rumours going round that Baldini has quit Roma what's the odds on us getting him as sporting director

Personally, I think the book is closed on that one.

Why do you think that?

Surly it may make sense to sell bale to the highest bidder and but a quality team. let's face it bale needs quality round him to help out. I can't see levy keeping him and spending 40 mil. Can u lot?
Mr g

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It makes sense for mr g, to get behind his own team.
FFS mate, major downer.

Mr g, you make me want to jump off a pier.

Wake up man. Things ain't that bad.

Depends what the highest bidder offers. If it's £40m like a lot of people say then I wouldn't do it - I think losing a talisman like that not only robs you of his goals but makes it harder to attract the good players that can improve the team. We can't offer CL football but we can say come play in a young team that is on the up and has a world superstar in it already. That makes a difference.

If the highest bidder was going to make Bale the first £100m+ signing, well. everyone has a price.

Really hope levy invest big this summer. Feel bale could be on his way out after real are planning an 80 million bid for the welshman. I fell as if we've got to take this as this is extremely good money and feel theses should be our ins/out:
Ins
Villa
Damiao (18-22)
Aubameyeng (12-16)
Bernard/erikson (10-15)
gaitan/atsu (20-25)/ (2-4)
coentrao/shaw (10-15)
Altogether I feel this could cost between 70-93 million
To get this money I feel we need t sell:
Bale despite being amazing) (80)
Hudd (4)
Livermore (3)
gomes (1)
BAE (6)
Defoe (5)
Adde (4)
which eqauls 103 mill

Wishful thinking there Spud, Bale is not worth 80m.

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess he won't be leaving the lane then

Think you'll find any 1 player is worth whatever a team is willing to pay for them so if RM want to pay that money they obviously would think he's worth it. Understand?

Agree0 Disagree0

He may not be worth 80ml but its how much Real want him. If they want him as bad as they are letting on he may end up costing 80ml.

Hey NoName exactly what I wanted to say. A player is worth what a buyer is willing to pay

must feel weird to educate on the internet when wiki is always ready :/

80ml of what? Water? You should be able to get at least a litre. ;)

Talk of an bid of 85 million in the times today

Looks like things could be taking a turn for the better with Real Madrid, Now that Suarez has said he wants to leave Loserpool, surely this will be the easier and cheaper target for them to buy, £50m should buy him for them and hopefully once they get him they will leave Bale alone for this summer at least.
On the striker front now seems like every man and their dog want David Villa, seems DL may have dwelt to long on this as well. I hope he does spend the money needed this summer, but can see us selling more fringe/deadwood and replacing with players brought from bargin basement and leaving us short not just on quality but numbers too, IF this happens I can see 2 things happening at the end of the upcoming season, 1 Bale leaves and 2 AVB leaves. Bit extreme I know, but if DL doesn't invest top 4 is a non starter for the season, Europa would be lucky and I honesty can not see Bale hanging around and I would be pretty sure that this isn't what AVB expected when he signed.

So same as the last 4/5 years then, but this time with even worse conclusions

Agree0 Disagree0

Our numbers were already too small this season, particularly up front where we were AT LEAST one striker short. Without Bale's bundle of world class goals we'd have been nowhere so sell him and we actually need two top-level forwards plus some extra quality in midfield.

Bernard won't join us, knows much bigger teams are scouting him, happy in brazil, ownership issues (I think?) and fee being banded round (40 million euros) is something we will not pay. Have to just face facts again this summer. Players like Bernard, Erikson, Damiao etc. will all be looking for either a) CL football, b) first team football before the World Cup, c) High wages or d) playing for a top european club challenging for trophies. At spurs we can maybe offer b for some positions and d in cases where the clubs we are up against are in the same boat as us, normal wages, Europa league or below standard, not wanted by top clubs due to lack of quality or if the player really wants to join us. And unfortunately it appears no-one has their heart set on joining spurs this summer, some players only appear keen on departing. I fear another summer of disappointment beckons and don't be shocked to see Chavski or Dortmund sign Bernard and/or Erikson.

Without selling Bale and putting all of the proceeds back into player purchases I don't see how we expect to compete for any big name signing when compared to the clubs with money that also offer CL.

I often think it is agents trying to stir up activity and lazy media looking for an easy story. yeah we'd like them all but let's get realistic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree 100% with you. Our fans need to be more realistic, our signings will simply not be top world class players this season because we can't attract them unless we sell our prize asset and even then what kind of message does that send out? Do we want to be a new Arse-nal for foreign teams?

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe because we're the 11th richest club in the world even without CL football? Levy has convinced you that we are poor.

Sure we cannot go head to head with the Chavski's and Man City's of the world, but we're pretty similar to Borussia Dortmund and Schalke. Roma, Sevilla, Valencia - none of those are even in the top 20.

So we can't go for the big well known much talked about names that are generating huge amounts of interest, but there are plenty of big talents outside of that list.

12/13 : -£5m
11/12 : +£30m
10/11 : -£20m
09/10 : -£8m
(values taken from transfermrkt. co. uk)

So over the last 4 years our net transfer spend is -£3m. And sure money is being piled away for the project, but we don't need to sell Bale to buy some more players!
