Hi Eds, any chance of us snatching Higuain from Arse? I reckon he'd be just as happy playing for us as them, and he's in the top 5 strikers in Europe IMO, so would be worth the money?

Josh {Ed008's Note - No he's off to Arsenal more or less..

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Dont worry most players that come from Real Madrid don't do that well. Real Madrid must be selling for a reason. They rarely end up been better once they move. I am glad spurs haven't signed him, there's better out there

Van der vart came from r/madrid he wasn't bad

Agree10 Disagree2

Who's out there better than higuain that we could sign, honestly? let's not act like he's not all that just because he could be going to Arse. We all know we can't get better than him, so why not go all out to try and snatch him? Negredo, soldado, damiao. They're not in his class really. Joe Lewis has the money. Imagine how much of a two fingers to arse that would be. It won't happen, but don't you just wish?

Josh

Reminds me of gudjonnson, s****

Unless there contract is up or they get offered ridiculous money, anyone not in that category their career is normally in decline meaning they are not as good as when they are at real madrid. Same with Man u, when rooney moves I doubt he will be as good as he was when he was at man u when he was at his peak.

Agree4 Disagree2

Rufus, this guy would Shine in arsenal or tottenham system. I'll be gutted if they sign him.

Gabriel.

Agree4 Disagree3

He is slow and unbelieavably overrated. Would he a total waste of money.

Agree7 Disagree7

I hate to say it, but you're all being ridiculous. Either you haven't seen him play, or you're just bitter because he looks like he's going to Arse. It's one thing to hate arse, but surely it's a bit odd of us of we convince ourselves someone is crap just because he's going to Arse? Like cazorla, I wanted him at spurs before he went there, but I can still recognise how good he is. And Juan Mata, I can still see that minus Bale, he's better than any player we have even though he's now a chav. How can you have a proper opinion about anything when you're so biased? It's like you're kids in a classroom arguing with your Arsenak mates both thinking every player in every position in your club is better because you support them. We're adults, and knowing football is always as important as who you support, otherwise you're just a blind man cheering a show.

Josh

Agree14 Disagree6

Well said Josh

Agree5 Disagree3

Slow? You obviously haven't seen him. It's funny when people try to make a point when they haven't really seen much of the player.

Gabriel.

Agree5 Disagree2

I rate soldado as highly

Agree8 Disagree3

I am totally amazed how anyone can possibly not rate Gonzalo Higuain, and I totally agree with Gabriel.

Many people have cited Higuain as clumber some and slow, which is very strange as he can run the 100m in 10. 49 seconds. I cannot think of a single player in the world outside Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo, with a more impressive dribbling & finishing skills. He has a fantastic vision for spotting key passes, canhd the ball up well, and unlike many strikers he can tackle. His only weaknesses would be straying offside too much, and is not as effective in aerial battles.

He has consistently been a top goal scorer, even bagging goals when having to play a role as a substitute. He has more assists as well as his goals, and I would suggest only a fool would doubt his all round ability.

At £20m and 25 years old, he represents ridiculous value. People talk about Cavani at £50m, when I know who I would prefer all day long.

As a loyal Spurs fan I have to say that I have been surprised that Arsenal have maintained their lead over Spurs in the league, as hand on heart I feel we have had a far more superior team. However, anyone thinking that Higuain is average is going to have a shock, and if Wenger buys Cesar, Fellaini, Higuain & Rooney we will find it very difficult to hang onto their coat tails.

Please tell me that these transfer are not going to happen ED, as I am worried the Gooners are emerging from the dust of their new stadium costs.

Agree7 Disagree3

Well said josh, but higuan's father has said that both arsenal and juventus are in for him and knowing arsenal I doubt they can offer a better wage package than juventus.

Agree6 Disagree2

I'd rather throw 20 mill at Swansea for michu.

Rufus

Higs father has said nothing has been completed yet but arse are very close to landing him.

Agree3 Disagree1

Sorry Rufus but no way Michu worth 20 million, that would be a panic buy!

Agree9 Disagree1

Whoever said Higuain can run 100m in tgat time is demented, he would struggle to run ot in 13secs. You obviously haven't seem him play, he is slow. Josh when spurs were linked with him I said the same, I just don't rate him and he will be a flop you watch.

Agree4 Disagree5

30m for Benteke, 20m for Michu. I'd be calling for Levy and AVB to be removed. Thankfully I think they are both wiser than that.

Agree2 Disagree3

Nah, a panic buy was rasiak and pav. Michu however has proven himself in the prem and against the top sides, I'm pretty sure he's early twenties too, given all that what price would you put on him Davo?

Rufus

Agree1 Disagree5

I may be wrong but Michu and Benteke are both only "proven" one season. Upgrading Dempsey to Michu would be a good decision, but I think we could address more with 20m.

