An article by The Oracle which I have found recently. No mention of the Olympic Staduim!! Here is the article which I find it quite good.

"Here's a post sent in by a Tottenham fan ('The Oracle') in support of Chairman Daniel Levy.

'When Daniel Levy took over as Chairman of Spurs, we'd spent the previous five seasons in 10th -14th place, with a team during that period which included the likes of Armstrong, Ferdinand, Anderton, Rebrov, Doherty, Clemence, Davies, Korsten, Carr, Iversen, Sherwood, Leonhardson, Andy Booth, Sullivan, Thatcher, Gardner, Perry, Nilson, Taricco, Hans Segers, Luke Young, Tremezanni, Berti, Saib, Dominguez, Vega, Scales, Baardsen.

And as dedicated as some of these players were, anyone with an ounce of footballing knowledge could see that these guys were never going to secure our position as a top club.

Since 2001, Levy has taken Tottenham into a new era - not only has he achieved top five positions over five different seasons, he has thankfully also avoided the Portsmouth and Leeds financial models in the process.

In addition Levy has had the compounded pressure during his tenure of those artificial cash injections from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and now Manchester City. This financial bias is like trying to run an airline when your three major competitors are flying people first class around the world on economy fares and being prepared to lose hundreds of millions of pounds in the process.

Levy has given us players of the ilk of Van Der Vaart, Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Vertonghen and Sandro. We have quality players in depth like never before, and we have the funds already sidelined to build a new stadium as well. We have finished 4th, 5th and 4th in the Premiership in the last three years, and Levy clearly felt that that wasn't good enough for his ambitions for the club. I loved what Harry Redknapp brought to the club from a motivational perspective, but I doubt many true Spurs fans weren't wondering what the bloody hell was going on in respect of some of the tactics he employed. In Levy and AVB we must now trust.

Next we come to the Luka Modric affair. Now Modric is clearly a top quality player, someone we signed for a very competitive price considering he was already a proven international star. A player who was nutured and commited enough to sign a long contract with the club. And, to be fair, a player who had shown some flashes of Barcelonesk flair and ability.

But the opportunity to play at the highest level, and the ability to double his wages, was clearly a temptation too far. Levy was stoic in rejecting Chelsea's advances, and selling him to the enemy would have only been counterproductive in any case. Levy's business acument and negotiation skills seem to point to a Modric move away from the Premiership, for a fee somewhere around £36m. I find it hard to understand how anyone could regard this as anything other than superb business for the club.

So let's stop for a moment and summarise Levy's tenure:

1. He has moved Spurs from a mid-table sleeping giant to a geniune top four contender.

2. He has invested wisely in players and built a squad of real quality and depth.

3. He has budgeted and planned a state of the art new stadium for the near future.

4. He has operated a profitable Plc unlike many of our main competitors.

5. He is loyal and ambitious and has the genuine interests of the club at heart.

And I, for one, ain't complaining'."

Completly agree with this post. levy is a great chairman simple, if not the best, defintly one of best chairmans in the premier league, hope he sticks to his guns and dosent sell modric to a premier league side and only away from the premier league !

Steven Pienaar has re-joined Everton on a four-year contract after a £4.5million deal was agreed with Tottenham Hotspur. Well that's Adebayor's 1st weeks wages sorted!!
ou812

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Hopefully ade will now talk it out with tottenham and we could give him a big signing on fee, for example the 4.5 million we get from pienaar to sort out his charitys or whatever he wants the money for. Then we would be paying him one hundred grand a week which he is happy with, and on the whole will only be spending around ten million on him 5 million to man city and the pienaar money for his signing on fee, we arent going to get a striker in the same class as ade for 10 million

Duh....Can we stop all the Toy throwing and moaning. Modric is worth £40 mill of anyone's money but yes there are alternatives for clubs like Madrid to consider. Modric signed a Contract for FOUR YEARS so he is up the river Lea without a paddle.

Good On Daniel Levy for playing hardball. If we don't buy another single player this window we have a squad that will get us in the Top Four and a decent Coach to boot, so lets all just cheer up and cheer even louder when RVP trips off up Highbury Grove on his way to a new life.

