I was in amazement that we signed Gilfi and Jan quite quickly against the normal Spurs tradition of leaving it till the last minute BUT as it stands now we are still in DESPERATE need of a WORLD CLASS striker.

I have to wonder if its DL's stance on our very own Luka Modric that is holding up proceedings...

By this I mean that any potential targets are looking at our club and thinking Yes Spurs are a great side but regularly fail to live up to the hype and finish off with the goods, so therefore if I join and we win something then all is good, However if all ends as usual and Spurs fail again to deliver silverware, I will be held to RANSOM over a fee that no-one can afford.

Thus avoiding signing for our beloved club. So what do you think?

I honestly believe we need a MARQUEE signing and definitely before we kick a ball in our first game against the Magpies...

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Whats with the CAPITALS? To highlight the bleeding obvious?

Agree0 Disagree1

I am extremely concerned with the striker situation & am not impressed by the signings so far. If you consider Ledley & Modric, replaced by sigurdsson & vertonghen...

I think it is an artistic interpretation thing

I think we will sign lloris this weekend.

Sturridge this weekend.

And a striker, im hoping dimiao, but it might be carrol with the rumours im hearing now.

Also been hearing butland with loaning him back to birmingham for a year also.

In my opinion (probably false but....) i think modric is already sold, but real madrid and spurs have agreed to keep this quiet as if clubs know we need a replacement, then price goes up n vice versa for real with people will bid less for kaka and sahin as they are not only not needed but more of, they must be sold as they are now a problem because of excessive wage.

Naz

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Well, OL playing tomoro in ligue 1, so if your theory is correct, then lloris won't be playing.

Agree1 Disagree1

Forgot... Ade. It's out of ade, dimiao and carrol

Naz

Agree0 Disagree0

Football is a small community if Moderic had been sold there is no way that the agents or indeed other players wouldnt be aware and from then on it would spread like wildfire.
Irrespective any club selling to Spurs will want top dollar for the talk about a transfer pot will be enough to drive up prices.

Agree0 Disagree1

Lloris did not play today for Lyon......

Coubily (spelling) just scored again at Southend.
I'm hoping he gets first team experience this season.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2012 20:40:00
Coulibaly scores again. I dont care about his age, experience blah blah blah its simple this lad scores goals. If you dont buy a raffle ticket you dont win anything, take a gamble it might be the answer. Levy n co grow some balls.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

If only every team in the prem were as bad as Southend.

Agree1 Disagree1

We've signed no strikers as every1 keeps banging on about. So who's to say they haven't missed out on his quality?? They know more than we do about him anyway.
Maybe there balls are at bursting point!!

Agree1 Disagree0

Kane scored a hat trick in this game, yet people are writing him off! Typical.

Agree0 Disagree0

So by this logic if a 40 year old was banging in 50 a season for a Pub team we should sign them up

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2012 20:25:15
Can anyone tell me why we are the only team not signing anyone.
7 days to go till kick off and still no strikers on the way.
We can't blame Harry now, enic/levy will have a lot to answer too if no one comes in.
If no one signs the it's one of 2 reasons, either their targets are unrealistic at what we will pay
Or
They are selling. I know we have 3 weeks window left, but, we could be major points behind and our season could be stuffed by October.
We have quality in our build up but Defoe alone is not good enough
Come on levy, this is getting depressing now.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Neither are Sunderland. Hope to get Defoe if you get the forwards you are after. Dave 100% mackem

Agree0 Disagree1

If we get the forwards we are after, then I will drive him there myself.

Agree0 Disagree0

Something is happening, why would Sunderland even think they could get Defoe if it wasn't known we had something lined up ?

Firstly congratulations to Livermore and Caulker on their England call ups. Caulker is going to be immense.
Onto the age old debates of Modric and our striker situation. Modric IMO will now stay until Januartu at the very least, with DL holding out for 40m, however i think it would be best to sell him for an acceptable price now as I don't think he will play any real part for Spurs this year and if sold in Jan his price will surely be lower than what is being offered now!

