants are gonna drag us all down.

Agree6 Disagree0

"He put us where we are now" Thats only one place up the table more than Jol did, that doesnt make Redknapp a messiah. I dont actually believe that he was sacked purely for football reasons, there is certainly more to it all than that.
Lets move on.

Agree3 Disagree0

Harry couldnt keep his trap shut ,and did he think of Spurs when the England job was being banded about , NO . As long as he is alright , thats good enough in his eyes . He could have took the contract on offer earlier in the season , he could have done his last year and proved he was good enough to give a new contract but he did neither . He took his eye of the ball and cost us a CL place , he was tactically unaware , and couldnt be trusted with a decent transfer kitty . If he was still here , we would be looking at carrick , cole , johnson , anyone who was one of his babies at west ham ! Get used to it , he has gone !

AVB is at last been confirmed, as we all knew he would. But please fellow yids don't panic by his dismal run at chavski, AVB is one of the best tactical coaches around, he plays fast flowing attacking football (Spurs football), You don't win a domestic league without losing a game if your no good, not to mention a cup treble. AVB was just unfortunate that his first job in the PL was with the Chavs, no manager has ever lived upto the Special one, and Di Matteo, will only last the season if hes lucky, then they will try to replace him with Guardiola who will also struggle, because just like AVB he will also be tasked to overhaul an aging squad that run the Chavs. AVB stood no chance at chavski, but WILL succeed at WHL, givrn time.
And to all the fans everywhere who think selling modric would be devestating, think again, yes he is a fantastic player, although very ordinary last season, but players come and go all the time, we will replace him with someone who wants to be here, he will go and either be very sucessful or end a bench warmer, but if you look at ManU over the years Fergie has built teams over and again.
Replacing players like Cantona, Beckham, ROnaldo and pretty much the entire golden generation of the Neville brothers, pallister, bruce, irwin, , hughes, scholes, butt, mcclair, cole, yorke and probably more than I can remember, all players are replacable, even if its not a direct replacement, modric leaving will strenghten the team overall.

I am a long time reader, but first post.

Firstly thank you to this site I won on AVB being our new mnager, and not only am I happy for the money, but also the excitement of having him as our manager.

Something which hasnt yet been picked up on, did AVB have a transfer period at Chelsea? I dont ever remember him signing anyone, and his time at Chelsea was very much dictated by the "old guard".

With our young squad, and a chance for him to have a say on the additions to the team, he should have a team in the literal sense of the word, and can build for a great attacking future.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

He signed mata, meireles and romeu {Ed001's Note - no he didn't, AVB only got to sign one player - Meireles - the rest were not his choice.}

Agree3 Disagree3

Oh dear, loserfool fans, you are sooo good for a laugh, worry about your own team, we have a manager who at 34 has already won a european trophy, plus a domestic league and cup treble, without losing a league game. Whilst the best you can do is employee a manager who had an ok first season in the epl. Don't get me wrong I think Rodgers will be a very good manager, but all you tracksuit brigaders, who are on about a top 4 finish and more, please get real, if king kenny couldn't do it in his 1st full season for a while what makes you think Rodgers will fair any better, its not the manager its your team.

Modric this season.

5 goals 6 assists.

Good enough?

Discuss.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

3 goals I think you will find

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not our goalscorer but that doesnt matter, he is absolutely key to our playing style and i think it would mean disaster if he were to leave.

Agree1 Disagree5

I agree he could score more goals. Lets not pretend we wont miss him, he's class but replacable imo. Not disasterous if leaves i dont think. I want him to stay but only if he os impressed by avb and actually wants to play. The worst outcome would be if he staye this season gave less than his best and devalued himself and then went.

jesus,give the bloke a chance!
it seems to me that hr and his coaches werent prepared to give our youth a chance, reading todays club statements.
instead,hr probably wanted to throw the cheque book at the problem,as hes done at previous clubs[portsmouth especially]and buy old players, with little resell value, which levy obviously doesnt endorse.
avb has obviously impressed with his thoughts regarding our younger squads and i wish him the best.
i really hope hes a success, just to ram all doubting words back down those doubters throats.
talksport this pm was almost unbearable, full of doom and gloom regarding this appointment, even from fellow yids.
his coaching is reputed to be top class, his tactics up there with the best and he is highly regarded by the special one,so he comes with great credentials.....if only i could forget about his short spell at the chavs.perhaps it was just not meant there, but dont forget ra paid 13million to bring him to st bridge,so he obviously thought avb offered something special!
i believe he will prioritise younger players for those positions we need, and they will be technically good players to continue with our policy of playing attacking attractive football.
my glass is half full, and hopefully will soon be overflowing as avb earns his spurs
b/s.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Just score a goal fom a set piece practiced in training and it will be an improvement.

