I would be a bit concerned about paying big money for Damiao. Why are ManU/Chelsea/City/Arsenal/Monaco/PSG not chasing him? Remember we were the only ones in for Bentley also. I am not sure our Scouts/ Talent Spotters are on a par with some of the other Clubs.

Our scouts, if we have any, spend their time watching what everyone else does, then panicking when someone realises they should be working!

We where also the only ones in for lloris.
Us and gooners where only ones in for Verts.
We where the only ones in for dembele.
It always works both ways.
We also got in for bale/modric before anyone else.

That is why we have Baldini coming in I think (at least we assume he is on his way).

Didn't we lose our chief scout to Newcastle a few years ago?

Yes we did Wulf. It was Graham Carr. He has been our scout twice. He left us for the barcodes early 2010. He was responsible for bringing Tiote, Cisse, Ben Arfa and Cabaye to Newcastle. He is also the father of Alan Carr the comedian.

why don't we sign Luke Shaw from Southampton as a replacement for assou ekotto at left back, we got Bale from there as a left back and look where he is now, if we could do the same with him it will be a good signing and a good investment for the future, surely he would be tempted see how well Bale developed, also with Rose coming back we have decent cover.

Also I see Tom Ince is being linked with Crystal Palace, just buy him he is quality and another star in the making a great winger who can deliver a ball and score, I reckon even now he is better than Lennon and would surely strengthen the team,

Finally I see that Demba Ba may be surplus to things at Chelsea pair him up with Benteke and we will have a strike force 200 times better than we have at the moment, when he is happy at a club he is prolific at scoring and think the team spirit and nature of TH will suit him down to the ground.

Only my thoughts, would be interested what the rest of you think. Ed any interest in this lot?

I don't know Luke Shaw's game that well, but he is attracting a fair bit of attention and is probably worth a punt if Ekotto is going (as seems probable). In the short run, however, he would probably have to play second fiddle to Rose - is that what he wants?

As for Tom Ince, it worries me that he was dumped out of Liverpool. It suggests there may be some attitude problems to be ironed out. In the meantime, I am concerned that you think he is already better than Lennon. In the first half of the season (before he started picking up injuries) Lennon was playing the best and most consistent football of his career and was our star player (yes, he was better than Bale at that time). I wouldn't hurry to replace Lennon with a still unproven player.

The problem with signing both Ba and Benteke is that both like to lead the line and both will want to be first choice in that position. As we generally favour the loan striker one or other could very quickly get disillusioned.

Still, your proposals are much better than just doing nothing (which is what we all fear will happen).

Atleast these are some realistic signings. People will always wish for the likes of higuian, Dzeko etc (myself included) but let's be real for a moment. We need to be focused on players who will see us as a "stepping stone" and hopefully push on to meet the ambitions of these players. Add Eriksen to that list and I'd be one happy fan.
Although maybe swap Higuian for Ba lol.

Over the last few years I have found myself annoyed with this site and one poster in particular (im sure you all know who I'm referring to). I got so cheesed off that I stopped visiting for a while. I started visiting a few weeks ago and started posting again not long after as its obvious that things have changed. It's so refreshing to see peoples different opinions, information sharing and sensible debate without resorting to the playground nonsense that 'he' insights. This site is once again a pleasure to use and just in time for the most interesting and busy period.

I would alao like to say a big Well done to all the Eds (especially the regular ones) for a job well done. Without your efforts we wouldn't have this site. Thanks guys (girls?)
