Maybe put a 3 million bid in for loic remy & give them Parker as well, would be a good player to have on the bench or possibly start him. obviously pending the court case.

He didn't do that bad in a short spell at QPR.

Wouldn't actually mind seeing a front 3 of: Bale (Striker) Chadil. would allow Both outside men to interchange throughout a game. At 8M leaves cash in the pocket to splash on that (Striker)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Talking of strikers. All this talk of £25million for benteke. If we are going to spen that much, then it's Jackson Martinez for me.
He would be a beast in the premiership and would be a major upgrade on ade.
Benteke or Martinez? No contest in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martinez for under 30M is better then Benteke for anything over 20M

Agree0 Disagree0

Martinez has only had one good season also, and this is in the Portuguese league (rubbish). Before this he had a record of something stupid like 4 goals in 3 seasons. So how can you say he is a better option than Benteke!

Cornish Spur

Agree0 Disagree0

His record is virtually a goal every other game what u on about 3 goals in 4 seasons

All this talk about Benteke being over priced is right, but while Arsenal still haven't secured Higunan, I think we should put a bid in for him. £22m is money well spent, better value than Benteke at £25m+. Also put in a bid for team mate Coentrao which would solve our left back problems. Maybe £30m could secure both, and with Huddlestone, Parker, Adebayor, Assou-Ekotto, Gomes, Rose all linked with moves away this would generate funds coming in. Also with Gallas and Bentley being released wages are freed up to make these players good offers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In principle I love this idea, I think Higuain would be perfect for us. But I don't think he'd come to because we have no CL football plus I think Madrid would play hard ball over Bale and try and tie him into any deal.

Mentioned it further down but I think Michu could be a good cheaper alternative to the £20m + strikers that we are linked to?
d00gie

Agree0 Disagree0

Benteke for me, he would score much more than donkey Higuain.

Agree0 Disagree0

Higuain a. Donkey lol! Yet again check his stats against benteke's then tell us which one the donkey is!

For all of you who think Benteke is a nice guy & a good signing: for £25m you get this:
"I hope to stay at Villa for many years, and I'm looking forward to working under the new manager, whoever that is, as soon as possible, " he concluded. "I hope to achieve great things at this football club, but with this current crop of no-hopers holding me back, that's just not going to happen. "

That's what the guy thinks of his team-mates. Then after next season he'll want to join Real Madrid & he'll do the same to you! Enjoy!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For £25million, you can keep him.
Is this not the same guy who went on strike at his last club to force a move to villa? Same thing may well happen again now.
I get the feeling he may be more trouble than even adebayor. I don't want him at my club.

Agree0 Disagree0

So who cares if he wants to leave after a year, we'll make a tidy profit and get a better striker to replace him. It's funny how all Villa fans have turnt on him all of a sudden when 2 days ago he was your shinning light. No wonder he has no loyalty towards villa with the loyalty the fans show him.

Agree0 Disagree0

How would we make a profit on £25mill?? Unless he turns out to be the new messi lol! Look at all. The strikers up for sale most are in the £20-25 mill bracket.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pay £25m and then sell on for £35m, not a bad deal. Deep in your brains you know that he is a future star in world football. This type of striker will always command huge transfer fees and in a few years Spuds will only be be able to say that he once played for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa fan, your right that is a good deal I agree. But correct me if I'm wrong, but if it plays out like you say and he goes onto be a big star. Then won't you be in the same position (saying he once played for us) you do realise your comment insults both of our teams?

Anyone reckon Michu is worth a punt? He reminds me a little bit of Berba, I thought he looked class last season.
d00gie

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No will be a one season wonder although is a good player won't have season like that again unlike benteke who is class

Agree0 Disagree0

Both had great seasons, for me Michu looked a more finished article, technically better but lacks the power and strength Benteke has.

I have no idea what it would take to get Michu £10-12m maybe? He might represent better value than £25m+ for Benteke
d00gie

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to say, I'm with d00gie on this one. I'd rather take Michu, keep defoe and use the extra money instead of going for Benteke on someone else, and bring through Coulibaly. For me Michu does present a larger gamble, talent wise, but cost wise, nowhere near as much. That coupled with how well Michu played in a team that ha a similar playing style to spurs as opposed to Villa, I really think it could be a wise choice.

Reports on a couple of sites suggesting that the double deal for the two Croatian kids (Halilovic, Jedvaj) is on the verge of collapsing, due in the main to the demands of Halilovic and his family (house, bigger wages etc).

Seems like the normal Spurs transfer window is resuming service. That said, the Belgian winger, Nacer Chadli is rumoured to be in talks with us. (More rumours. !)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The Halilovic deal is still on, it's certain crap sites making up stories about him demanding a house and over 1m a year. Expect him to sign.

