I understand the financial, compassionate and even tactical reasons for VDV to leave but, Modric goes and Dembele comes in, Moutinho/Wiliam come in and Rafa goes would still leave us very light and still short of a striker. Not good enough and will leave us struggling whenever we lose a couple of the first XI and particularly Sundays after Europa ties!

Liverpool fan here in peace. Just want to say that I thought you lot would struggle to get a top 4 position this year. But after the signing of Dembele (spelling) you have just pulled of the signing of the season. This guy is world class from what I've seen and will deffo propell you to a top 4 finnish. How you got him for 15 million is beyond me. Real madrid will make a bid for him next season guaranteed. Any way good luck for the season I hope Utd and Arsenal miss out on a top 4 and we can sneak a spot along with Spurs.

I can't see him spending £100 million this window. So unless we get another £30million from sales, I can't see a marquee no.9 coming in.

We have spent nearly 40 million but we've brought in 50 million (not including january sales), our net spend is -10 million.

I have a concern. While i dont believe in everything i read or hear, there is enough circumstantial evidence to suggest that more players than we would have believed could be available at the right price.
Fine, we sell then we buy replacements BUT i do get the horrible gut feeling that wholesale changes, if they happen could be pretty bad for us.
IIRC, AVB was accused of try ing to make too many changes too soon at Chelski.
As somebody who has backed him and DL to the hilt, i truly hope he has learned lessons from his tenure with the Sloanies..

The thing about the chavs is that, terry, drogba,cole,lampard,cech would of all had influence on that team. Undermining AVB.
He has free reign at spurs. It's him only.

Sy I understand totally where you are coming from with wholesale changes. But dnt worry as who ever we sell I'm sure we will sign better + the squad we have is about 3-4 years now and last season they showed us how far they can go. Let's just hope we get a few more top players ohh and keep vdv

With Dembele's arrival i just wanted peoples opinions. What formation is AVB gonna play this season. I only ask because with bale, sig, and dembele all attacking midfielders. Assuming vdv and lennon leave we would still struggle to fit everyone in playing the 4-3-3 everyone says avb loves so much. I've heard Dembele can play deeper in CM like Modric. Thoughts? I think it's worth noting that dembele can play up front as well. In fact he can play almost anywhee in front of the defence

Although Dembele isnt lazy he is apart of the mind frame Ann is looking for in high tempo every player presses ....

That starting line up is exactly how i would set up, however i feel we still have not finished in transfers so could change again. I think Siggie will settle in okay but much like VDV he drifts in and out, however always capable of changing a game with a peice of magic!
Have just organised with a couple of mates our friday night plan. It starts on the sofa in front of SSN and finishes rougly 12pm on sofa watching SSN. There will be beers drunk and hopefully some happiness and cheering the namke of Daniel Levy!

Not sure in AVB's model we need a like for like replacement for Modric. Think we re going to be more talented across the park with better ball players and more fluid movement up and down the pitch.

I have been slightly concerned (maybe just frustrated) the last few weeks but things finally seem to be coming together now with the selling of Modric and signing of Dembele who is looking like becoming a complete midfielder.
I have also been pleased with AVB and what he is trying to do. I just hope we give him time! I think even a 5th finish place this year wont be terrible although i really feel we should be pushing for champions league place.The style of play and the players we have brought in along with who we are trying to clear out show signs of playing a very fluid and exciting brand of football. Just want to see Lloris, anyone from Moutinho, Isco or Willian and a striker like Llorente, Remy come in now and the premiership should start panicking, especially those Gooners down the road who seem to be trying to seel everyone that has ever played a decent game for them, well saying that i am not sure Walcott has!
Anyway, come on spurs, AVB, and even Levy who is making me eat some nice humble pie with his decent dealings! Big win on sat to get AVB properly off and running.

Dan84 - the most excited i have been in 28 years of supporting this great club!

I bet everyone will stop slagging Levy off on saturday then ||||||

Lloris holding talks this very moment, anyone else concerned with the players avb wants out?..dawson,vdv,lennon and now parker..there are defnitely not many players outhere who are good enough to replace these players??..and if there is we won't be able to afford them!!..starting to worry about avb and his methods, these are top players who cannot be replaced by mediocre players..dawson: top defender,captain material,parker,tough tackling midfielder who works his socks off!, lennon, pacey, can open up defences with his pace, vdv, clever,scores goals and assists.

Paper talk. Prob, if any, dawson and vdv. Def not Parker and Lennon.

Parker is very much over rated if we could get in mvilla then I would be glad to see the back of Parker I would start Sandro over Parker every time too

Hate to say this guys, AVB will run this club into the ground! Harry was a couple of signings from great things. Now! We're all of a sudden having a clear out. Av C##T!

Completely disagree, Modric was always going to go even if harry stayed, i dont want to see dawson go he's spurs through and through and you need players like him at your club, but 10-12m for a defender who is 28/29 is not bad business. VDV if he goes and we get 9m plus again i think is good business, he has been good for us but drifts in and out of games and makes rash challenges and decisions. The rest going out have been dead wood.

The players we have brought in IMO are excellent gilfi - young, gets goals great technically, the vertonghenator looks like a beast, Dembele is a very exciting player, Ade - great for us last season - and then possibly Willian, Moutinho, LLoris, LLorente and Dzagoev

Plus we have good young players coming through ..... i think its exciting times at the Lane

Open your eyes mate avb is buying modern technically good young players. Offloading deadwood and older players before they are worthless.

I think AVB will need 2 seasons for his approach to bring trophies, we may sneak a cup this season. But I think getting the players in and working together will take a full season before we see it all come together. And some of what we've seen in the first 2 games was impressive even though we don't get the results.

Couldn't agree more I was quiet impressed the way we played so far regardless of the results you could tell we are only 2-3 players away from having a amazing team, once avb has time to get them playing the way he wants and he gets another two windows to build his squad I honestly believe we can push for the title next season. I think Dembele could play alongside sando instead of Livermore, behind the striker instead of VDV/Sig or on the wings instead of lennon

It's confusing mate. Avb said he is counting on vdv. Then buys 2 young players in his position. Unless he's keeping him as a sub I can see him leaving for hamburg.

If rumours are to be believed and we sell VDV, Dawson, Defoe, Bentley, Jenas and Hudd (loan), then Dembele, Lloris, Willian and Remy suddenly looks very viable indeed. Could be a great window for us this year.

Starting to think AVB is gonna try 4 def and 6 mids with no striker? We have 10 plus midfielders.

Anyone else think this could be a possibility and think it could work.

We have the likes of Bale, Lennon, Siggy, VDV, and now dembele who can all score goals plus the odd few from BAE, walker, and verts.

Eds any thoughts?
