Bad news is that the Gooners are now in the market for a striker aswell. With Chelsea probably still looking aswell it looks like we may well be left with the crumbs. Although anything would be an improvement on what we have already

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Same way every club would like a striker? no matter which club it is every1 chases good strikers so doesnt matter

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger has said that signing Giroud and Podolski is all the business they'll do in the window on the striker front

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger will sign another striker he always says that he wont sign anybody but he does {Ed055's Note - Only paper talk but people are saying Hernandez from the mancs

Agree0 Disagree0

Probably going to see Defoe start because of his goal tonight

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Or because he is the only striker we got !!

Agree6 Disagree0

15 Aug 2012 20:30:45
This is not a rumour just common sense ok Defoe playing tonight he get's injured who would start up front not using van der vart makes me think we must have a striker ready to be announced after rat boy leaves???
safe bet would be ADE {Ed008's Note - Giovani Dos Santos ?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Please do not attack me over this post. Why are we talking about Hulk/Damaio LLorente etc when the best striker in Europe is going to United for £23million. I know he is a gooner but surely Arses would sooner sell him to us then to their dreaded enemy? Why did we not offer £23 to £25 million for him, a proven PL lethal striker/

The Don

Agree1 Disagree3

We didn't buy him as he would not come and he is 29

Why is everyone saying we have accepted 23.5m for Modric? Are you mad! Trust me Levy would not do this, absolutely no chance.
R.Madrid play the dirtiest out of any team when it comes to transfers, they use Marca to do their dirty work aswell as agents and past players.
I would be shocked if we get anything less than 35m for the RAT if he goes.

spurs guvnor

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Agree 100% with this post. We all must know levy by now but if it is for figure stated, then we are getting moutiinho for 20mill euro or something like that.

Agree2 Disagree0

23.5 plus add ons is 27 million pound quoted which is 34 million euro i think the deal could be worth maybe 30 million pound or more just the press are makeing seem alot smaller den it is,so its its about 30 million pound plus add ons were geting about 37 million euro which 37 million would cover the cost of Llorente maybe? mvilla maybe? loris maybe? remy and gameriz maybe? whos knows but theres something goin on behind the scenes 35 million plus euro we cud get the players we need as long as rat boy is gone and we start doin some decent buisness is the main thing

Agree0 Disagree0

35million euro is great business in my opinion. Just hoping we can get some decent signings in before window closes.
By the way, did you see Verts in midfield tonight. The guy was class.

Agree2 Disagree0

For what it is worth: the Telegraph is now saying that the Modric deal is £30m up front, with a guaranteed rise to £35m and a possible £38m.

As for the £40m that Chelsea supposedly offered last year, that was never verified and almost certainly never happened.

The offer probably included a player-exchange in which Chelsea offered someone they wanted off the books anyway (Benayoun, Alex, Malouda, Kalou etc.) at an inflated nominal price. Levy naturally turned them down.

As we have accepted a deal for about 25mil I take itlevy must have been holding out till he could get some other deals linned up so I am hoping we see a few signings in the next week. Just got to hope!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Hey it not all bad. Man utd just agreed RVP deal. He will be missed by them more than us.
Rooney and van persie up front.......wow!
Well, we got Defoe anyway lol

15 Aug 2012 18:57:46
So we might has well have sold Modric to Chelski anyway for £40million then, we didn't make Champs League and they won it and FA Cup. We've now reportedly taken around mid £20ms when we have no strikers and seem to be trying to spend £18m of it on another enforcer type midfielder?!?!
What the F^c& is going on?!?
If Ade pops up by Saturday and another striker out of Berbs, Huntelaar, Llorente by the 31st then great but it's Wednesday night now so looks like we're 4-6-0 or as good as on Saturday for a start away at Newcastle.
Sorry but even if you're optimistic and positive, you have to recognise this is the worst start for AVB given his past record and the pressure he'll be under from the off if we stall at the start like last year. AVB was a gamble, now we seem to be taking one on the shape of the squad too.
Hope Bale, Rafa and Sig can pop up for us to start with as otherwise we're in trouble.

Glade rat boy has gone for a lot less than u could of had if u let him go to chelsea!! by the way u got no chance getting hulk lets make that clear!pinky

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed008's Note - Any offensive language will get you blocked! Had to delete a reply to this!

Agree1 Disagree0

You sound jealous pinky cos your club couldn't throw enough cash at us to get him. That the way you work isn't it. By the way, I agree with the hulk comment. No chance. Also, that fee was reported by Marca, madrids paper. That is not the fee, im sure of that. Anyway, if we did get 30mill euros, then I'm happy. A nice healthy profit and we move on.
Like most of this deal, including now with Marca, it has all been paper/media talk, so who knows what the actual deal is.
At least we aren't arsenal, selling all their best players to prem rivals.
They have just gauranteed united finish above them next season, like you would of finished above us with modric last season.
That is the real reason you won't get our players.