Hi all,

After reading a lot of negativity on here over the last few weeks, I thought I would look at this logically. How do Spurs normally do business in the transfer windows? Wait until the last few days then rush through with panic buys, that, fortunately haven't hurt us too much. Now, this year, we're 10 days into the transfer window, 7 weeks left and we've already signed a world class midfielder. I, personally, think that Baldini and AVB will for a great partnership if targets are aquired within a couple of weeks of them being identified.

Now, we all know we need a striker or 2 and possible a couple of other positions as well, but who is available for them and who do we want. Here's my thoughts anyway

LB - With Manchester United seemingly going to sign Baines, we could go for either Buttner or Evra, both which would be an upgrade on what we have and both, I feel would be willing to move being a world cup year. We also have to look at somebody will real potential to learn from an experienced player to be our LB for years to come, may I suggest Luke Shaw of Southampton? If we were to get Evra/Buttner and Shaw, I think we would be looking at around £17m total expense (don't ask me how I worked it out, just go with it. )

CB - We need another. Gallas has gone, Kaboul still struggling, Caulker is getting there, but we need someone. Agger? Skrtel? Jagielka? Hangerland? (could even throw THudd in to sweeten the deal). Anyone of these, I feel would be an excellent addition, and for maybe £12m?

LM - I definitely think we need somebody here. Sig is obvious cover, and with a 3 midfield partnership of Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho, I think we need somebody with that bit more pace and quality to push these? Shaun Wright Phillips? Or push through Townsend more. He showed glimpses of what he is capable of. ? But SWP should be available for very little, maybe £3 or 4m?

RM - Lennon needs competition. McManaman from Wigan possibly? Nani? I think £11m possibly could cover this and would give us a different option.

CF - This is what we have all dreamt of for years. We need 2. Let's not beat about the bush here. I think Coubilaly should be given some time now, as he is a quality player and much much better than Kane, and sign 2 players to make a front 3 with Bale. Higuian hasn't gone to the gooners yet, so he could be viable? Is Hernandez going to want to play second fiddle to Rooney, Welbeck and RVP again coming up to the world cup? Especially with United looking at Lewandowski. Or Angel Di Maria, he seems to be surplus to requirements at Real, however, they might not wanna play ball after the Bale saga. Then there's Damiao who I believe we're leaving along now. Potentially Demba Ba or the link to Benteke won't go away. That's going to be £35-40m to fill 2 strikers right there. But any pair of these I believe will strengthen us greatly.

Dom, you're mental! you might say? We can't afford all of those. Well, they are guestimates, and Levy is a shrewd business man (so possibly loans) however, let's have a little think and let me do my Carol Voderman impression:

That's a potential £80m outlay for high quality players that can take us to the next level, no doubt. Let's do the maths:

Defoe - £8m
Adebayor - £5m
Modric - £30m
Thudd - £6m
BAE - £3m
Rose - £5m
Gomes - £2m
Parker - £2m
Dempsey - £5m
------------------
£66m

So now we're looking at £14m outlay + £17m for Paulinho, £31m. Take in to consideration player profits over the last few seasons too (Berba being a prime example) Then I think that it is very much acheivable. Especially considering evern without that, we only need another £14m outlay to make us into a title challenging side with great stength in depth.

Thoughts would be great if you've managed to read it all.

Cheers,

Dom

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This is complete BS! We don't need 2 LB's, only one, I would say luke shaw but he is about to sign a new long term contract or tryamd compete to get baines

Hangerland is a no go, he is officially past it, would prefer to see if lescott will leave on the cheap if not then perhaps alderweireld

I think with all the CM departures (parker, huddlestone and hopefully livermore) we should bring in someone young who can be back up alongside carroll to dembele paulinho and sandro, perhaps a jem karacan as someone on the rumour page said

Now LM, SWP please tell me this is a joke. Apparently were close to signing nacer chalidi according to some papers who I think would be a good signing

I like the idea of mcmanaman but nani = what are you thinking mate, he's got talent but he's an absolute P****!