Agree4 Disagree1

Michu is like 27-28. I think he's a decent enough striker but not worth 20mil! I don't think he's worth 10! I think benteke is worth about 10 mill. Problem is, over the years Chelsea, city and united and a couple of other clubs in Europe have started throwing stupid amounts of cash around. Everything has just become inflated.

I cannot understand how you can rate Michu in the same bracket as Higuain. I actually like Michu myself and think he is a great little player, but comparing him with the proven ability of Higuain is surprising.

Here are some statistics for your to consider, when comparing with Michu

2012/13 - Higuain played 1744 minutes which is equivalent to 19. 4 games. He scored 16 goals and had 5 additional assists. Contributing 21 goals from 19 games is absolutely amazing.

2011/12 - Higuain played 1712 minutes which is equivalent to 19. 0 games. He scored 22 goals and had 9 additional assists. This 31 goals contributed from 19 games is only surmounted by the likes of the brilliant Lionel Messi.

2010/11 - Higuain played 1300 minutes which is equivalent to 14. 4 games. He scored 10 goals and had 6 additional assists. Once again more than a goal a game to minute on the pitch.

2009/10 - Higuain played 2383 minutes which is equivalent to 26. 5 games. He scored 27 goals and had 7 additional assists. Yet again more than a goal per game ratio.

2008/09 - Higuain played 2640 minutes which is equivalent to 29. 3 games. He scored 22 goals and had 12 additional assists. 34 goals yet again from 29 games and you guessed it over the 1:1 goals to games ratio.

2007/08 - Higuain played 888 minutes which is equivalent to 9. 9 games. He scored 8 goals and had 3 additional assists. 11 goals from 10 games and AGED 19!

Just to give you Michu's record by comparison.

2012/13 - Michu at Swansea scored 18 goals with 3 further assists from 33. 3 games last season. Impressive but well short of Higuain.

2011/12 - Michu & Rayo Vallecano scored 15 goals with 4 further assists from 36. 5 games last season. Not bad at all but short of Higuain by a mile.

2010/11 - 6 goals from 19. 4 games, at age 25 hardly that impressive.

2009/10 - 6 goals from 18. 9 games blow average once again @ 24 years old.

2008/09 - A pathetic 1 goal from 18. 4 games, is Didier Zokora territory.

2007/08 - 1 goal again from 12. 7 games is really weak.

Michu has had a purple patch and looked half decent for Swansea this season, and has been man of the match 6 times, but comparing him to the most consistent striker in European football is a little far fetched.

Face it guys Higuain is a fantastic player and anyone who knows about football will not want him in the oppositions team sheet.

Agree9 Disagree3

Rufus, is Higuin is 20/25 million then Michu might fetch 15 mill! I not sure he is physically strong enough!

Agree2 Disagree4

Rufus, PAV was never a panic buy. He was supposed to replace Berbatov but never lived up to his expectations. Many comments were made when we signed him such as "I'm surprised Tottenham didn't have more competition for his signature" unfortunately he was a flop.

Agree1 Disagree2

Higuan plays for R Madrid and therefore gets plenty of chances so comparing him with Michu at Swansea is ridiculous. I would rather have Michu he is better.

Agree3 Disagree4

I'm not on here to have a go guys but I just don't see it with higuain, why spend 25 mill on a player with no prem experience? U could gamble but what's the point when benteke or michu could be cheaper? Both having prem experience, I really think with players from the "glamour" sides you pay more because of their name.

Rufus

Agree0 Disagree4

Rufus, respect the thoughts behind your post but you need to consider that before last season Benteke and Michu had no Epl experience (to my knowledge) and they didn't turn out to bad.

Agree3 Disagree0

But what did they cost? 2 mill?

Rufus

Agree1 Disagree3

Question to the stats guy above - I like how you are bringing evidence into this so much respect for you there. My question is how many of those goals were either important* or against a top 6 team? By important I mean a first goal, a winning goal, or an equalising goal.

The difficulty of stats in the Spanish league is that the quality of the lower teams is pretty poor. That means that the top teams regularly batter them, and players for those top teams pick up a lot of auxiliary goals - by that I mean if you are cruising to a 2-0 win and then pick up a couple late goals to win 4-0 as the other side have given up.

If he is coming on a lot in the last 20 minutes to tired and defeated lower league teams and picking up a lot of late goals that don't make much of a difference then his stats are not as impressive as they look. However if those goals are coming a lot against the top teams and he is getting openers and winners then they are very impressive.

Hope that makes sense!

