Just a question to fellow Spurs fans, obviously not many of us on here want Benteskey so who do we want to wear the mighty white shirt?

Personally I would like to see Dzeko or Torres as I think they both could have a point to prove and would both relish being the top striker at the club as opposed to second or third choice. But as other people have commented on I could also see Bale put up top and us getting another one or two wingers in which could also work.

thoughts please

Having said all that just spoken to Oracle and he has informed me we are on the verge of signing someone by the name of Damiao, whoever that is LOL

Good call on Dzeko, I think he should be a target. Maybe £20-22m would do it and be much better than Benteke! Agree on Torres being worth a punt at £15m or less, that is cheap for a World Cup winning striker who like others has suffered under Drogba shadows, a big-price tag and the Chelski managerial circus. After that Soldado, but looks unlikely to leave (test them with £20m on the table though). Martinez looks good but big price tag. Surely there are some cheaper, lesser known punts out there too, shouldn't scouts be working on those and suggesting somebody?
Bent back for £5m it is then haha. Funnily enough I bet he'd get goals as a loan front man in our side now (but no, I'm not advocating signing him, even though we may get nobody!).
Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, what scouts?

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo,

In all honesty, as much as I don't want him back, if it come to it, I would rather have Bent at £5m than Benteke at £25m.

Although I would love to see Dzeko or Torres, this wouldn't happen although we could afford the fees I think wages would be a massive stumbling block with both more than likely earning in excess of £150k a week. As for our scouts we defiantly have some unfortunately all they seem to do is sit on their asses.

Out of all of the strikers we have/are linked with I would most like to see Soldado, however he seems intent on staying in Spain after that probably Jackson Martinez, but again can not see that happening.

I just hope and pray we sign the striker we so badly need and at the same time hope and pray that it isn't Benteke!

Papiss Cisse seems to have no way of playing at Newcastle. He would be a good signing in my opinion. Goals, can hold the ball up, good in the air, mobile, physical and would be even more effective with better players around him. £12m? Someone will snap him up and get goals from him

P-to-the-S

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Does he want to come off the bench? I'd like to believe we will have better as a starting striker come start of the season.

I am hearing that we have had a bid for McCarty exepted

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Seen the same rumor, subject to medical. Goodbye Parker and Hudd if true. and maybe 1 or 2 others.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did you hear that Jim. ?

Are we not looking for better quality than McCarthy. Surely we are.

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt we are, to be fair he looks very promising.
Simmo

For AVB to play 433 he will need cover for Sandro and Paulino so would work well.

I know it's still early in the window and there's plenty of time to go but is anyone else starting to get a feeling of deja vu? For fear of repeating what we all know our striker situation in woeful at best and we have and accident waiting to happen (and often does) at left back!
KMB

Believable0 Unbelievable0

LB we have coverage currently. BAE, Rose, Verts and Naughton all capable of playing there. Now is it good coverage i'm not sure. but currently better than last season with Rose remaining at the Lane.

We all no the dire striker situation & I find it surprising people in here defend levy & how great a businessman he is, I have to disagree.
If levy was that great he would of invested in a top striker over the last 3 seasons which would of got us champions league & probably at least trippled what the outlay would have been in revenue.
We now find our in a situation where every other team know we are desperate for a striker so will overprice as appears to be happening with benteke. I think it is becoming obvious we are desperate to offload Ade & like above everyone else knows that so probably only underpriced bids will be made although I would be happy to get rid for free!
I fear like other spurs fans that levy being a tite ass will not pay these inflated prices leaving us with not much hope of top 4 with everyone else willing to spend.
On a brighter note going to watch the game 2mora and hope a few of the squad players can impress.

Rob

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Blame Joe Lewis.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rob,

I don't think anyone can question Daniel Levy as a Businessman, he has turned spurs into a profitable business and an attractive proposition for investors, sponsors and players alike, his problem is he always wants the best for our club and that inevitably means driving his buying prices as low as he can (which inevitably p!$$e$ off other chairman) and then he pushes up his selling prices which again upsets other chairmen again.