I also feel we could do with a creative mid if holtby but itis not a neceesatity, christian eriksen is the obvious choice

Now the famous CF scenario, spurs need at least 2 strikers but if defoe leaves we need 3, my personal choice would be one of soldado or negredo, with either benteke or jackson martinez, and if defoe leaves then pick remy up on the cheap depending on his legal case obviously
----------------------------
Spurs should get rid of
- thudd
-parker
-ade
-BAE
-Livermore
-dempsey
-defoe
-gomes

Oh and how can you put modric down as a £30mil income when we sold him last year and spent the money on dembele (£15mil) lloris (£12mil)and dempsey (£6mil)

Also i'm not saying spurs should sign everyone and that all posistions need players i'm just saying if we had the option to upgradein certain areas these are possiblities

Agree0 Disagree0

By the sounds of it the above readers wants to get rid of all our striker when we are struggling to get 1 in. Great idea. I'd keep em all and buy 1 quality it's a long season with injuries
Out
Livermore
Bae
Gomes
Townsend
Rose
Hudd
Poss replace Lennon who can't play in a 433
The above can bring us 30mil in add another 15 if we can get someone better then Lennon in
Me g

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely rubbish on the original poster and for the 2nd poster were still owed two thirds of not more from the modric deal!

Agree0 Disagree0

It was just my own speculation and ideas. as for players out, we also sold Kranjcar, Van Der Vaart, Bassong, Crouch, Palacios, Corluka and PAvlyuchenko over the last couple of years, so there's money from them too.

This is why people come here from other teams, because when somebody says something that you don't agree with, instead of constructing a well thought out and maybe even diplomatic response, you just start to have a go. It's embarrassing.

But remember, not all sale money goes to transfers!

We have a stadium to build, remember!

So, Villa has gone to A. Madrid, Higuain who knows, Damiao seems dead and gone, Soldado wants to stay at Valencia, Negrado on the way to cithee, it now appears that Benteke is the only viable option, however with Aston Villa alledgely stating they would rather deal with the Chavs instead of playing Levys cash/boardroom games, maybe its time to change our veiw and tactics and either put the cash up Villa want although IMO Benteke isn't worth the prices being banded about or look elsewhere. Maybe a punt on Loic Remy, I not entirely sure about him either but options seem to be running thin on the ground.

In a 4-3-3 system does anybody think that the front 3 might end up being Lennon, Bale and another wing type player with bale playing up top? might explain our lack of activity in signing a striker, just a thought {Ed008's Note - Remy is an option but he has that pending court case that's why I don't think a club will bid for him..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Any activity on Jovetic b anybody?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, I'm sure the court case will be thrown out? {Ed008's Note - I'm not too sure its a serious case never know..

Christian Benteke being lined up in a mega deal with none other than Jermaine Defoe. Apparently Levy has offered £12m + Defoe, and Villa have laughed it away.

Not convinced this is the best tactic on this occasion, either agree he is good and buy him for £20m or don't. We can always sell Defoe for £8m, even at his age.

I for one think this will be a big mistake, as Benteke is massively over-rated in my opinion. However, it is not a deal that you can teeter around the edges upon.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

£20mil plus dempsey? Just a thought, they were extremely intrested in him last summer and even hada feeagreed with fulham but it was dempsey who refused to go

As a Villa fan I'm curious to know what Spurs fans think about Benteke several times last season right after joining us claiming he loved Arsenal, supported them and dreamed of one day playing for them? Do you really want a player that has publicly courted your biggest rivals? It will be blatantly clear it is just a matter of greed if he joins you as he cannot claim the lure of Champions league action has took him to White Hart Lane. I understand you may well finish top four next season but its not guaranteed. We do not need to sell him so you will have to pay 25 mil+ on a player who has had one good season with no injuries, no competition for places in a very ordinary team. He is also terrible in defence, yes I know he is a striker but we let in so many goals from set plays last season because he lost his man & up against bigger, stronger centre halfs he struggles. Seems a very exspensive gamble but i'd take a 23 mil profit gladly. Good luck next season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hmmmm interesting, sounds like you don't want the man, good job we do then. I think european football this season and possible champs league next with him being a definite starter for us will give us a chance of signing him. You say he had no competition last year but didn't he muscle out bent who was highly rated at one stage. Sounds like desperation your post does. I will be honest though I don't care if we sign him or not as I know we will get 1 poss 2 strikers established strikers perhaps without the potential but proven goalscorers or just one and benteke

derbyshire dave

Agree0 Disagree0

The only thing Benteke lacks is work rate and I think Leandro Damiao has that. Purely down to that reason I would rather spend the money on Damiao who will also have a point to prove if he wants to play in brazil next year. would probably be the cheaper option too.

Gabriel.

I've been looking on this page for over a year now, only posting once or twice but I thought we spurs fans were known for being optimistic? Then why are we complaining about every player we're linked with? Yeah Benteke has only had one season in the prem and £25m might be a bit much for him, But why don't we look at him as a brilliant young player with potential to become a world class striker, he's already proven he can perform at the top level in the best league in the world with a team in a relegation struggle, so what's the chances he'll be a flop with bale, dembele, paulinho and many others supporting him, Very slim. So c'mon AVB, Baldini and Levy, bring the cash to the table before he's snapped up by a team like arsenal!