We have a great squad. In the end Modric will calm down and realise that if he has half a brain he will accept the better deal he was offered and crack on with it. He will be playing CL football next season anyway. Boaz Army !

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Modric stays or goes we still need a goal scorer or all that midfield talent will be for nothing.

Re Bucky Ohare Suarez or whatever your pathetic name is, every player wants Chelsea cos of your phllustrious past and great traditions. When you look back and see legends like Jon Harley, Ken Monkou, Kevin Hitchcock, Paul Elliot to name a few and who can blame Oscar for wanting into all this glamour and money had nothing to do with it your right!!!
Chelsea are a tiny club with money you fool.

Agree2 Disagree3

I support neither so I am unbiased, but Spurs are the one who are a small club who like to think they have money and a pull over the worlds best player....when they do not.

Chelsea are current European Champions and multiple Premier League winners so your argument is flawed

Agree4 Disagree5

Ex Chelsea players of the past like
Jimmy Greaves, Terry Venables.Their names ring a bell?
I often hear about this big club small club thing so tell me if Spurs are a big club does that mean that those who support them were quite simply glory hunters?

Agree4 Disagree4

Your attempted argument is completely flawed, you mention poor ex Chelsea players. I suppose the likes of Colin Calderwood, Jason Dozzell and Ramon Vega make Spurs a bigger club right?
Once again answer the question same fee same personal terms who would Oscar choose. Who knows maybe he could of been swayed by Spurs glorious double in the 60's, im sure his grandad could of remembered back that far to remember

Bucky O Hare Suarez

Agree1 Disagree0

Why would anyone be happy about spending 25 mill on a player they've only seen on YouTube?? Because he's Brazilian? Spurs have a first refusal policy with inter so obviously they didn't think he was worth the money......they seen Chelsea coming a mile away

Agree1 Disagree1

Sure I didnt say spurs were big club or loaded with money. we do really well with what we have and develop players and make good money on them ie berbatov brought for 10m sold for 30m and now modric possibly brought for 16m touted at 30-40m, walker brought for 3m now worth lot more bale 3m worht 30m + chelsea need the money pumped in by abramovich to stay where they are. Both teams have had fair share of great and bad players but we have earnt our place in top four. chelsea have brought it. Oscar didnt even know where chelsea finished in the league. His decision was finacial. Fair play but it wasnt based on style of play. Be very interesting seeing how chelsea accomadate marin hazard x2 oscar along with mata lampard and if they jel. I think oscar will spend a lot of time on the bench with marin. waste of talent, like de bruiyn.

DEBATE to alll spurs fans:

Regardless of who the manager is now and who we bring in would you all settle for 5th next season as too. I think that is where we will finish as city, utd arse and chelsea would do alot better then last season. We finished above chelsea but i fancy them for the title this season mainly because of the quality they have brought in
mr g
go on shoot me down. Read understand then reply (this for all the fellow spurs supporters that think we will sign players like hulk,Oscar and messi) ( the dreamers)

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I think there is a realistic chance we will make 4th above one of United, Arsenal or Chelski. I think City will consolidate and win again this season.

Agree1 Disagree2

Think we will do better than gooners especially should rvp leaves. id say 4th but chavski's galactico's may not fit so 3rd is a distinct possibility if we get in 2 good strikers.

ANT

Agree1 Disagree1

It all depends how WE do to where we finish. Di Matteo isn't that good a tactician, just extremely lucky (say that you weren't extremely lucky to win the CL Chelsea fans) and I don't think they will do as well as everyone thinks. Arse will probably be strong regardless of the RVP situation, I think Giroud and Podolski are more than enough quality to cover him. United and City will always be tough. It depends on how AVB gets the lads playing, worried he will use his high-line defence in the PL which never would work because of the pace of the game. If we do the business and strengthen the squad (like the look of Remy and Moutinho) then hopefully we should be okay.

Oh and Liverpool, they won't be a threat.

Agree3 Disagree2

Sorry Mr G , but I will shoot you down ! I dont think we are going to sign all the top players , to me one will do , but no way will Chavski finish above us no matter who they buy . As soon as one of the old ones get dropped , they will moan and team spirit will go straight out of the window . Di Mattao is not really a manager of top players , and as soon as he doesnt toe the line , Terry will drop a strop . Arsenal , thats difficult . Depends how they start the season . Start badly and the gooners will be on their backs , and thats the end of them . I think we will finish top four for definate , and if Fergie concentrates on the CL , then they could slip up as well !