Agree2 Disagree1

Lets not gforget that we too sold our top players to UTD over the years. By all means laugh at the gooners, they now know how we felt, BUT lets not assume that we would never do that again!
Super Y*d

Agree1 Disagree2

Difference is carsick wasn't our best player by far and we all know the Berba situation.
Anyway, strange comment from a y*d, is that pinky again. Def prob not a y*d anyway

Agree1 Disagree1

^Haha, I love how autocorrect changes Carrick to carsick. Seems oddly appropriate given some of his recent performances

Agree0 Disagree0

Nope, im deffo a yod and people have short memories. Carrick was a top player when he demanded to leave for UTD and so was Berba. You cannot change history, we DID sell top players to them. the fact or rumour that we wouldnt do that anymore doesnt change anything, WW2 happened, the Titanic did sink and we did sell two of our players ( if they were sh*t UTD wouldnt have paid so much for them) to UTD. Fact.

Hello there, Forest fan in peace.
I'm just putting the finishing touches to my fantasy football team (Sly Sports) and I presently have our old boy Dawson in.
Is he going to play? If not im going to have to tinker!
All the best for the seaon ahead {Ed008's Note - I would say Kaboul and Vertonghen will be 1st choice in my eyes...

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dawson won't play and likely to get injured

Agree1 Disagree0

Listen to Ed on this one my fried and you'll be alright. Change him for Vertoghen as he gets goals as well....

{Ed008's Note - Thank you! I have Kaboul in my Sky Sports Fantasy team much cheaper then Vertonghen depends how much money you got left.

Dear ED

I think we need to start a new post to address the scepticism and general fickle behaviour. I am totally appalled that so called Spurs fans are writing anonymous negative posts in droves. The hate Levy brigade seems to have emerged like creeping vines, and the whole tone of the posts is literally strangling any glimmer of optimism.

It is time to stop this negativity, and refrain from quashing ever single optimistic rumour. Start remembering who we are and what journey we have been on. Levy has reformed a sleeping giant that was the laughing stock of the Premiership for over two decades. Why can't people look at the big picture, and acknowledge our success. The FIFA expenditure rules are designed to level the playing field in the future, and should prevent clubs spending millions more than their income would allow.

We have 3 weeks to go and yet our PS3 Championship Manager readers have already closed the window. Let's look at the facts and possible outputs and get a grip of reality here;

1. The club is only 130 years old, and in the last 30 years we have been totally stagnant. Daniel Levy has restored pride and if managed with the same tenacity and financial prudence, we can become great again.

2. Modric will be off for circa £40m or he will stay and play put his remaining 4 years. I cannot see how either option doesn't benefit the club. All Levy has done is ensure that he stays we win, he goes we win. Surely what you would expect of any top quality leader.

3. The striker crisis which I keep hearing is once again totally unsubstantiated. If you are one of the pessimists who has already resigned to no signings, then lets looks at the shape. Perhaps Van Der Vaart and Dos Santos in his more natural position behind Defoe. Hardly a crisis situation when I doubt many don't want to see Dis Santos get a real chance in the team. Enough of pessimism and onto a more optimistic likelihood. Let's put aside rumour and debate and just assume Adebayor and Damiao both sign. How does the team look now for you pessimists?

3. Let's assume Modric does leave for £40m which is looking extremely likely. Moutinho, Dembele, M'Villa as well as others have already been approached. What Levy has done brilliantly is ensure the door stays open should Modric sign for Real Madrid. Do you really believe that Modric will leave and no one of note will sign to replace him?

I am as hungry for success as all of you, but stop thinking running a football plc is easy as stating wishes. It is like telling a morbidly obese homeless person to lose the weight in 12 weeks, get a job and buy a house. All sound simple but it takes alot more in reality. It is easy to look at our beloved club and list the players you want to leave, and those you would sign. In reality contracts and personal terms etc make this far more difficult.

So be patient and have belief that we are very much still on track with our plan. Levy definitely has the clubs best interests at heart, and has all very best contingency plans ready for any outcome. Just wait and see what happens in the next few weeks, and maybe you will share some of my optimism very soon.

The Oracle

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Oracle your wrong again. Modders is going for 27 million. Will you take your, I love levy hat offf plz.he has hired and fire over 4 managers. Introduced a dof: sacked 2 of them. We were bottom 3 when Harry took over. Harry got us into the cl that stopped his getting sacked by joe lewis. We got offered 40mil last season by Chelsea last season. He refused it. Now he excepted 13 mil less. I could write a book but will stop here

Eds,

Am I right to think fair play ruling is in action already? If yes then how can PSG spend £200million in a year?

Naz {Ed002's Note - June 2014 is when they will first look to apply the FFP rules taking consideration of the accounts leading up to it including this year. I would not worry about it just yet.}

Its getting closer to Saturday and we dont look close to signing a top striker, Defoe is good but if we are to challenge for the title we need a world class striker or maybe even two!