Agree1 Disagree0

Avb deserves a chance. Built our success on finding potential ie bale 3m walker and naughton 3m dawson 3m lennon and rose were about the same huddlestone all brought for teir potential and didnt cost the earth. This is how we should carry on and build for the future. Then add a few top quality signings to the mix ie damaio and oscar with vertoghen and siggurdson. All who are young talented players.

All over the net these so called chelsea fans saying this and that about us geting AVB saying just cause he got sacked we will sack him sonner rather then later, newsflash for you chelsea fans youve sacked every manager in the last couple of years u had even mourinho for god sake look at him now hes still top world manager, jealousy is a starnge thing knowing really that your lose could be our gain and he could bring us to the next level AVB could of won you the CL andFA CUP to but yea never gave him a chance n he could of built on that and made yous a top team.

One the cups chelsea won was total luck you parked the bus for the semi and final of CL and still won it even tho u were second best team for both games, enjoy it cause RDM wont have much luck next year with his sit back and defend tactics, your team be sending every1 one 2 slleep be so boreing

Agree0 Disagree1

Hate to lint it out but under AVB chavs were doing better in EPL than hey did with RDM. Full acknowledgement for winning CL and FA Cup, but let's see how than pans out over the next 2 years. I feel better about our future than that of the Russian mob

Believable2 Unbelievable1

03 Jul 2012 16:26:44
Ok so Mr Levy has got his main target AVB he also has a point to prove after his spell with spurs. We dont have many BIG igo players like chelsea just one sulk (mod) if he stays or goes i dnt care about him one man dnt make a team. Weather you like AVB or not this is not the issue NOW its time to get behind our beloved team and AVB and see first hand what he is capable of doing at the lane. After the month of frustration i must admit we now have a captain of our ship so feeling a bit better. He can attract the players we would all love to see as done a great job with porto. As his time with chelski that was a trial period now its time for AVB to shine at the lane, and now the rumours going roung of 70mil war chest hopfully MR Levy will sign the cheques for AVB to bring us to that next level that MR Levy keeps going on about.....Com on u SPURS............

Well its official, We have got our new manager in place, I hope he proves me wrong as I for one don't rate him... Looks to me like DL has bought into the idea that the young manager will bring fresh ideas but he FAILED at Chelsea so why would he succeed here?

Yes he won in the portuguese league but to lose the dressing room so early on at Chelsea says a lot.

With the club statement as well to me it indicates that our youth players will finally be given a chance at least. However I can't see AVB doing better than HR but I guess time will tell, or maybe not as the case may be.

Either way he is here now and I will still be going to the lane so fingers crossed and good luck AVB, this WILL be your biggest challenge to date....

Now hopefully we can get some quality signings in and I can be on my way to be proven wrong...

Well AVB confirmed as the new manager on BBC. Not sure he's a step up on Harry and might not have been my first choice to replace him but he's the Guv'nor now and as such we should all get behind him. One silver lining, I don't think he would have come if Levy hadn't promised him a decent transfer pot.

Genuinely excited by the AVB appointment. Last summer he was undoubtedly the hottest property in Europe, and his travails at Chelsea can only have made him a better manager. If this appointment had been made last summer spurs fans would have been ecstatic, and we must also remember that when he left Chelsea they were only a couple of points behind us, with a team far less suited to his philosophy. With renewed investment (I'm sure he wouldn't have risked joining without it) I genuinely believe we can push on next season. COYS

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Well atleast he is used to eu,ropey league,so found his level straight away....

Agree5 Disagree1

Hottest property in europe .ha ha ha ,who said spuds dont have a sense of humour!!

Agree4 Disagree0

After he left Chelsea won the fa cup AND the champions league! Before he left they were clueless with him in charge!

Agree3 Disagree0

Glenn hoddle and certain other pundits are trying to stir the sh.t u by saying avb appointment. well glenn had did your managerial reign go at thfc. many peoples opinions vary as to weather he is the right man or not. i say give the bloke a chance, yep maybe he will be a mistake, but on the other hand he just might surprise a few people. get behind the team the manager and the club. thfc are the team we support so lets get behind them

Agree1 Disagree0

This is because chelsea have players that are detrimental to any manager, the squad you had was left from the mourinho era where the style of play was completley different. It's ok buying players with an attacking style this season but whether the Di Matteo knows how to implement it tactically is a different story. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't last the season. AVB is a good manager and your loss is our gain in my opinion. Granted you won the champions league so feel free to pipe up about that but the players such as terry, lampard and drogba play for themselves

Agree3 Disagree1

The mentality of chavski fans. AVB was closer to the top 4 than RDM. AVB everages more points per game than RDM. You was never knocked out of a cup comp with AVB. So who is your manager? RDM. Ha ha you couldn't make it up and you have the cheek to mock us.
Always have been and always will be a small time club.
Now you say you are champions of Europe, you may be, by pure luck. Out played in last 3 games of that comp. suppose your the best team in Europe haha you are no where near it. When the Russian money runs dry, you will be shafted and I can't wait.
Bring on AVB, I can't wait. You lot are running scared. That why you are chirping now, before you can't.