Agree0 Disagree1

City will be hard to stop, but after that there are issues with each team. Manu have freebie to sort things out, but haven't looked to be at their best the last couple of seasons. L'Arse have some potential issues if RVP goes and their new signings take a while to settle it and the Russian mafia I don't see RDM getting that team into the Top 4 , their defense is suspect to pace....and us we need someone to put the ball in the back of the net consistently. S potentially 2nd downwards is open subject to what happens in the next few weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

i hope im wrong. Id like nothing better then to admit it at the end of the season. We fell short mainly because after xmas we go caught short, teams knew how to play us.Ive been watcging all the pre seasons just look very light weight up front. We look solid at the back we will be hard to break down this season. Just need fire power
mr g

Agree0 Disagree0

1 Man City
2 Manu Utd/Spurs/Chelsea
5 Arsenal

No doubt City have talent and no one has more world class stars than them. even if they do not add to their squad, they have one of the best in the world already.

Spurs, Utd, Chelsea will be close, Spurs have a great team that no one can deny, but we probably will bottle it as we do not have anyone who has been there and done that before....Furgie's teams have this drilled in, that is why when they are loosing, they always look like they can nick a goal. Suprised they have not reinforced Centre of the midfield where I think they are weak.

Chelsea have an absolute gem in Hazard, have you seen him preseason? gliding past players and will be integral to the team like Silva to City. your final position will remain heavily on Torres scoring, if he remembers how to score you'll be 2nd, if not, you'll be 4th. Your weak position is your manager. Worst decision ever to make him your permanant manager, I personally think he could be gone by January with maybe Rednapp replacing him (unless you guys are top of the league ofcourse).

Arsenal loosing all their good players and replacing them with hopefuls every year for the past 4 years. When 4 of your best players leave (toure, Cesc, Henry, Nasri) and then your next 2 best (RVP and Walcot) want to leave then it only means your team is getting worse. They no longer fight for the title but just fight to stay above us.

All in all, will be a very exciting premiership, but Hazard will light up the prem in my opinion.

I have heard it all know! RDM isn't a good manager the bloke has won the champion league u Muppets! Clueless and embrassing as he won it by using great tactics to beat the likes of barca!

Pinky

Napoleon would only appoint Generals that were thought to be lucky. A very famous golfer (cant rememenber his name) said its odd that the harder he trained the luckier people said he became.
Brian Clough was not tactician he had Peter Taylor for that
Di Matteo may not be the best tactitian but he has man management skills. Lets face it the majority of top league managers have several support coaches.
As for who will win the league I think its going to be far more open than last year. Defending the title will be very very difficult and I am not too sure that Man u will be to the high standard of last season as they were last year their main stays Giggs, Scholes and to a lesser degree Evra and Ferdinand are starting to loose their edge. Arsenal , well who knows with them. Chelsea will perform better than they did last season and the rumour is that they are still looking for a top quality forward and a right back. Liverpool will struggle to even match last years position and the signs are they are looking to offlad certian players so their squad will not be as strong.
So to Spurs. AVB is intent ,it seems, on playing a high line. It will be either a masterstoke or a total failure. He has to finish 4th or better but the firepower seems to be lacking at the moment. Also I cant see Parker being comfortable nor do I see the back four either quick enough or adaptable enough .
Bale will be fine going forward but not sure he will be able to track back well enough VDV will fit in well as will Sandro.
Up front Lennon will be fine going forward but pressing, well again not sure.
Spurs have made two good signings but more need to come if a 4th or better is to be achieved.