Agree0 Disagree2

Higuain has shown enough quality over a few years to see he is a top player. ANY foreign recruit has some adjusting to do in the Premier League but, with the pedigree of Real Madrid and World Cup experience then it is far more calculated gamble than an African or South American yet to leave their own shores.
The fact is if you offered us Higuain we (should) be absolutely over the moon but we're stuck with rumours about Damaio for 3years, Villa again (now that would be a gamble given injuries and age) and even Benteke at £20m+ which is crazy!
I just don't see how we aren't going all out for Negredo and/or Soldado when they're close to our reputed price bracket, have played European and International football, good goal scoring records and, fit a decent physical profile as well.

Heard anymore news on Bernard ed? do you think this deal will happen? {Ed002's Note - Atletico Mineiro's Bernard rejected opportunities to join Zenit and a Qatar side last summer but there is a lingering thought that he may still move on. Inter went as far offering part ownership of others in exchange for part ownership of Bernard last summer, but again that was refused. However, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow, Terek Grozny and Shakhtar Donetsk have recently approached Atletico Mineiro and whilst a 12M euro offer from Terek was rejected, it looks like a deal could be still be done and perhaps AC Milan will put together a package including a player as part of the deal. Dortmund spoke with Atletico Mineiro about the player but have seemingly dropped their interest deciding the asking price was too high. Whilst he is certainly attracting interest from several sides and a very good offer could tempt them to sell, I suspect Atletico Mineiro and Bernard would prefer to hold off on any move for, say, another year. Chelsea, Manchester City and Roma have been keeping a close eye on his progress, but all seem reluctant to make any move. He was one of the South American players that Liverpool were scouting earlier in 2012, but that was pre-Rodgers and I doubt there is any chance of a move to Anfield. This leaves Benfica and Porto who are the clubs who would look to a deal probably based on part ownership or a significant part of his fee being paid in the future, and Spurs who have had a bid turned down. Whether Spurs pursue their interest remains to be seen.}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Tottenham are in talks with his club as are Porto.

Yep it seems porto is his likely destination

Reports emerging that Isco is joining Madrid.
Does this meant they have a replacement target instead of bale?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Lets hope so!

Agree1 Disagree1

Bale is staying at Spurs. Madrid can go and get suarez but he cost a bomb to field. He will probs eat half of the reserves pre season

Agree8 Disagree3

I believe Isco is the alternative to Silva

Agree1 Disagree1

Isco maybe an alternative to silva but don't you think all 3 play the same sort of role?
Behind the striker, roaming in from the left or right.
Silva, mata and bale play the same role in my opinion for their respective clubs.
So, yes, I think Isco would be an alternative to bale.

Agree4 Disagree0

Di Maria is also likely to leave, so they'll want to replace him.

If it's true about an £8.5m release clause for Tello then definitely worth trying to land him.
Simmo

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Townsend, Falque, Pritchard?? We have many rising wingers simmo.

Gabriel.

Agree1 Disagree4

Not seen Pritchard but ha've seen enough of the other two to see they are good. However they are not in the same league as tello. Coupled with a signing of paulinho and a striker that would make me a very happy boy. Also to add some substance I watch Barcelona as much as I do spurs so I have seen a lot of tello.
Danhors84

Agree0 Disagree0

Tello is a natural striker, but has been playing as a winger at Barca, partly because of his blistering pace but also partly to do with the style of football Barca play. If he has an 8.5m release clause then he would be a good bet up top

Agree1 Disagree0

Dear Gabriel,
Others have said it for me really. I was thinking of him more as an option up-top but the versatility is useful. As far as comparisons go, he is much better than those mentioned already in my opinion. Barcelona (that's Barcelona) have used him more than we've used those three altogether. That's either a measure of how they rate him, how little we rate them or a bit of both.

hey ed was just wondering if this rumour going round that we have met paulinho release clause in his contract is true or not. {Ed002's Note - Agreement has been reached in principle over a transfer fee, but no details have yet been firmed up. There is every probability that the deal will be completed.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

So if I understand correctly Ed; its just the personal terms that have to be agreed? {Ed002's Note - A little more than that.}

Agree1 Disagree2

21 Jun 2013 22:24:32
Daily fail online reports that Corinthians have excepted our £17mill offer for paulinho! let's hope it's true and personal terms can be agreed.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

A great signing but I think Bernard is the one we really need, he has the ability to create havoc and open up defences creating chances against defensive teams. Get Soldado or Villa and we will be title contenders.

Agree6 Disagree1

Reports today that Bernard has been talking to Hulk about Porto, its a bit of a none story but he talks of his admiration for them, Ed's do we have serious interest in Bernard? {Ed002's Note - Atletico Mineiro's Bernard rejected opportunities to join Zenit and a Qatar side last summer but there is a lingering thought that he may still move on. Reports in Portugal that Porto are trying to tie up his signature in the next couple of days. 3rd parties involved so a move to prem not likely.
