As a Liverpool fan I have to say fair play to the Spuds. They have built a good squad and are in a good moment. The problem is making the transition to being a true title challengers is hugely expensive. Reality is as a club they do not generate enough revenue to suddenly give the likes of Bale, Modric, Adebayor, Van De Vaart 100k a week, let alone Eden Hazzard. With fair play coming in the only way to afford these players is to generate more money, ( outside of champions league). They need a new stadium and this itself will restrict spending. Just look at Chelsea and ManUTd, both have cut back on spending because of FairPlay and that is just the start of it.

I feel sorry for you guys to some extent, because your improvement has come at the wrong time to take full advantage. Spend and you will be ejected from European competition, do not spend and the best players will walk. Football is no longer black and white in the financial stakes regardless of how much money the owners have.

Regarding Hazzard, he is publicly hawking himself around and I am sure Spurs will try and sign him, but every other team now knows they are trying to and this gives them plenty of time to weigh up their options.

Haha I advice from a liverpoo fan, as comical as their challenge for top4

"In a good moment"?!

Are you Roberto Mancini?

In all true honesty I take this as a compliment and do agree on most of his points.

We cannot stay where we are as if we become content with simply just challenging for champions league, we WILL fall behind like Arsenal. It only takes a huge investment (again) for Liverpool or Arsenal and we could be looking at 4th/5th next season. But we will need to break the bank for a stadium as well as gamble on big players and up our wage structure which will all cost millions, but then we "could" be challenging for the title.

Spurs are at a cross roads, spend millions and hope we become one of the best teams in England and Europe (but will put us in debt), or invest a little, save millions and hope we do well but being second or third best for a few seasons. But at least we will not be in debt.

In Levy we trust

Naz - I think you are looking at it in far too a negative way. It is not one extreme or the other, we can spend and get a big name/great player without going into debt. The money for transfers is there. We are at a crossroads though regarding the manager and the stadium, and this AEG thing in the press

Agree2 Disagree1

I understand the point you are making in regards to transfers and manger but what I'm talking about is if we want to be up there with madrid and Barcelona, Man utd/City etc then we need a new stadium and that will put us in debt. We can spend 50million on players and have a very good team, but we will also need to build a new stadium at a cost of 100million (estimate) to sustain player wages if we want to "attract" world class players.

I do not mean to sound negative but with what's happening to Rangers, what happened to Leeds, Newcastle etc. I just hope Levy makes the right decision, even if it's not as ambitious as spurs fans want.

We look on the verge of a takeover from AEG,this will lead to huge sponsorships, which will ultimately free up transfer funds for whoever is manager nxt season. That has been the reason behind meagre funds spent in recent windows,we have kept the accounts in top shape for a takeover to go through smoothly. The fact that levy will remain as chairman should this go through, makes the whole prospect of this takeover seem very exciting for spurs fans.Thats why Hazard is coming,he knows the future is tottenham!

Naz -
The last figure I saw for the stadium wa an estimated £450million. Mind you, that's was before the latest news about dropping the £19million cost for "affordable housing". £100million won't buy you nowt nowadays, over than two Fanando Torres'es......

Flippit

Agree4 Disagree2

Lol, wow, 450 million for a stadium! mine was a complete guess but I did not think I would be that wrong! thanks for the correction Flippit, but this does only strengthen my opinion that we will be unable to make the next step up for another 2 or so seasons.

Also Ive heard that the AEG takeover was a misunderstood story. They wanted to team up with tottenham for the olympic stadium bid and not takeover spurs.

Naz

Didn't levy say the stadium wouldn't affect the transfer budget at the last AGM? I think they're trying to fund it through a mixture of conning the government and name sponsorship rights, but I might be wrong

Agree1 Disagree0

Dont believe that,AEG want us!

Ed - have you (or any one else) heard anything about a supposed take over at Spurs by the American AE group who own the O2 and the LA Galaxy?

Flippit. {Ed002's Note - A couple of years ago AEG looked like they were going to take over Spurs. AEG don't actually own the O2 Areana, but just run it. There are some other links between the two with AEG looking to partner Spurs in the Olympic bid. With the club currently delisted, it was thought that investors were being sought and it would not be a surprise if AEG became involved.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I think this would be a great move - as long as they kept levy to run the club. the way they turned around the millenium dome into the O2 was genius, and with the new stadium soon there is the oppurtunity for a lot of new revenue

Agree0 Disagree1

Have just been reading the story in the express about this , and they seem to think this is a close deal?
As stated if levy run it (fantastic job) this could be a great opportunity, with the new stadium (presumably to be called the AEG Arena) the summer transfer stories could well be true, Hazard, Damiao

Oh brilliant a right wing religious fanatic owning our club! If that republican takes over I'm gonna get me a gun & bible to blend with d yokle's yee haw what next Thatcher as kit lady

Espur grow up .....

And AEG have come out and said its all
False ....

So either the papers are just scratching for stories or they are trying to cover everything up for some reason .... I think the former most likely ....
Bear yid

Agree3 Disagree1

Bear It's called humour with a twist of irony.. U can't fault AEG for success in running a business hands down there at the head of there field in what they do. U stand by by description though It's true & if growing up is having a lack of social conscience WOW U GOT ME.. In all honesty I think we should care what kind of charachter owns our club but not to get Hung up on AEG as u say it is just paper talk. Personally I have a fear where English game is going with amount of foreign owned clubs & Longterm there is a risk of teams losing identity.
Maybe I'm to cynical but I don't want us to b owned by someone with no real love for club & sees it as an expansion of there investment interest just look at Arsenal as an example of my concern. The German model of ownership is what I'd like to see implemented in England. A controlling interest in a club from foreign investors can only occur if investor has 20 yr link with club. But as I said mate I was only joking & comment was made in jest & not to b taking to seriously. I'm off now to read a self help book on growing up... peace out brother & remember white pigs must Die

Am i not right in thinking that AEG would deny any involvement in a takeover at spurs due to there sponsorship deals with other clubs ie Man Utd? there must be some sort of interest in a takeover, otherwise Levi wouldnt of taken Spurs off stock market..As for funding our new stadium it will be paid for by stadium branding and the rest will pay for its self through gate reciepts, just like Arsen-hole have done with the Emirates.....i cant see this affecting our transfer budget in any way shape or form, Levi is a very shrewed business man and runs our club to perfection, so funding a new stadium, he wouldnt let it affect anything on the field....
