Re Indy Kevin, i hear what your saying but Tottenham are the unluckiest team around when it comes to bad decisions against us. I hope it changes next week but decisions against Man Utd for a long time have been inexcusuably poor. Normally its Webb or Clattenburg that do the damage, Pedro Mendes goal, Nani's joke of a goal, Vidic blatant handballs the list goes on and on mate.
Watch the Lazio game from last week and the Stoke game from last year and Chelsea at home to see how unlucky we get, the word corrupt comes to mind, its almost impossible to get it soo wrong. I aint moaning its just painful to get soo many bad decisions against us all the time.

Bear yod, shall we play 6 in midfield just to fit in all our midfielders?!

Done .... If Defoe gets injured it would probably be the best thing to do

Pathetic first half, totally unacceptable. There is something about Avb which really gets to me, something aint right about him.

Believable11 Unbelievable8

Could it be the fact that he is infinitely richer, better looking, more popular and just generally more successful than you? Get a grip we just came from behind ffs. He made a mistake with the starting lineup, rectified it and we won, simple as.

Agree7 Disagree5

I too will take any win that's going, but it is not 'simple as'. This is the third home match running that AVB has had to abandon his own system. Fans talking amongst themselves have every right to voice their concerns, even if it is still very premature to want action to be taken. At this stage, I am simply asking myself: "who is AVB?"

He has had an unusual career path (check Wikipedia). He has never been a professional footballer. His first managerial post was the British Virgin Islands, as a 21 year-old. Most of his short career was spent as an assistant to ˜the special one'.

As a club manager he has had one good season in Coimbra (where he took a club struggling at the foot of the table to mid-table safety) and one great season at Porto, where he took over a team that had won 4 titles in the previous 5 seasons. His time at Chelsea was something of a disaster (for whatever reasons).

That is not the sort of CV that should have put him at the top of Levy's wish list.

So by this logic ...... No new and unheard of people should ever be signed
Bye Bale
Bye Lennon
Bye any and every player and or manager that has had to start somewhere
You are one of these people that want us to sign the gem before he's to expensive
Then cry about it after we have signed the unrefined gem ....

Agree2 Disagree2

By what logic does the previous (anonymous) poster suppose I am arguing that no ˜unheard of ˜ people should ever be signed?

Your scouts bring you good reports of Bale and Lennon. You sign them as teenagers and put them in the youth team or the academy. You monitor their progress and when they look ready, you blood them in the League Cup and as substitutes in games that are already won. If they respond well they may become first choice players very quickly (as happened with Lennon).

What you don't do is to pay £25m or £30m for them, make them captain and throw them into the first team in anticipation that they might eventually become players of that pedigree (as Bale has done).

That is the point I was trying to make about AVB. He was a young, inexperienced manager with one excellent season under his belt. But this was achieved at a club that was already dominating its own domestic league. On this slim basis, Abramovich suddenly decides to break the bank in order to sign him. Why? Would he have signed anyone so inexperienced to manage any of his other £200m businesses?

The result was that the Premiership champions slumped into mid-table and looked to have blown their chances of Champion's League football. AVB is sacked and the caretaker manager brings an immediate improvement. Chelsea actually wins the big prize for the first time and the transition to a younger squad (which was reportedly AVB's brief) then proceeds in an orderly way during the summer.

With this undeniable failure added to his slim CV, AVB is then snapped up by Levy. I again ask why.

The originator of this thread merely reported his personal feeling that something about AVB worried him, only to get a sneering, discourteous response from another fan. I was merely arguing that it is legitimate for fans express concerns, even if it is far too early to be dogmatic about them, and that I too share the first poster's worries about AVB. At the very least, his sudden rise and rise is certainly puzzling.

I am a Spurs fan, so of course I want AVB to be a success, because I want Spurs to be a success. My problem is with other fans who demand unswerving loyalty to a man that has not yet done anything to earn it, while showing no loyalty or gratitude at all to the man that rescued us from probable relegation and gave us the three best back-to-back seasons in the past 30 years.

The cheeky interventions of Pinky are preferable to the bile and venom of some of my fellow Spurs fans.
KM {Ed001's Note - to be fair, AVB was well known to Roman from working with Jose at Chelsea and the players were keen to work with him again. All was well until he dropped those players and they threw their toys out of their pram. Incidentally, RDM's record, prior to taking over as caretaker, is far worse, and offers less experience in the role of management. I do get what you are saying though, his record on its own doesn't suggest he should be first choice. Makes you wonder if he is getting these jobs on the basis of having been Jose's right hand man, rather than on his own merits?}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed001: I agree that it is easier to explain AVB's appointment by Abramovich than his subsequent appointment by Levy. Similarly, your assertion that it was a player revolt that got him the sack at Chelsea is supported by Abramovich himself.

When AVB was appointed, it was obvious that his squad was getting too old. That needed to be addressed, but how? That is where man-management skills come into play. These are difficult to define. If you tell a player what he doesn't want to hear you are an person. Tell him he is first choice in his favourite position and you are the best man-manager in football. However, one thing is clear: it is easier to give bad news if you are getting results.