I think what all general Spurs fans are saying is that whilst his business accumen is extremely good, he now needs to speculate to accumalate, which he doesn't seem to be prepared to do, but again is that the fault of Daniel Levy or Joe Lewis or both?

If Chelsea sign Rooney why not bid 15m for Torres and ed any news on players going out need rid of dead wood. {Ed002's Note - "Dead wood" is a pretty foul way of describing players from the club you support.}

hi Ed was just wondering if there is any chance that Mario mandzukic could leave, I know Bayern have already sold Gomez but is mandzukic part of Guardiola plans and is there is any chance we could get him.
Smithy {Ed002's Note - He is not on the list of players they are looking to sell.}

Did Levy screw up the David Villa negotiations?

I have looked at several different accounts of the story, in the Mirror, the Guardian, the Metro and Goal to try and piece together the truth (in as far as it will even be known).

I have also consulted Oracle so I can now lay the full facts before you.

Barcelona wanted Villa's £140k a week off their payroll. Villa wanted regular first team football to secure his place in the next World Cup.

Barcelona knew Tottenham was desperate for a quality striker and quoted a fee of £12m. This was outrageous for player that would be 32 in December and was in the last year of his contract. We should just have told them where to insert it.

Despite this insult, we continued the negotiations and agreed a fee of £8m (still ridiculous) and were close to agreeing personal terms with Villa. However, Spurs was not quite what Villa really wanted, so he and his agent were determined to milk the deal for all it was worth.

Levy reluctantly agreed to pay Barcelona what they wanted and Villa what he wanted, but drew the line at paying a huge fee to his agent. Then Atletico came in with their bid.

Now Villa had an option that meant he wouldn't have to relocate his family to a new country or learn a new language. He would be playing in the Champions League for third best team in Spain and this would help raise his profile with the Spanish fans, press and manager.

This is exactly what he was waiting for. Suddenly, all the difficulties over his personal terms, and his agent's blood money, disappear and the matter is settled in three days.

I think Villa's own account of this stinks. If this canting hypocrite has a poor season, and misses out on the World Cup next year, I won't be crying.

Re David Villa

I just want to make it clear that I am not complaining about Villa’s decision. From his point of view it was the right one. I am just disgusted that he is trying to blame us for his change of heart.

If we had immediately agreed to every outrageous demand he and his agent made, he would probably have signed for us before Atletico made their move. But once they were in the frame there is no way he was ever going to join us. Why would he?

The clearest indication of this was that Barcelona accepted an up-front payment of £1.8m rather than the £8m agreed with us. Villa and his agent obviously said: "Forget about Spurs. It is Atletico or nothing. "

So, Villa's first instruction to his agent was: "Get all you can out of Spurs. "

His second instruction was: "Get the Atletico deal done, whatever it takes. "

With Negredo, Aguero and Jovetic all going to be top 3 choices at Man City, Surely it would be worth chucking a bid in for Dzeko? He would probably cost less than Benteskey and would be more greatful of the playing opportunties. He's 27 so still has years left in him too. He's strong, tall, great touch, puts in a good shift, hell of a finish too.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would love him at the lane, I think he is exactly what we should be signing. Don't see him being sold to a English team though.

Negredo to citeh £21.5 mill and £75k a week! Another strike target bites the dust! Damiao is off to Napoli just what are levy/ baldini up to?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Will u lay off levy and co. untill end of window. be a supporter not a moaner. your sounding like a villa fan over bentesky. yidade

Agree0 Disagree0

Have given levy the last 3-4 windows fella! Everytime we get close there's always a problem fax machine etc, etc. we are just sick of the excuses balls up and missed players we should be champs league regulars but for the lack of investment! Every window we miss out on players and end up buying last minute. com! Much as I like them are Dempsey and siggy really the players to take us forward? I think not!

