SS reporting Benteke has handed in transfer request and villa prepared to listen to sensible offers. Has Levy pulled out of the David Villa transfer for this reason?. I hope so, Benteke is young, good finisher, Posses a good arial threat, scored lots of goals in a very poor side, can only get better and score more goals in a decent team. The missing piece to our jigsaw puzzle in my opinion.

Would Defoe want to go to Villa though, it's a goid traditional club but it's in Birmingham! I don't reckon he would. Lambert would probably be wanting someone like Townsend or Carroll instead as they are more of the type he goes for but these swaps hardly ever materialise. {Ed008's Note - Having this discussion myself with fellow Ed's would Defoe move? He does a lot of charity work in London I think Townsend is a possibility maybe Livermore/Huddlestone? Naughton? Played under Lambert at Norwich.

Just seen that bent eke has handed in a transfer request! The question is will levy leave it too late or will he not pay the huge fee.
Villa have said that they will listen to good offers in a timeframe which suits them ie pre season.

If we are failing to sign our targets so far. Perhaps Villa wants to stay in Spain anyway. Maybe levy should or may need to gamble and splash that extra bit what clubs want for their players. Roberto Soldado would be worth getting for example and he is available at a price maybe not up levys street, but he's got adebayor and others to offload elsewhere.

I don't think missing out on villa is all bad if we get either soldado or negredo and tello (as a winger obvs) along with another striker
I know we are only just into the transfer window and i'm sure ill get some stick for this but I can't help but think that we will probably end up with someone like Demba Ba rather than the big name we crave.
This is my thourght process - Our chairman has and will spend big for a defender, a keeper or midfielder but seems content to shop in the bargain basement for strikers. One would have hoped that he'd learnt his lesson here, but offering that low amount to Barca for Villas services suggests otherwise. Aston Villa have no need to sell Benteke, unless silly money is offered and I can't see us offering that. I do see Chelski doing it. I don't know about you, but to me pairing Benteke and Lukaku on last years form is a frightening prospect. But one that also frees up Demba Ba.
Judging by Ba's premier league history (proving he's up to it) and the relatively small fees he's moved for between West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea the only thing missing from Daniel Levy's remit is sell on value. But the next three years increased tv money will ease that.

I think villa wanted to stay in spain so it was always going to be difficult to get him to the lane. it seems we offered more than a/m so I don't think that was the problem. he's desperate to be involved in the Spanish team next year in brazil so seemed to prefer to stay in spain.
shame, as he could have had the same impact as klinsmann for a season or so.

Agreed, seems like people think we are the only team interested in new players and the preferred option. Most teams want new players so no transfer is gaurenteed.
I disagree, it's best to do your deals early so that we can sign our top targets instead of our 3rd or 4th option.

I think not signing Villa is a blessing in disguise for you guys. He's a good player, but he's getting on, had his injuries, and never played outside if Spain. I guess £4.5mill seems a bargain, but the wages would be astronomical I'd have thought, so money surely could be better spent elsewhere.

Baldini seeks targets and enters into discussions sets out financial plan but levy has last say on what price to pay and wages not baldini so levy continues to pull the purse strings and needs to keep to his word and back his manager to take spurs forward
And you know this how? I've heard it's set up differently.

As I said in previous post you have had a few good seasons granted. But a statement was made that Benteke coming to spurs is him going to a bigger club not. Spurs have never been as big as the villa. As for league status who cares since prem was formed we have accumulated more points than most teams and spurs mate. But aside from that we've won more honours than spurs have better and bigger stadium and training facilities. Yes villa have had 3 bad seasons after successful seasons where you are now. We are now back on stable terms with lambert who has built a good up coming squad. We will be back up there very soon my friend. I do like spurs personally but the posts from yourselves smacks of arrogance, like you can take whoever you want. Well looking at your targets they are either going elsewhere or in our case staying where they are. Last year spurs level of play was not as good as the year before. Next season I think will be the same again and if you lose bale you could really have a bad season. Today's lesson is don't throw stones at glass houses UTV

over the last 100 yrs you've won the league once, the fa cup twice, the European cup once[a fine achievement]the intertoto cup once, and the main stay of your success the league cup 5 times.
your stadium currently holds 5k more than the lane and your training facilities are certainly not up to the standard of ours.
presently, u are rebuilding a young squad under a decent manager, with the dream of challenging for top 4, which currently is miles away.
the problem will be keeping your players as the team improves and they improve, two steps forward, one back, so u may find it more difficult to establish yourselves in the top 6 or so of the league than u think.

When I first saw it I was shocked, thought it was grim but now I've seen the official photos I actually quite like it
My personal opinion is that the home shirt would be improved slightly if the blue of the hp symbol and the trim matched. Over than that, it's class.
I've always prefered a yellow away shirt so to find yet another blue one is disappointing. Not a lover of the underlining "pattern" to it. But not a bad effort. There's been worse floating around.
Hoping for a nice 3rd kit, but then again I've seen a royal blue one with LIME GREEN on the shoulders and sides (simular to the training kit, so looks authentic) its arwful.

Just read that Bayern Munich have announced an agreement in principle has been reached with Fiorentina over the transfer of Mario Gomez.
The transfer fee is likely to be somewhere between £15-17m, with various clauses added to it, but that's a snip these days. Shame we didn't mount more of a challenge for Gomez. I reckon he'd have done well at the Lane with Bale and Co supplying the ammunition.
Could Jurgen not have put in a good word for us?

Does anyone see us playing a 4. 2. 3. 1 next season, having Paulinho & Dembele with Sandro as Super Sub, allowing Bale to keep his free roam pos behind a striker (Villa) and two wide men (Lennon) and maybe a new left wing (Jese Rodriguez/Nacer Chadli)

Thoughts?
Paulinho, Sandro and Dembele have to start as a midfield 3 next season, much like how brazil set up for the confederations cup. We have players in Siggy and Holtby who can change the dynamics of the game at any given opportunity. There will be times next season when we will need to rely on these 2 to perform and challenge for places. The competition in midfield looks good so now our 'only' focus should be on 1/2 Fowards.
Sell Dempsey and Huddlestone as they don't bring any jaw dropping football to our team. actually they do in a way. my jaw has a tendency to drop in anger when these 2 start, particularly Dempsey.

I love a fit Sandro. but his injuries the last 2 seasons worry me. building a midfield with him as a key component seems a little fragile to me. History indicates he will likely miss half the season. we'd better have some solid coverage.
