I am away and don't know how we got on today, was it a win? {Ed041's Note - got beaten 2-1 but wasnt a bad performance plenty of effort in the team just lacking that striker we need.

Anybody would think that this was the 18th game of the season and we were hovering above relegation!
Facts are facts, very few teams will go to St James Park the season and turn Newcastle over. Today we went out playing a new system that players are still not used to, with a first team that wasnt what AVB wanted to put out ideally (look at his pre match interview ) and we dominated a side for most of the match that is settled and hardly changed from last season. We hit the post, the cross bar and gave away a stupid, stupid penalty. S**t happens. Loads of positives to take away and plenty of blindingly obvious issues to deal with. We will not be the only club in the transfer market up until the window closes so we are hardly unique. It could have been worse, we could have been the Gooners drawing at home to a mid table side or Liverpool watching their brave new World crumble........... Listen, we aint Chelsea, we have more class so lets start showing it, eh? Lets get behind the club and stop whinging. If we are in a bad place come the new year then, fine, doom and gloom all you like......while remembering how the Gooners climbed off the foor last season and 'arry the messiah oversaw our form collapse allowing them to go above us... Funny old game, right?

The positives are, that with a team that has the problems we have had in the close season, new manager, no signing of striker/keeper, the Ratboy Saga and the needless midweek internationals, we still outplayed a very good full strength Newcastle side on their own patch (where I doubt many teams will take Max points this season) and with a little more luck would've come away with at least 1pt, and it is only the first game of the season, keep the faith at least until 1st Sept anyways.

Hey fellow yids. This is my first and perhaps only post (depending on how it's received).... but we finished last season knowing we were losing ade and that two of our keepers were ageing at best. Yet we go out and buy a centre half, all be it he looks good, but with kaboul, Dawson, gallas, caulker, Huddlestone all capable. plus another midfielder who at best looks steady when we do have an abundance. Just seen the game and we lacked an attacking option, I just struggle to understand how the millions of fans can identify our priorities when it comes to new signings and yet as of yet the holes haven't been filled. Us spurs fans have a tendency to dream but what's wrong with that, everyone lives in the gutters but some of us and looking at the stars. Levy.. I know it's a business but sooner or later we must speculate to accumulate surely. Thoughts...... at this moment we struggle as no cl but let's spend, Carroll was pants since joining Liverpool but we took a risk on crouchy and imo he wasn't that bad, plus it looks like he may be the only one willing to come. I do hope I am wrong but time will tell. Be gentle guys

I think we can forget about signing decent names , when Avb picks and plays crap like this . 70 mins gone , not sure if Defoe has even touched the ball , no subs , Vert still on bench even though Gallas looks like what he is , an old cart horse ,and Jenas on the subs bench !!!
What a start , Arry will be laughing his f***ing head off on match of the day tonight . Levy , you are a total s***head for not sorting this out earlier , but then if it all falls flat , its not your head on the block is it . Same old excuses will be trotted out that you used with Arry . Stop penny pinching and invest some decent money otherwise you wont have the supporters to fill that new stadium we are building .

{Ed008's Note - It's the 1st game it shows he's picking players on form or who's impressed him, Vertonghen might have picked up a slight knock at internationals we don't know you clearly dont give anyone a chance! Understandable if they were losing 5-0 like QPR did or Liverpool who got destroyed by West Brom but it's a scruffy game. Back the manager!

When he joined I thought he would be good for Spurs and I hope he proves me right but ;
I have seen , one way or another , all of our pre season games and Gallas , Jenas etc wouldnt have impressed a sunday league manager yet he picks them . Making an error is one thing , being bloody stupid is another !

Well said Ed008, after reading some of the cobblers thats been posted, I feel like, maybe we should all do a mass jumping off a cliff to end it all as, clearly, its all hopeless and there is just no point going on...... : /

Except for the fact Gallas had one of our stronger performances today. Kaboul,and Gallas were pretty solid together last season so i dont see it as a bad decision, conservative perhaps but away up there for first game understandable.

Why? First game od the season against a very settled side at a hostile ground where few teams last season got a result and few this season will. Gallas is a highly experienced centre half, clever enough to work within a still new system and could handle any s**t thrown at him. Vertongen will, probably, make his debut at home next week where he will be infront of 35,000 odd home supporters who will give him the lift he will need for his first "proper" match in the shirt. AVB played it 100% right, why throw a new signing into such a tough first game? VDV/Livermore apart, I dont think he did too much wrong in selecting the side, the season IS a marathon and NOT a sprint and the likes of Gio may well play a part in things as we go. FFS, if last season hasnt taught us anything, nothing will. Give the man some space, time and respect, put the gun away and ask questions first!

Completely agree Davo Parker ain't all that he can't pass more than 10 yards he cant shoot or dribble all of which Sandro has over him. Sandro all the way for me too

Starting XI against Mags. Friedel, Walker, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Huddlestone, Sandro, Sigurdsson, Van Der Vaart, Bale.

Assao- Ekotto (hope I spelled it right) has to go. How many times last season has he been caught out, made suicidal clearances and given away needless penalties. He is the weak link in an otherwise sound defence.

Last season we started without Parker, Modric and Ade, lost 1-8. Sandro available this time, can adjust the shape to try and cover Modric but the striker situation is pretty unforgivable and what we have often done. We'll be the ones paying for that today I would say.
