We seem to have a problem with helping new signings settle at the club, Rebrov was a class player before he came to us, now look at lamela international player seen by many as the future of the Argie team, coulibally reckoned to be the new drogba, even bostock was due to be the next big thing and what's happened to them? And then there's taarabat the new zidane? Rebrov would score one game and be dropped the next shattering his confidence, coulibally has been shipped off to seria b and bostock disappeared without a trace. Other clubs seem able to settle new or foreign players especially big money signing better than us. So is this something the club should be looking at? Would love to see lamela get a run he seemed to be building up an understanding with soldado and then gets dropped, let's put him on the wing and play eriksen as no10 behind bobby! And let them interchange. How is he going to improve if he doesn't get a run of games or are we trying to ruin his confidence as we did with Rebrov? Even play lamela as no10 he's played there before, adebywhore shouldn't be allowed to wear the shirt inmo the 5-0 tweet was the last straw for me! Rant over!

In principal, I agree with you, but I think the specific cases you mention are all different.

The truth about Rebrov is that he was never as good as he seemed at Kiev. He was so poor for us that it became hard to justify playing him. When he went out on loan, he struggled just as badky and after we released him, he flopped at West Ham. Then he returned to the Ukraine and was immediately voted their player of the year (as a midfielder). I guess that says something about the strength of their league at that time.

John Bostock was just another highly-regarded youngster who never fulfilled his early promise. If I had a pound for every ‘new George Best’ I have heard about over the years I would have quite a few more pounds than I have now. He is now in the Belgian Second Division, so we are not the only club that has failed to get him performing.

Taraabt is even more frustrating. Harry once said that he was the most naturally gifted player at the club but had never been taught how to play football. It seems he still hasn’t learned.

I don’t know much about Coulibaly.

Even so, I can't aregue against your basic point. Our record of bringing players into the Premiership is poor. In fact, without Berbatov and Modric, it would be wretched.

Similarly, we haven’t produced a really top class player from our Academy since Ledley King.

These are areas where we desperately need to improve.