Agree0 Disagree0

Siggy, yes potentially. Everyone was happy with this signing when it happened (at the beginning of the window I might add) he's still young and look much better end of the season last year. Dempsy, no. But we needed someone.

Let me ask you, would you have been happy with 25mill spent on Benteke? How about 17+ mill on an unproven, overhyped, doesn't score many goals Brazilian? Let me ask another question, who would you have bought to take us to the next level without paying ridiculous money and wages on?

I'm more of a negative poster but only out of frustration and consider myself a realist. We really have been one signing away from having two more years of Champions League football and who knows what that could've led to in terms of income, new player interest (young and established), overall club profile and potential investors for the new stadium. In other words, call it prudent if you want but I call it short-sighted and stagnation. It could be argued we are a one-man-team in terms of goal threat from last season and that should not be the case. The squad was thin and un-balanced without enough fire-power so, ultimately we were fatigued and came up short in Europa League and Premier League. It wasn't by much, £5m Berbs, £2m Michu, £7m Benteke (then, not now at £20m!) - all would've made the difference. Negredo in January at £12m could've been done, Damaio - don't get me started on that debacle.

Anyway, I said back in May we'd probably be in for another summer where we were made to feel grateful when the biggest signing is a player we already own and it may well be that way. This time last year the squad was similar, we get Sandro and Kaboul back and sign Paulinho so why will there be anybody else? We didn't get another striker in last year during two windows. If we sell one of Ade or Defoe then it's an even bigger gamble buying one new striker as still no cover. The overall situation with squad depth doesn't look like being much different.

With all the previous in mind, it seems nuts that Levy would part with anything like £20m for Benteke,. A potential one season wonder, definitely a trouble-maker. It seems crazy when he hasn't done cheaper and more 'safe' deals to date and is really annoying as it could've been totally avoidable. We could have been comfortably top 3 for a couple of years and had the likes of Rooney thinking; if I go to Spurs I get to play with Bale, i'm in the Champions League and we could win the Premier League if I score 20-25goals.

It's not dream-land, hindsight and the league table shows how close it was. All that time wasted makes it more difficult. It could now be argued that with the top 3 changing managers and the enemy still trying to spend but not spend to get back up there, that there is another small window of opportunity to have-a-go. Man City and Chelski spending bundles and have good managers but, it's still going to be very new for everybody to gel for a whole season, and they have higher pressure to deliver. United, who knows, big shoes to fill there and Rooney issues.

In other words; sign a proven, quality striker and maybe even another decent, creative/goal-scoring addition and we could be well up there. Last chance saloon otherwise because Bale WILL go by next summer, then we will be chasing very hard to even stay still in 5th or 6th.

As all the paper trash gets us spurs fans nervous.
Bale will not be sold to utd or any1 this year
He is the face of FIFA 14, that's a big money spinner for him I'm sure they would have asked him before hand.
Ea sports will have to change all there advertising if he leaves
So no he is staying

Ok positive from me.
If levy come out and says we are giving bale a bumper contract and he will not be sold this year or even next BUT
We will not sign a striker I'd be yes HAPPY.
As a striker I think he can be the best in the world
Mr g

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mr g, I agree, I said something similar further down, we seem to be looking at more wingers and attacking mids that strikers, so maybe chadil or holtby with lennon on wings and bale down middle, all able to interchange! could be a scary thought, the pace of that attack would be imence!

People say I'm negative.
What is positive to say right now?
You lot tell me!!
Negativity begins at whl.
For 40 years I've been waiting to win the league.
Every time spurs do something positive a negative pops up straight away.
Come on we are 2 brilliant players including bale to win the league I really really believe it.
That why my frustration turns to negativity because we are so close.

If and when bale goes, he will not to a suarez rooney benteke modric etc. He will keep his mouth shut and do his business in private because he is an honourable man and respects spurs and avb in paticular to much to do that. So stop with the whole he will chuck the toys out of the pram routine.