Abramovich failed to back AVB for one simple reason: after a good result against Man City, Chelsea then went on a league run of 2 wins, 7 draws and 3 defeats in 12 games. Clearly, for a club like Chelsea that couldn't continue.

AVB now has the job of managing the transition from Harry's style of football to his own. Hopefully he is a quick learner and will avoid some of the mistakes he obviously made at Chelsea.

Can't believe I just read this load of old rubbish. Still I learnt a new word...'Dogmatic'..mental!

Agree0 Disagree3

Ok maybe I was a little harsh with what I said ... Maybe
Maybe it is just me hoping too much because of my love of spurs that AvB will be a success ... But I really think AvB may well be maybe not this season ... But a long term successful manager .... Where else were we going to look ? Everton ? People cried he was too defensive ... Wigan ? People cried he wasn't good enough
Norwhich ? Again not proven well
Blackbur...... I joke nobody wants Steve keane xD

We were practically on our knees begging
For a tactical/young/attacking manager
AvB who perhaps the Ed is right perhaps it's because of his vicinity to Mourinho that he was overhyped or because of that great season with Porto ....

And don't get me wrong I do love redknapp still for what he's Done for us ... Man management skills are superb when I say that I mean motivational perhaps he could have handled a few players a bit better ...
But his tactical mind was literally throw Defoe on and hope for the best
AvB tried a different tact vs qpr realised he frakked up changed and we came from behind to win .... How many times have we done that with HR ?

I've admitted to perhaps being too optomistic * which let me add I have never been an optimist *

Perhaps your being too much of a pessimist ? *shrugs*
At the end of the day win or lose ... No matter what manager we have Ill still always support *maybe with some moaning* Spurs

Can I just say after Verts performance ..... I would sleep with him ...... Just saying
Does anyone think that because we have when kaboul comes back 3 brilliant CBs in Kaboul , Verts and caulker that we would play like a 343 formation ? Or something similar ? As we do have a lot of midfielders to use ? Just a thought don't abuse me : )
Bear yod

Believable5 Unbelievable2

How can we play 3-4-3 when we haven't got 3 strikers?! Seriously, going into a PL season with only 2 established strikers is beyond amateurish and will cause us grief before the January TW when we will prob end up paying over the odds for someone we could have got in the Summer window if we'd had our wits about us

Agree2 Disagree0

Wouldn't the forward 2 either side
be just wingers ? And the one striker in the middle similar to a 433 ?
Bear yid

Agree5 Disagree0

I'm getting to think that Verts is gonna take benni's place. Was immense at LB second half yesterday.
Walker,Kaboul, caulker and Verts with lloris behind them is not too shabby I think.
We can now concentrate solely on midfield and up front in next transfer window.

Agree2 Disagree0

Didn't verts also come out and say he doesn't like playing lb ?

Very lucky today. I do not understand how we can be outplayed at home by QPR? I would have thought our midfield would completely outplay theirs! I hope it is due to our team still settling in and getting used to each other. I am delighted with the 3 points but a bit worried with our lack of control of the game. We need Moutinho. Although, Chelsea could not beat QPR last week!

He picked wrong formation first half.
He changed it at half time.
We won. Simples.

A Liverpool fan in peace and a lot of pain!
Just want to say good luck for the match against the mancs next week. Just hoping that u would beat them and not get undone by them like us!
Beware of their main threat - THE REFS all others are rubbish!!

Indy Kevin

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Cheers kev .... Wasn't a fan of your scoreline either today

Indy Kevin. I really wanted you to beat that classless lot yesterday, we, on the other hand are just preparing ourselves for the annual drubbing on Saturday. Good luck to Liverpool F.C for the rest of the season.

Hope Levy is satisfied , no decent striker , no forward action . And what the heck was AVB doing playing Bale at left back . I am going to get shot down for this , but why is defoe playing up front on his own ? Yes I know he scored again but when we are under pressure , we need the ball held up up front , not returned straight back . And please someone tell him to stop playing like Micheal Owen and look up a bit more often before he decides on his shoot whatever policy ! Yes we won , but how I dont know ! Thank god for Vert Freidel and Walker thats all I have to say !!
Davo

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Bale was playing left back because Naughton and BAE are injured. I bet if he had started Vertonghen there you'd have accused him of being too defensive

Agree3 Disagree0

Well you would have lost your bet wouldnt you !! I am sure that Gallas could have started there , or Vert ! Starting Bale there was a huge cock up , but at least he made the change when needed !

Just watched the 1st half.what a mess. Avb just showed his true colours and how stubborn he is. He put bale left back when vat could play there and we got Dawson left out

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Dawson is as good as gone, the key thing is here, AVB put it right at half time. If Harry was still here he would have pulled Defoe off and put Livermore at left back. Probably in the 83rd minute!

Edds.? Do you think that spurs will be getting any Real Madrid players on loan or buying,as we are in a special relationship.? {Ed002's Note - Not first team players.}