Strikers - with Damaio now being out of reach to pretty much everybody barring the Chavs, ManCs, Real Madrid, Barcelona and the Milans, who do we turn our attention to?. Got a horrible feeling it will be Ade, really hope it isn't though. I would like to see a £12m bid for sturridge and a £16-18m bid for KJH, I think these 2 with what we have would put us in a very good position squad wise. If Modric leaves before 11.59pm 31st August 2012, then in addition to these 2 I would also like to see another winger signed (one who can play both wings) ascompetition for Lennon and as for cover for Bale, not ure whose available someone like Affelay would be grate and if KJH signs him and VDV we would have a real dutch theme going on.

Come On DL get it sorted FFS, times ticking and we are already falling behind, we need to start the season with a bang.

THFC4EVER

Believable2 Unbelievable0

KJH and Affelay I'd like to see, Selfish sturidge not so much.

I'm an Arsenal fan but am interested to know - what's the current feeling among Spurs fans about the Luka Modric situation - will he stay or go? What do you all think? Do you think if you took the squad as it currently is into the Premier League season then you'd get top four football?

GM7

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My feeling is modric will stay. Levy and Madrid are both as stubborn as each other. Levy will not back down and our squad is lacking up front. We need to sort that before the season starts but it will be hard. I'm liking the fact internacional have just signed another striker, it may free up DAMAIO now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly how the squad stands without a striker we will be maybe top 6
However If we sign someone prolific....
Kjh and the ilk ... Then we will push top 3-4 again with yourselves ... And it will be again a very close season

Agree0 Disagree0

Dreamer so chelsea wont be challenging then

Agree1 Disagree0

Its quite depressing that he is leaving. We look far weaker than last season without Harry, Ledley & assuming Modric departs. The two signings are not great & were not of interest to the likes of Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea & Man C. Unless we pull our finger out, I cant seee us challenging for a top four place, as the others above us have stregthened their squads, except City who have a very strong squad without any signings.

So many haters ..... -_-

Just because DL hasn't been stupid like some clubs and splurge doesn't mean guys that he's screwing us over ....

VDV - top class player got for a very small fee in comparison to what he's worth

Jan vertonghen - another smart low cost transfer ...

Siggs ... Will be a great player low cost hassle free

Coulibaly - looks a awesome prospect

Sandro - a great destroyer

These are all signings DL has all done personally now tell me again he's terrible
And he's not thinking of the club
.... Yes we need a striker
Yes we needed it last year or the year before ..... However the situation we are in now you are all panicking I'm a little nervous granted but DL is a man who is also feeling this as why should he throw more money than we need to at a player ?? Are we city or Chelsea ? No we aren't get real guys he is truly a great chairman and I bet you he will be sorting us a nice new striker out very very soon
In DL,AvB and spurs I trust

Bear yid

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Yes , he has got some stonking buys in the past , and he is a good chairman but now his hard dealing is coming back to bite him and us on the ARSE !! To get CL football you have to invest . Its now time to clear out the crap , gallas , bentley , jenas etc for what ever price we can get even if its pennies ! Tell any club that this is Modders price , it stands for the next 5 days only so put up or sod off . Dont waste our money on Ade the mercenary , as he has proved that he doesnt care who he plays for as long as his pocket is filled . If he wanted to play for us , he wouldnt be f***ing about trying to screw everyone for as much as he can get .
We are desperate for a top striker , Defoe isnt good enough so even if its our only major purchase , spend some bloody money DL , please . Now , not on the last day as usual . By the time deadline day is here , we could be in the bottom three yet again , AVB will get the blame , when we all will know whose fault it is !!! We can do well with our existing squad once the crap is cleared and at least one GOOD striker is brought !!
Davo

Agree1 Disagree0

I do agree with you somewhat .... Although Ade as much as he is a merc .... He's still a improvement on what we have and I wouldnt mind seeing him back ...

Agree1 Disagree0

Right now it's hard not to think of too many strikers that would be an improvement on where we are currently to be fair.

