Fabio Coentrao is wanting a move away from Real Madrid, we should get him quickly and ward off interest from other clubs, we need a left back desperately

Likely to follow Jose to Chelski I suspect

Flog Huddlestone, Parker, Livermore, Gomes, Adebayor, Demsey & Benny and get Luka, Soldado, Damiao and cover in the middle for Sandro. Job done.
This is easy.
Next problem.

Not sure if I believe this, but have heard a rumour Levy is trying to bring Modric back as he is unhappy in Madrid and his wife still lives in Chigwell and wants him to move back to Britain - his agent is pushing for Manchester United tho'

Any thoughts on what system we're likely to play next season? 4-2-3-1 (with Bale in the middle) or 4-3-3 (with Bale as a wide forward)?
Gonna make a massive difference to what we do in the summer in terms of transfers.
If we go 4-2-3-1 definitely need to add some creativity into the 3 behind the striker. For all Bale's quality he isn't the best with his back to goal, getting on the half turn and threading a clever pass (a la Van der Vaart or Modric). I'd go for Belhanda; shouldn't be too pricey, can play on the left, but would drift and rotate within that 3.
If we go 4-3-3 then Bale obviously plays from the right as a wide forward. Then we need to add the creativity in the central midfield area to truly replace Modric. Holtby has shown some potential in there and with a pre-season under his belt could be decent. But could do with something a bit special in there. Also, however much I love Lennon he doesn't suit playing in a 4-3-3, so we have to add another wide forward from the left. I'd go for Mertens at PSV or Son Heung-Min from Hamburg, both really good options with the potential to improve.
Obviously either system requires at least 1 new forward (2 if we can ship Adebayor, but with his wages I'm not particularly optimistic). Obviously, Damiao is going to crop up again (potentially a terrific signing, but is it ever going to happen?), as will Benteke (good player, likely to be overpriced), Villa (can't see it) and a number of others. Personally I think AVB really wants to get Damiao, and if that doesn't come off we could well be left in the lurch.

Thoughts?

Good discussion to start but I think one of our problems is that we get too fixated on just one formation of just one team. Different games pose different problems and require different players.

So against top teams I'd be more direct and have Bale playing centrally and have assisting strike runners (players like Defoe, Lennon, Dembele, and a new left winger). Against lower teams this speed won't help as they will sit back so I'd play Bale wide and have a creative midfielder more central - someone who can unlock a defence - and have someone bigger playing up front.

We dropped a lot of points against the lower division teams because despite 60%+ possession we didn't have the players that could break them down.

I think it will be 433 with bale gone, as he got you most points you will struggle for the Europa league, why do spurs fans think they are a bigger club then they are is laughable

Ok, we're probably going to sell/release 4-5 and buy 2 average players then somehow try to manage next season with even less numbers but, how about potentially realistic business we could do EARLIER THAN AUGUST 31st Mr Levy?

Damaio - for god sake, if we really really want him then let's just sign him. Fee reportedly more like £17m than the previously touted £20-25m so get it done or move on.

Soldado - 50/50 whether Valencia make Champions League. May have to try and sell either way but price could be much more like £18-20m if they do, we won't get two strikers for that much.
OR.
Negredo - says he wants Champions League football but also wants to play in the Prem so unless Mancs, Chelski or @r$3 want him then worth an approach and could be £10-12m.

Eriksen - GET HIM IF WE CAN. Looks class, young, Levy's ideal big sell-on carrot if he does well. If Liverpool are an option at £15m then we should be trying to get him.

Vermalean - ha, we need a new left back if they don't fancy Rose, £5m. Would just be hilarious to get their captain, play him alongside Vertonghen and watch him pop up with the odd goal like he does. As for patchy form, we have BAE so anybody would be more solid. Only joking but it would crack me up.

Sell.

Huddlestone - £3m (unfortunately)
Bentley - £1m (if we can get it!)
Gomes - £2-3m (last year of contract so won't get more)
BAE - £5m (maybe more even though he's a liability)
Dempsey - £5m (he has popped up with odd important goals but they've been made more crucial by our lack of strikers and scorers, he's technically not good enough - between him and Sig it's no contest)
Ade - £5m (can be devastating but just too temperamental and a let down all season until April when it was too late. was he injured a lot or playing for a move - can't be trusted!)
Gallas - released (has been brilliant at times but is past it now)

Parker depends on fee and Sandro outlook. Need a back-up holding midfielder and he may be it now he's another year older. Can't invest everywhere and we need some numbers.

In: £22m ish, Out: up to £45-50m. Oh dear, that won't happen.

Would rather get rid of Livermore than Parker if only one of them are to go. Livermore is unbeleivably rubbish, one of the worst ever spurs players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good idea, so pointless I'd forgotten him!

So Vermaelen would take a step down to go to Spurs? Are you drunk?

Ted

Agree0 Disagree0

I was mucking around but 1point over a season isn't exactly a mega-step down is it?
Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

No, but I think going from Champion's League to Europa League is.

Benteke has said if a top club comes in for him, he won't let Villa stop him from moving. what do you think guys? would be a quality signing, much better than Adebayor

I don't know how to make this any clearer. WE NEED TO SIGN WILFRIED BONY.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shout it as much as you like but your telling the wrong people. Get hold of oracle, he can speak with Damiao, and then when he's speaking to Levy and signing a contract for the 10th time then message recieved.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we got Bony and Benteke I would be absolutely ecstatic. Think of the two of them up front with the service from Bale and Lennon!

Agree0 Disagree0

His legs are so big he looks like he struggles to lift them off the ground to run!
Hard one to call, he is a battering ram and could be what we need but, I wonder if he's technically good enough when it comes to the pace of the Premier League.

WILFRIED BONY is pony and not good enough for to take us to the next level, better left well alone.

Why do you keep spouting this crap about Bony? I reckon he would be a huge sucess. Take a chance on him, rather than waiting for him to move to another club, be a huge sucess and then want him when his fee has doubled and therefore we miss out. He can't be any worse than Defoe or Adebayor.
