I in previous post stated Martinez on his way to spurs Lennon on way to Everton, this was from relatives in Finchley apparently itk, however weighing it up this could still happen, but the silence from club, rumour mill and media, de boer trying to sell his stall suggests levy playing this one very close to his chest, which suggests it is big and the rabbit out of the hat unnamed at the moment however, Madrid did us no favours last year taking bale previously Modric prior to that how ironic that if they loose tonight and sack Anchellotti they could hand us a manager with real pedigree, Mr levy could end up been a hero Monday thanks to real Madrid . Someone stated in previous post, Van gal or Anchellotti at Man untd and spurs final piece if jigsaw might fall into place and what insight he had .

Unless Ancelotti decides to quit while he's ahead then no chance now!
I would love the Martinez rumour to come true but just can't see it. He doesn't seem like the sort to walk after a year unless Everton were getting a pretty-penny out if it and wanted him to, not a very Levy-like scenario.

I love your contrarian views but seriously this whole article is madness.

We all love Spurs dearly but if we are honest the deals for Modric and Bale were fantastic for everyone involved. It allowed Real Madrid to fulfill their master plan and win the Champions League, it gave Bale and Modric the medals they would never have achieved at Spurs and it gave us an astronomical amount of money which has just been bumped by another £20m after last nights win.

I hope you are right about Martinez as he has fantastic positive energy the we need. I hope we also sell Lennon who I think has been very mediocre. However, give Levy some credit he has been brilliant in the transfer market, albeit if he has been like Genkis Khan with his managerial relationships.

A positive managerial appointment
A few positive transfers and exchanges
A positive crowd behind the team
= Champions League next season
Come On You Spurs!

Oracle, hypocrite.

For once oracle I agree

26 May 2014 02:51:57
For a start he means bobbybox means Neil Lennon surely, and oracle you've just said that it was a load of rubbish but then agreed about how Martinez would be a good manager?

Rosscocee I think you need to read the post again. Ancellotti to Spurs and Levy deals for Modric and Bale bad for the club.

Levy got £85,300,000 for Bale and £33,100,000 for Modric, and added Chsmpions League 3 year windfall payments of £15m & £5m respectively. £136,400,000 for two players is great business.

I accept Baldin has done his level best to waste this fortune, but very few can hold their hand on heart and say it didn't benefit players and clubs alike. There is no way Spurs would have won the Premiership let alone the Champions League with all the new additions like Vertonghen, Lloris, Dembele, Soldado, Lamela, Sigurdsson, Adebayor, Holtby, Chiriches, Paulinho, Capoue, Chadli and Eriksen and we get back Bale, Modric, Caulker, Dempsey, Huddlestone, Parker, Jenas, Bentley, Van Der Vaart, Corluka, Krancjar, Pienaar, Bassong, Saha and Cudicini.

I think Bale and Modric are world class players, and surely deserved to win the big one. Wales and Croatia are hardly likely to win anything, and the Champions League medals are therefore the pinnacle of their dreams. I think memories are short and we forget the mediocrity that surrounded these two stars. Only Van Der Vaart operated at their level, but even that was for 60% of a match at best.

Be happy they achieved the very best, and be sure that we can bounce back with a few clever deals. Baldini has a chance to redeem himself in this window, so let's give him and Levy a chance.

For the record I think Martinez is as likely as Ronaldo joining Spurs on a free transfer, and I was merely stating we need positivity. I would hate to see a miserable uninspiring manager like Moyes join the club.

The one thing the club will need is positive committed fans, so let's be United and get behind whoever takes the helm.

But not long ago Oracle you were singing the praises of LVG and the fact we had needed a club overall for decades.

Can you explain your more tempered view now?

26 May 2014 13:54:00
I think LVG is absolutely brilliant, and certain that he will put Manchester United back on the map.

Equally it was hardly a secret that we tried everything to secure him, and he seemingly just wanted our offer to improve his own terms.

Manchester United are a bigger club, and have pledged him a massive war chest. Perhaps LVG merely did what most would do in the same luxurious position.

This created the void we have at the moment, as Levy thought he had his man. Remember Moyes was still live at the time we had finalised our offer!

Anyway let's see what Lady Luck brings. I hope Pochettino is not another flash in the pan.

I only posted what I heard was really hoping for Martinez when I heard it , then the rumour came along about anchelloti which would have been awesome with regards to bale and modric sales did not want them to leave , but understand the maths and if they don't want to be at spurs then sell them anyway levy did awesome business for the pair and fare play to him Tottenham the club is more important than anyone player , and with regards to the new manager have no idea as do us all untill he is named . My choice now is de boer

26 May 2014 17:14:44
Oh I get the LVG part Oracle.

What I don't get is how we went from in your view a decades needed club overhaul to a few positive transfers and exchanges.

How did not getting LVG result in your more tempered position on the squad?

Where did this ridiculous rumour of Martinez to Spurs start? Do any of you guys believe that this is even a possibility? With all the respect in the world, if he does leave us then it will be to a bigger club than yourselves, probably to a team in the champions league. But that will be a few seasons away. Levy needs to give your next manager some time to do the job properly without fear of the sack within their first season if things aren't going well. Some of the names you have posted are a bit ambitious don't you think? Probably end up with Southampton manager realistically but, one thing is certain, it won't be our bobby brown shoes :)

Yellow-card you seem such a nice guy but seem to always miss the point. WE HAVE BEEN MEDIOCRE for decades was the point, and Levy has taken is to a place where we need a quality manager to finish the journey.

