How about a cheeky bid for Yaya Toure? A Bugatti, a giant birthday cake of himself and a bunch of flowers should do it although Levy would probably offer him a smart car, a chelsea bun and some daisy chains. Don't forget to shake his hand Levy! What are our chances ed?

{Ed018's Note - slim to none and slim just walked out the door}

Ed018, do you think he is trying to get a move? Barcelona maybe?

{Ed018's Note - I think he's looking for more money from City}

They've won it, I'm gutted they have. Fair play if you lift the trophy and they had us, Liverpool and Everton on the way however, they never left London and if they'd had those tougher ties in the semi or final, I doubt they'd have got over the line - Wigan and Hull pushed them all the way, a bigger side in those biggest games and they would have bottled it as always.

Pochettino hasn't managed a team in European football has he? He hasn't over-seen bigger names or signings, he has only just finished with a team in the top half!
I'm not saying he can't be successful, I just seriously question whether we should gamble on it given the long list of failed 'projects' we've had!

Simmo I understand every Spurs fans desire to get this next appointment right, we have been here too many times! I'm not having a big name equals stability and success, I definitely ain't having Benitez is the answer either!

The fact is the momentum we had has been lost and for me we ain't getting it back next season so I would rather see realistic expectations set with an up and coming coach, playing with a clear style and WHL back to its old self than totally unrealistic expectations set with so called big name manager.

Personally I like what Pochettino has done at Southampton and I would like to see him appointed. My understanding is he has spoke English from day 1 however he speaks Spanish in interviews to put distance between himself and the media. Hey if he didn't speak English then I would be expecting Levy to be trying to tap up his interpreter for the job :)

Would you have said the same thing a few years back re Rodgers and Martinez? Would you take either now?

Its just my opinion and will back anyone taking up the hot seat, let's be honest its not an easy job.

Hi STID
I know what you're saying, we all need to be realistic however in the past 5years we've finished 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th, 6th and margins (until this year) have been very tight with the place above in each campaign too. We've finished above City, Chelsea, Liverpool and now United in that time (we need to add another name to that list!). Unfortunately we have gained just one Champions League appearance but, we are in the black on transfers throughout that time and all with a smaller stadium than the others. That is actually a great platform and there have been chances to push on without going nuts, in my opinion Levy botched these and subsequently has made the gap a bit bigger again but, with some ambition and not too much risk, we should still push the top 4 and really be going for any piece of silverware.
I have always been an advocate of Martinez and wanted him before AVB (it'll be in my past posts), he felt like somebody to give a chance to if we were going down that route. He'd been managing longer than Pochettino and the problem now is we've been through two more managers of the 'give them a chance' ilk which increases the pressure on such a gamble and creates both apathy and un-rest.
Rodgers actually wouldn't have been my choice. Fair play to him but he's generally inherited some good situations (Martinez's Swansea) and had some good luck (Liverpool this season; less games, settled side, rejuvenated Gerrard, United, Chelsea, us changing managers, Suarez!). If Liverpool had sold Suarez they would not have been top 4, no matter what the rose-tinted say. We did sell Bale and look what happened.

Would prefer De Boer, a winner at player level on all levels and a winner as a manager. Also would keep Eriksen and Jan happy, and would get total respect of players because of his record as a player and a manager

Agree0 Disagree0

De Boer possibly better but got to adjust to Premier League and winning with Ajax is not the same.
Agree on the respect issue though.

Agree0 Disagree0

His number 2 is the issue, nearly all managers bring their own and his is Bergkamp - that would be hilarious but so doubtful. Then would it leave De Boer taking longer to settle, having to find somebody he really wants to work with that closely, trusts, good enough etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bergkamp was a spurs fan as a kid. But people like him are pro's and would be committed to whoever they work for. Stam would also come and he was a united man but I am sure it wouldn't matter. Fact is If FDB would come and his staff would follow I think we would reap big rewards. Poch is still untested, just one good season so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty much agree with all of the above, wouldn't be gutted to see de bour at the lane but agree with Simmo he still comes with a question mark.

It's going to be some job to galvanize some of the big names especially vert, I think the message needs to come from the top that no one is leaving unless the new manager signs off on it! Respect the club or ROT in the STIFFS!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you STID, our books are in the black from the past few years so no player should be allowed to hold us to ransom anymore. Current and potential players need to see that they can't just have one decent season and then use us as a stepping stone causing unrest in the process.

{Ed003's Note - different world now just make sure the ones to keep get a birthday cake lol}

Yes Ed003, unfortunately player-power has gone nuts. Sherwood was trying to fight this too far too quickly but, there has to be some effort to prevent the real short term-ism where possible.