Is it just me thinking about the freeze in signings with 3 weeks to go.....surely it cant all revolve around the modders deal because that means we are not investing in layers for another season. We have sold (nico, charlie, pav last jan also king has retired so a huge player off the books) Steven p is more or less gone to everton rumours of 4.5m so that shows us with out pavs money that we have covered the costs of sigs and jan. Does enyone know real info of the hold up or is buisness concluded by Mr levy.
Mr g

Believable0 Unbelievable2

When I started to think about the sum of £100 million to include wages and fees, that the press said would be available to AVB partly funded it seems from £40 million coming from the Moderic sale it started to ring alarm bells for the two signings so far ,including wages, will cost about £60-£65 million so the concern surely is that everything does indeed hinge on selling players to fund further spending.
DL will not let the club incur further debt and FFP restricts money that anyone can put in. Bale has received a huge pay rise and there isnt CL monies so whilst tV income will go up overheads will also grow.
So all in all other than maybe a loan or a £10-£15 million striker I really cant see much more comimg in unless further funds are generated.
So what does £10-£15 million buy? Well players of the standard of Carlton Cole or maybe Daniel Sturridge in terms of English players and in terms of foreign players the bulk of experienced or future prospects at that price have just about all been snapped up so in the main you are looking at players that clubs will loan because either they are young and need playing time or they are expensive and no longer fit into their clubs plan .
So back to the point unless DL is prepared to let the debt grow ang big time player coming does depend on the sale of Moderic.

Out: Modric (£35 mil)
In: Adebayor (£5 mil)

Quality and experienced depth in all positions; this would make us a very strong outfit for next season.

Genuine question seems lots of sour grapes about Oscar "choosing" Chelsea over Spurs. Usual guff about only going for the money etc Hypothetically If both teams offered same fee and identical wages who do you think the boy would choose?
Also seems a bit rich to talk about money when Sigurdson just signed because you offered him a better deal than Liverpool

Bucky O Hare Suarez

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Hypothetical again mate......the chavs wouldn't agree a same figure as another team. If they want that player, they will always offer higher and we will always be talking about this.
Talking about things being rich, why did Cole, downing, Bellamy, Suarez go to Liverpool, one reason, money. So don't come on ere moaning about one deal for a very good young prospect who decided to choose a better future {Ed001's Note - Cole got offered more money by Spurs, but he was persuaded by Gerrard and Carragher, who he is close friends with, that he would be a hero at Liverpool if he joined. Downing didn't even get a pay rise to join Liverpool. Bellamy not just spent millions buying out his contract at City, but took a massive pay cut to join Liverpool. So I think you are talking utter nonsense, Liverpool don't pay the huge money any more, it just isn't there. You seem to have forgotten that it was a club on the verge of admin just a couple of years ago, it is still running at a loss now. The wage bill is being reduced.}

Agree1 Disagree0

No sig joined us to win trophies and titles! Something Rodgers can't do and won't do at Liverpool

Spurs Lad {Ed001's Note - he never had an option to join Liverpool anyway, Rodgers knew how much he had agreed to sign for at Swansea and refused to contemplate the much higher wages he was asking for as it was Liverpool interested. Spurs on the other hand, could afford to pay them, wanted him and didn't see it as an issue that he wanted higher wages to play for a better team. There was no choosing between the clubs, Liverpool never agreed a fee with Hoffenheim, Spurs did.}

Agree0 Disagree3

Nothing to do with joining the champion league winners and playing in the competition next season then only the money

Agree2 Disagree0

He would choose the kings of Europe every time! Every player wants to play for a known club across the world and not a team that had an open top bus parade for losing 4-3 to inter in champs league a few seasons back

I think most of us would like to see some competition/cover for lennon and bale. Personally I think Affelay would be a great option. Can play in a good variety of positions and wouldn't be that expensive as barca don't seem to need him. No idea what kind of wages he's on but I think we could give him enough.

We do need strikers, a GK and a modders replacement more urgently but I think Affelay is definitely worth getting. Thoughts? (any chance of this happening ed?)

We have been linked with him in his PSV days, and also as he is a Dutch international, don't you think he would be on our books somewhere when he was playing at the highest level? What kind of role to people expect Bale to be playing this year now that he's be assigned the number 9 shirt? Somebody on here a while ago said that he could be played more centrally as an attacker and I laughed it off, but now it seems that it could be a possibility, provided that Adams hasn't done too much damage again!

And Eds, any news on any movement on a Striker?

Club statement on the OS a couple of weeks ago explicitly mentioned that shirt numbers were still likely to change in preseason. They will only be confirmed at the start of the prem season, so don't read too much into it.
