Guys relax. I've read everyone's comments and you all have valid points in part. Avb had no reason to say what he did. That was way out the blue. and to say we was quiet when we actually won? What's he thinking off? What you watch a boxing match and a good punch is thrown, you jump up off you chair waving your arms about! No? Football is the same when something good I'd done on the pitch you will get a reaction from the crowed. The desperate 30+ thousand chant ( coys) is just that. Avb it wasn't needed you made a mistake. Worry about the players you have got not the fans after all we dnt kick the ball! I think I can recall a similar comment made at Chelsea when they lost just before the sack. avb if you loose the fans you will loose you job simple. Silly boy.
Also our favourite chant is band .

In your opinion AVB was wrong but you clearly missed the point of the debate as I for 1 am praising AVB for his comments. If he had said it when we lost it would've looked like he was blaming the fans, right? So IMO he chose the perfect time.
Like you said we won, why we're the fans quiet? When I used to attend the lane week in week out we used to cheer regardless of the score, can someone please tell me what's changed?
I can't see the logic in going to the game to watch live if the fans there aren't going to create an atmosphere, I mean ain't that the reason it's better being there than watching on tv?

If you need an example of real support guys then think back to when we played Seville (find some way to watch it if you wasn't there), it was half time at the lane and we were losing 2-0 I think. We needed 4 goals to get to the next round, the fans spent the whole second half singing, never stopped. Ok we didn't get the win we needed but our team looked a different class and we scored 2 goals to atleast draw on the night. Now that's the reason to go to a game, not to sit there quietly!

Mr g I generally agree with you but with this one, respectfully I think you are wide of the mark. as stated above the fans DO make a difference so why oh why would we want to make a negative difference and put trepidation into our players. you are correct its not our job as fans to kick the ball its our job to support the eleven players on the pitch and in order to do that we must be positive. Before we go any further NOBODY has to do anything positive or negative its a free world but with the best interests of spurs in mind the mood should be positive whilst we play, once finished have your say by all means. What I have just said has been reiterated by the supporters club and are going to have talks with the club as to how to move forward on this issue. Go to the lane and be as negative as you want but don't complain about performances or results as anyone being negative at the ground are guilty of contributing to the performance. And yes it is a big brave stance by a manager who is not afraid to put his neck on the line for the team ahead of himself, there are not too many who have the balls to do that so as said before get behind the team and move forward and if you want to speak your mind about a performance after it has happened fair play to all of you

Ridiculous comments from AVB, talk about giving yourself a potential problem you don't need. He needs to come out ASAP and say that he apologises for any offence and perhaps his true meaning was 'lost in translation' - that he meant it more as a rallying call or a 'you fans are so great most of the time we notice it more when you're not' kind of comment.

Otherwise, if we have more of the sideways, slow it down because we're playing patiently (but although we're calling it patience, it's actually a bit of ineptitude at times) football at home against Hull, West Ham, Sunderland, Palace etc, then we will be just as anxious and frustrated. Particularly when there are lots of mistakes; dawdling on the ball in our own box (Dawson, Walker, Vlad), diving in challenges giving away dangerous set-pieces (Dawson, Walker, Sandro), isolating our striker by having a number 10 that ends up in a 10-yard triangle deep in midfield with Sandro and Paulinho (Holtby) all going sideways and backwards.

It was a win but a fortunate one really, deserved on reputation and possession but not on genuine chances created.

We definitely need to time to gel and players to get used to each other and the league. I'm fine with that, we'll be up there enough in the meantime to stay competitive and potentially be very very good next year BUT, AVB should say it that way; that he understands the fans frustrations but they're working on it and they'll get there and in the meantime they'll keep trying to grind out results to make sure we're in the mix. A Chelsea-esque blunder in my opinion.

Soldado man of the match by a mile for us - he won things in our own box, charged the goalkeeper's kicks down, had to play on his own with no real support for long periods and slotted a very cool penalty away for us.

A fair assessment, until that extraordinary final paragraph.

Methinks you do protest too much.

Soldado worked hard (he always does) but was again completely ineffective. He is a major worry. He just doesn’t cause the defence any problems. He never gets his head to a ball in the area, doesn’t beat people, doesn’t get shots off, and doesn’t hold the ball up and bring others into the game.

Back in July, I said I didn’t think his pedigree justified a £25m fee. At present I see no reason to change that view. It is still early days, and I am sure we haven’t begun to see the best of him yet, but already I fear we bought the wrong sort of striker.

We wanted a player to lead the line, but Soldado just looks like a replacement for Defoe. Whether he is a significant improvement remains to be seen. He seems a bit stronger, but not as mobile. He looks to be a cooler finisher, but makes fewer chances and has fewer shots.

I heard a rumour that in the summer Levy wanted to buy Benteke and it was AVB that wanted Soldado. If that is true, then I think Levy was right.

Both were over-priced and Benteke was relatively unproven, but at least he was the right kind of player.

KM you hit the nail on the head. I am a big fan of Soldado but the way we seem to be setting up would suit the Benteke mould of striker. Maybe when Lamela integrates into the team Soldado may benefit but the inverted wingers is not helping Soldado whatsoever. Although even then Lamela is an inverted winger himself just a lot more creative.

However it doesn't half feel good to be confident when a penalty is awarded, haven't felt like that in a long time.

KM,

I said Soldado was man of the match, not player or signing of the season. I don't think his work rate could be denied in match in which we created nothing really and he was isolated. He's usually isolated and, as you say, if you're going to play that way and throw him into that system when he's not that type of player then that isn't really his fault though. We actually need on IN-FORM AND MOTIVATED Adebayor to do that job. Not a popular choice but the best player on our books to play that role, IF (big if) he's on his game.
AVB has done ok but we're now seeing what sort of manager he is with a squad to develop and get right for the greater good, he didn't have many choices last year for what XI he picked. The comment about the fans was stupid and, as somebody else has posted that nobody has picked up on at all, Spurs fans have been told not to use a certain word that features in several popular songs; *** army, the drum-beating and ***s chanting, ***dio ***dio, who let ***s out etc etc. Ridiculous that claims fors not to sing were all the rage last week, now AVB puts his size 7s in it with those comments. He may be lucky and it blows over.

After his 'couldn't-care-less' performances last season, Adebayor would have to do a lot to win the fans over, but if he could perform even as well as the previous season he would be a useful stop gap for this year.

With Adebayor leading the line, even reasonably well, we might start to see what Soldado is really all about.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any coming back for Adebayor. He seems determined to let his career dribble away in under-achievement.

Agree0 Disagree0

KM,

I agree, maybe we'll get a tune out of Ade if he features in Nov and/or Dec if he's trying to bag one more big contract from somebody in January!