Why is everyone criticising Levy for demanding £40 million
lets be honest ANY team wouldnt sell their best player for short of their price! If the Croatia boss was Spurs player he would do the same so dont know why hes opening his moutj. also Jose cant say anything because if anyone was to bid for any of his best players guaranteed he wouldnt sell for short of his valuation!
Still think Levy needs to spend money! thats my only criticism of him!

We ain't going to sign anyone before Saturdays opener.... No midfield or strikers.. Well done Levy you tight git!!

No strikers proven maybe ...no midfield who are you watching .... we are overloaded with midfield players, maybe none the quality of Modric, but the team structure will change to use what we have.

we are all talking about the lack of striker options even if we do sign 1 b4 saturday he wont play against toon i think levi and avb aint panicking as i think we will get it sorted by aug 31 and avb likes the idea of trying bale up top i aint sayin bale should become a striker but if we aint signed a striker avb might use him there for first couple of weeks never know could be a masterstroke bale has every attribute needed to terrorise any defence in the league like everybody else would love to see a new striker asap and keep bale on left but we dont want to panic buy a striker who aint good enough coys bring on the toon

Three days until kick off and sweet football association!! We are gonna have a pants year I fear. I was reading the sun dream team list earlier, we have one striker lol

Billy the yid

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are seeing the price of not having CL football this season. It appears many of our targets are looking to move only to teams in the CL, though of course that could be negotiating for higher wages also. As it stands AVB doesn't exactly appear to have the odds stacked in his favor ...striker issue, Modric seemingly on his way and Levy doesn't want to pay for Moutinho who AVB wants. Only time will tell.

15 Aug 2012 13:21:16
Those arsenal fans are a funny bunch getting over excited about signing players that the majority of their supporters hadn't heard of 6 months ago, carzorla is no where near being world class, giroud had one good season in a week French league and poldolski is so good that he was part of a team that was relegated last season, so basicly they have signed a French grant holt and a german yakubu, us yids should be quaking in our boots....

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Funny thing is they were all wanted by different factions of spurs fans too.

Agree1 Disagree2

All 3 would walk in to our side I fear

Agree4 Disagree0

All of them would easily get into the spurs side and now that modric is gone im sure spurs need someone like cazorla

I am starting to believe that our transfer business is nearly done.

I think we will take Adebeyor before Saturday and use defoe and kane for backup.

Think Dos Santos will be given a few games to shine and see how he gets on.

And then when and if Modders goes to Madrid maybe we will get moutinho..

I then think January could be a big window for us

NorthernSpur

Believable0 Unbelievable2

But we've been saying that he next window will be big for us ever since Berbatov and Robbie left (the first time). £30million and £20million we got for them - £50million in total. ask yourself this, How much of it was reinvested?? How much of he Carrick money the year before? How much of the Champions League prize money was reinvested? I dont remeimber Saha and Nelson costing £35million (do you?). Now apply the same answer to the Modric money. Levy WON'T put it all back in - he never has, why start now????

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2012 11:55:49
I'm not sure about anyone else but my early optimism about this season has turned into a wee bit of panic... it seems likely when I take my seat for Norwich game we may only have JD & Kane as recognised strikers... if any other 'top 6' side were in the same position we would be laughing at them. I'm Put it this way... I'd even welcome Pav back with open arms at the moment... Dear Mr Levy, please buy us x2 strikers or we will be mid table obscurity next season!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2012 11:20:28
Does anybody in their right mind agree with us wasting time and money on the M'Vila deal when we have no stirkers? I'm sorry but Defoe and Kane and even Rafa do not class as strikers. Without Ade last year we were mostly toothless, we had our moments of drought even with him. Saha was only very brief respite for odd flashes at best. We are in deep trouble if this is not resolved and, as much as Levy does a great job for the club, you can't start a season this way yet again like we're now going to so who's fault is it? Yes the transfer market is nuts because of greedy players/agents and stupid money from the rich-kids at Chelski, Schitty and the really historic top clubs (Utd, Real, Barca) but, it is what it is and they are still only a few clubs - not everybody can play for them or play Champions League. Newcastle found Cisse, have got Podolski and Giroud, even QPR have put together Johnson, Zamora and Cisse so they have some options! Unless we have Ade by Saturday and another decent striker by the end of the window it is a massive fail.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2012 09:36:37
Is everyone else as fed up with this transfer window as i am, what started off so well and with so much promise has now turned into a joke.
If JD gets injured tonight in what can only be described as a useless international friendly. The Newcastle game is going to be a real test.

Part of me thinks that Levy has something planned, but part of me thinks that we are done in this window and have missed out due to try to have money here and there.

I must keep faith but im sure im not the only one who is annoyed at our current predicament!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2012 23:38:03
This has got to be the most frustrating transfer window in a good few years. I was expecting AVB to be given funds to build on last years success (which in my opinion it was). He has a tough job to fill Harry's boots. Admitedly Harry probably had taken us as far as he could but the pressure is certainly on. Please Mr Levy, give AVB some money or hold your tongue if we start poorly. I for one won't blame AVB if we do.