COYS

Agree1 Disagree1

Twaddle, how do you know they "play for themselves"? If they truly played for themselves then their club would win nothing!

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite interesting that AVB has been appointed as "Head Coach" not manager also Levy is quoted as saying AVB shares the vision of developing players"
People can blame Chelsea players but AVB will need to change the way he approaches many aspects and that includes players who arent being selected. In terms of ego players like Gallas and if he joins Sturridge have egos as big as the channel tunnel

Agree0 Disagree0

They may be a small club but they have a big trophy cabinet!
If avb had stayed at cfc they would have been more than 2 places below spurs and probable won nothing, would you have still wanted him as your manager then? Also they were knocked out of the league cup with him in charge, your facts are wrong!

Agree2 Disagree0

I can not let the comment go regarding AVB more points that RDM on average well the truth is that RDM was battling on three fronts and had no choice but to prioritise not forgetting he had to re build player’s confidences. Bear i mind how bad or how good he was RDM has won more as a manager in the last 3 months than most managers will win throughout their whole career
AVB was called DVD man at Chelsea he was also disliked by not just players but many employees at Chelsea where he was said to ignore or treat like dirt just about everyone. He could not relate to squad players. He could just not engage with a significant number of people from outside the club including many journalists who struggled when in his company.
AVB made huge mistakes at Chelsea, he no doubt will be the first to admit it but the simple truth is he was far too technical for the majority. He plays a high defensive line based on Barcelona’s style of all out closing down . Chelsea didn’t have enough technically gifted players to achieve this and i very much doubt that the current Spurs squad will fare any better.
Spurs do have youngsters but reflect on this. Fridel 40+ Cuddicni 38 + Parker 31+ King 32+Pinear 30+ Gallas 34+ Van Der Vart, Defoe, Dawson all 29+. All players that in the last throes of their top level careers and they really will not welcome someone just about their age who never has played at any serious level telling them how it should be done.
People harp on about Terry, Lampard and Drogba but AVB fell out big time with Kalou, Mikel, Lukaka, & Cahill. All these players are a lot younger than the Spurs players I mention above. In the cases of Alex and Anelka he treated them like dirt not allowing them to sit down with the other players for Christmas lunch nor allowing them to park their cars in the players car park. This went down like a lead balloon with the rest of the team who arranged a separate meal where AVB and staff weren’t invited.
Having said all that time will tell but for now the fact that he has signed for Spurs means that £100k a week in respect of his wages and an undisclosed amount for two others comes of Chelsea’s wage bill.

Agree2 Disagree0

One word.....'excuses'

Agree0 Disagree0

So how many fronts was AVB competing on....let me see....oh yea....1.....2.......3, guess wot, it's the same.

Agree1 Disagree0

So your point is??
AVB still has a better record, at chavski, than RDM. They where both in the same competitions. Pointless post.

Agree1 Disagree0

We should cash in on modric this summer, it's not like he scores a lot of goals from midfield, and to be honest last season he was not the most influential player either!..would rather see the hardworking, non stop running, tackling machine that is sandro play instead..would not sell him to a rival premiership club though!..if real madrid want him?..give us £40m and spend it on a top proven striker or two.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

*facepalm*

Scoring isn't his game ... His game is passing and he's exceptional with passing
He was statistically for players in his role the best in the EPL last season and he wasn't even giving 100% he is a cracking player and I just wish his head was never turned by Chelsea ..
He had slightly fewer passes than joe Allen is swansea who had the most passes
Highest % for long pass completion rate
He is basically the best passing machine around... And the fact of the matter is only because city won the Leuage and are being ass kissed by every * other than man u fans * critics out there he would be the better than silva ... I will get ripped for that and I don't care but it's the truth * minus the goals * if modders heart and head were still with us last season no team would have been able to afford him and we wouldn't have been without CL .... Rant over
Bear Yid

Agree1 Disagree1

People forget so quickly... the season we made champions league ratfink was out injured for 7 months with a broken leg. it was huddlestone and krancjar that ran our mid field for most of that season take the money he will be no loss. tbh he cant defend he goes missing for long periods in games take the money.....

Agree4 Disagree0

Oooohhhhh..bear with a sore head

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the first poster, we don't score enough goals from midfield, too much pressure was then put on ade and vdv, this in my opinion is why we didnt finish third. Parker is our holding player, why have another player in there who just sprays the ball about, lampard does that but also bangs in 15 odd goals every year. We need an attacking midfielder alongside Parker. Getting rid of modric is the way forward, even if he wants to stay.....