That's it!

27 May 2014 11:42:30
So finishing 4th and needing a just 2 or 3 good signings in the right positions to push on was mediocre for a team with the 6th largest payroll and one of the smallest stadiums.

No Oracle we didn't need an overhaul and we were within reach of the top but our inability for whatever reasons over the last 2 or 3 seasons to push on has seen us slip back.

Now the big question is why did we not push on, were the finances not available or did Levy not have the courage to take the business risk. I believe Harry wasn't exactly the man to push on with for many reasons - but our recent 2 steps backwards looks an awful lot like issues at the very top and wrong decisions of late.

So once again Oracle why did the team need an overhaul with LVG and only a few transfers and exchanges without him?

29 May 2014 20:27:34
Yellow-Card you seem to have a very biased and deluded picture of our success. let's look at the year we finished 4th, and remind ourselves of how it happened.

2009/10 was the perfect storm for Tottenham. Our defence included the brilliant Ledley King and Woodgate with Bassong, Dawson and Kaboul as back up. We had just signed Walker, Rose and Naughton as back up for Corluka and Assou-Ekotto. Our midfield included none other than Bale, Modric, Lennon and players like Huddlestone, Palacios, Bentley, Krancjar and dare I say it Jenas. Lastly we had Defoe inhis finest year with Crouch, Gudjohnson and Pavlyuchenko as back up.

More importantly the Premierhsip was at its weakest in history. Teams like Burnley, Portsmouth, Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves, Sunderland & Fulham have all been relegated since. Add to them West Ham, Hull, Villa & Stoke and you were in 6th position before you started.

We finished above Man City as you know on the last day, but please allow your memory to remember their side. No Aguerro, Negredo, Yaya Toure etc. Their top goal scorers in order were Tevez, Adebayor, Bellamy, Wright Phillips, Petrov, santa Cruz, Barry, Ireland, Richards and Lescott all no longer in the team proper.

Everton and Liverpool were the only other teams of pedigree, and they had shadows of the squads they have today. Liverpool had a misfiring Torres, Kuyt, Benayoun, N'Gog, Babel, Insua & Mascherano in their goal scoring tally.

In summary a really weak Premiership league with superstars in our squad and no chance of anything other than top 4 or 5. Even Aston Villa finished 6 points behind us for Hells sake, so try to get off the Harry Redcrap bandwagon and start being realistic.

You say we were 2 or 3 short of glory, well I say utter nonsense. Kind and Woodgate were finished so there was 2 to start with. Gomes was clearly a liability in goal so we have 3. BAE and Rose have proven to be hellish so that is 4. Huddlestone was sold for £5m so hardly the player we needed so make that 5. Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Crouch and Gudjohnsson were never Champions League level and so add 2 strikers to that list making it 7. Then we are left with the brilliant Modric & Bale, with LM and RM to fill. Lennon was never top draw and consistent enough but you can have him if you like and LM was never replaced.

So in final summary, we were fortunate to be playing weak competition with 2 world class stars carrying the squad, and certainly far from the 2 or 3 player tweaking that you allude to.

I love Spurs but seriously be balanced.

Lmao, Give up yellow-card he doesn't get it.

29 May 2014 21:34:39
Fair break down of the year we finished 4th. But for 2 seasons with Harry, a person I do not nor have ever been in favor of as I stated above, we may have made progress with a couple of astute additions and I don't mean Nelson and Saha . in my opinion that was missed opportunity that did not take an overhaul.

I supported the bringing in of AVB and don't believe he got a fair chance, but when you have a break down in relationship with Levy it's not going to end well. We will never know what he might have achieved given time.

I hope MoPo gets the time he needs.

You will also note Oracle that you have still not actually answered the question I asked, but I can't be bothered to ask again and wait for you assert your manhood on the internet and avoid addressing the question.

30 May 2014 08:03:31
To answer your question the reason we have failed to push on is Baldini wasted £150m since his arrival. Only Eriksen who wasn't even that expensive has done well.

When we literally sold the Crown Jewels, we were left needing to make sensible acquisitions. Risk management was clearly never a consideration, as we brought unproven players for fortunes.

To be fair to you Yellow-Card, I think we would have struggled to do any worse than Baldini. We missed out quibbling over £3m and lost Suarez to Liverpool, and then spent £26m on Soldado who is rapidly approaching 30.

Lukaku, Javi Hernandez, Jackson Martinez, Hummels, Coentrao all slipped through our fingers.

Let's hope Pochettino can pull off the master plan and make a few brilliant exchanges and acquisitions. Perhaps Lamela will finally repay the faith we invested in him now he has a compatriot managing him.

I am fairly sure we have great players in Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro, Dembele and Eriksen. The team can soon turn with one or two quality additions. Add Lovren and Lallana for example and assume Lamela funds his feet and add Lukaku and we look half decent.

Remember Carroll, Livermore, Holtby, BAE are all returning. So we have option to sell and exchange a few and spend a few million on top.