Everyone moaned saying HR cost us by leaving transfer targets to late to try n get cheap deals well HR gone n transfer deals still being made in same manner proves that this has always been down to t*** levy he is amoron who is making spurs a laughing stock at the crap offers he makes for players so when its all going tits up will he turn on AVB the same as he has past managers to cover his tight spending ass either make serious offers levy or leave the lane for some one who has the club at heart

What does everyone think about Ki of Celtic as a possible Modric replacement? Haven't heard of any interest but he looks a good player without a ridiculous price tag like Moutinho. I know the SPL isn't the best, but as we saw with Jelavic in January there is some real quality in the league at good prices.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Seen him play for Celtic a few times he's not a world class player not even close

Regardless of whether we think they're good enough or not, Livermore and caulker in the England squad is significant as they are the first academy players to play for England since Ledley. Another interesting point: of the whole 2010 U-19s England squad that went to the euros, caulker is the first to play for England. Expecting big things from him

I'm clucking more by the day and not like a proud cockerel, like a crazy one that knows it's in for a hard time. If we don't get a decent striker in (two in reality for the whole season, one will not be enough) then we are in deep trouble. If we are planning before the end of the window rather than the start of the season, that is another big mistake that we should've learned last year having been whacked 3-0 and 5-1 in our first two games without the new signings we needed - could argue that cost us 3rd as much as the poor New Year run!
If there is no 'live' plan in place that's close then we can't and won't afford to splash £20m+ on a gamble so it's do the Ade deal however we can, get Berbs back on a 2yr deal for £5m and a decent wage OR go for Huntelaar at a realistic £18m, not trying to never get him by offering £12-14m. Must be done or it's going to be a long season chasing the top five or six and the AVB appointment will be an immediate carve up. The above actually matters more than whether Modric stays or goes and even if he's not replaced directly we have a lot of midfield options.
4-6-0 with a high back-line anybody.....?!

He's in an England squd picked by Roy Hodgson, nothing to shout about really.

the manager would select the squad.. is kinda his job..

The difference is Fergie is a good manager whos opinions of players actually matter. Unlike Roy, who is just a joke.

I actually am starting to believe no big names will come in this summer, I've been optimistic up until now but seems Levy playing hard ball over Modric is hindering the progression of the club, The reasons for this are 1.Real Madrid have put in an acceptable offer for a player who does not want to be at the club and will not give his all for us another season, people say he's signed to a long contract but this does not make a player give his all 2. Players will look at the way Levy deals with transfer situations and would most probably be put off with thought of having to go through this to get a move away 3. Having a good working relationship with a club like Real Madrid would help us alot but Levy is breaking this

Just my thoughts

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Agree with what say been thinking the same for a while teams are adopting the same attitude levy may now have to pay over the odds for a striker..
what happens if modders refuses to play and goes on strike because he was priced out of a move he is a gd player not worth 40 mill though..
can spurs afford to have 30 mills worth of talent not available to them it also dictates who you can or cannot sign due to the transfer budget and you point if you sign for u aint leaving unless someone offers silly money levy feels he has to make money on every sale

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2012 11:43:57
Stop speculating over big money moves, we all know levy is a tight arse. we will be lucky to sign one bog standard goalscorer and thats it. we all know damiao wont happen.

Last night a better team did the same thing to us.
Play like that against Newcastle and we will be in bundles

Why is everyone getting bent up over a preseason friendly? The players and staff see these games as training, do u really think jeans and jake will be our central midfielders? Once our squad is fully assembled then we be fine. Didn't we smash Roma five nil at the lane a few years back and end up bottom at Xmas?? In AVB I trust.

Don't understand some of the negativity on here towards the possible signing of Sturridge. IMO he has great potential (quick, tall, skilled, good finisher and can see a pass) and would come at a good price. People forget he scored 8 in 12 playing as a central striker for Bolton at the back end of the season before last, and got 11 goals last season from a wide area, and in spite of the fact he was ostricised by Di Matteo at the back of end of the season. Him, Adebayor and a Modric replacement would put us in great stead for next season.

Tonight was by far our best test against an average european team in valencia and we lost 2-0 hmmmmm. Time for concerns??? This is the time when it does not matter but a time to gel the team. So can't be happy that we have no striker or strikers in to give them time.
Mr g
In levy I DON'T trust

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Average European team? Mate theyre consistently in the knockout cl rounds, and they're the best team in Spain outside the big 2. Our biggest trouble was we had no true defensive destroyer protecting the back 4, but that will change when Sandro comes back

Watching the Valencia Vs Spurs game and I am in shock. First 20 mins we were ok then they scored an amazing goal from about 25 yards.

Now we seem to have NO formation what so ever, they are constantly getting in behind us and most of our players seem to be running all over the place.

This does not look good for the start of the season. now I am really worried for our club....We need to get something sorted ASAP...
