A lot of you aren't going to like this.

I think we've done some of the best transfer business in the league. We've moved on a player who wanted out for huge money, and we've kept our best players. We haven't spent silly money on players that aren't worth it (remember when Sissoko at 30 mil seemed like a lot of money? ) .

If we make a couple of intelligent signings I'll be delighted. If we don't, I'll be pleased we've got the squad we have.

Spud

1.) 17 Aug 2017 12:46:43
Problem is Spud, the squad isn't big enough.

Yes we have kept the squad together, which is great, yes we got good money for an average full back who wanted out, but we have also got rid of several other fringe/ loan players and have not replaced any of them, with todays demands of 4 competitions you require good strength in depth and this is something we seriously lack. We do need signing to keep the squad fresh and the players fight for the places.

I would like to Sanchez, Suarez and Demari Gray come in, but cannot see any of them signing and we will end up with basement bargain buys yet again stinking of last minute panic buys.

2.) 17 Aug 2017 14:15:01
We're a bit light, but not desperately. I make our squad out to be as follows:

GK - 3 (Inc 1 Youth)
LB - 3 (Inc 1 youth)
CB - 4 (Inc CCV, not inc. Dier)
RB - 2 (weak here)
CM/ DM - 5 (inc 1 youth)
AM/ Wing - 7 (inc 1 youth)
S - 3 (inc 1 youth)

I don't count Dele or Son as strikers. I count Dier as a CM.

I reckon a CB, a RB and a striker for Cover is all we need. I've only gone 1 deep into the youth set up, too. We have a talented youth team. We're not going to get anyone who will instantly be in the first team - I'm worried by Aurier. I think he's trouble. I'd sooner take someone less skillful with less hassle - someone who is happy to rotate with Trip and KWP.

3.) 17 Aug 2017 14:29:17
To buy there needs to be squad places available!

4.) 17 Aug 2017 19:58:04
Thfc4ever you do make a fool of yourself, so walker is just average is he? The same walker you lot was claiming "the best right back in the premier league" funny how you now see it different lmao ๐Ÿ˜‚.

5.) 17 Aug 2017 20:56:07
We have a very good first 11 but one of the poorest benches in the top half of the league, our problems have been when a few first team players gets injured we have no cover.

6.) 18 Aug 2017 09:40:37
If we start a full strength team like this:
--------------Loris--------------
-------Toby----Dier----Jan-------
Tripp------------------------Rose
-------Dembele------Wanyama------
--------------Eriksen------------
-------Kane---------Dele---------

Then our bench as it stands would be:
Vorm
Wimmer/ Sanchez (if he's coming)
Kyle Walker-Peters
Winks
Son
Lamela
Janssen

Weakest bench in the top half of the league? I disagree. Not as strong as city, chelsea or utd, but apart from that I think you're hard pushed to find a better bench. Obviously that's if everyone is fit, which they're unlikely to ever be.

But I've omitted:
Georges Kevin Nkoudou
Sissoko
Ben Davies
CCV
The whole academy.

7.) 18 Aug 2017 10:12:12
Oddbod, how do I make a fool of myself? a supposed Arsenal fan who is constantly trolling Spurs fans on a Spurs site! now that is making a fool of yourself. And if you ever read my posts I have never rated Kyle Walker very highly, good player mayve worth ยฃ50m+ NEVER. He has never been consistant enough, has had way to many injuries, is to dependant on his pace to get out of trouble, these are the issues I have had with Walker for a fair while, his pace will start to slow and his defenesive fralities will start ot become apparant to others who do not watch him regularly. IMO we sold him at the right time for a over inflated price.

8.) 18 Aug 2017 11:01:47
Look at Liverpool's bench in the last match:

1 Loris Karius GK
12 Joe Gomez CB
17 Ragnar Klavan CB
16 Marko Grujic CM
7 James Milner CM
27 Divock Origi CF
29 Dominic Solanke CF

Or even Chelsea

1 Willy Caballero GK
27 Andreas Christensen CB
16 Kenedy LB
31 Fikayo Tomori CB
36 Kyle Scott CM
9 รlvaro Morata CF
17 Charly Musonda Jr. LW

United have a strong bench, for sure. As do City. But I'm not worried. So do Spurs. We do have a smallish squad, but we really only need 3 players to come in as cover and we're set.

9.) 18 Aug 2017 14:45:38
Spud apart from son on the bench the rest are bang average, I can guarantee you arsenal, Liverpool, Everton etc have all better benches than us.

10.) 18 Aug 2017 16:00:33
I disagree with you raver, for the reasons that I've said above. You think Liverpool's bench is better than Spurs? You think Lamela is bang average? You think Winks is bang average? Vorm? Nah. Everton's Bench at their last match?

22 Maarten Stekelenburg GK
30 Mason Holgate CB
6 Phil Jagielka CB
21 Muhamed Besic DM
26 Tom Davies CM
29 Dominic Calvert-Lewin SS
12 Aaron Lennon RW.

11.) 18 Aug 2017 16:10:14
The only reason Chelsea and Liverpool have weak benches at the moment is they have top players injured.

12.) 18 Aug 2017 16:32:56
Chelsea have Hazard and Bakoyako out. So If hazard was in I guess Boga would drop to the bench on the basis that he started against burnley, and I don't think we can call Bakoyako a top player yet. It's still not a great bench.

Liverpool have more injuries, yes - Lallana, Clyne, Coutinho, Sturridge and Ings. Lallana and Clyne would arguably start, Coutinho definitely would. So yes, they have a better bench than us arguably. I was disagreeing with you because you said we have one of the worst benches in the top ten. That's just not true. Arsenal, Liverpool, United and City have a better bench (provided everyone's fit) , but I don't know what you expect. Us to sign a superstar to warm the bench?

13.) 18 Aug 2017 18:51:32
I'm hoping Spurs sign the raver as I always give 100 per cent, once I've took my multi vitamins I run all day long and I have one lethal right foot as I've put many windows through behind the goals at the dog and gun.

14.) 18 Aug 2017 20:30:44
Come on raver, that bench Spud put up there ain't average. A few more players added this window and we are right up there trust me.

15.) 18 Aug 2017 21:27:23
Agree Ellis I've had two many liquid refreshments in Essex this afternoon and I'm talking crap.

We win 6-0 in an FA Cup quarter final and people moan because Kane picked up an injury? Ever thought that maybe Poch picked Harry to start because he's in excellent form, and he wanted to keep that up? If he had known he was going to get injured, he wouldn't be a football manager, he'd be a trillionaire commodities broker with a crystal ball. We're second in the league, we're in the FA cup semi final and we just won 6-0 without our leading goalscorer. BACK THE SODDING GAFFER.

Spud

1.) 14 Mar 2017 17:56:56
Spot on spud and I fully agree with you, the Kane injury could have happened in training or even in the house I've known footballers to fall over kids toys etc. I'm glad poch went full strength as we are now in the semi-finals, I've been one of pochs biggest critics but he is definitely taking us upwards and we are now mixing it again with the big clubs. Do we want to go back to the old days of the 90s when we were fighting relegation and had manager after manager and was getting smashed on a regular basis.

2.) 14 Mar 2017 19:32:20
Disagree Spud. We have only one top class striker. Why expose him to every available minute of football when statistically the risk of injury increases the more you play. My point was, that we should beat Milwall easily without Kane. Actually, we beat them 6-0 without him. Are you advocating that we never rest our star players? even when we are playing a team 2 divisions below us? On that basis, you must have been very pissed when Poch rested so many players against Dortmund last year when we were playing Chelsea the following Sunday? Why did Dembele not play against Milwall? I would suggest it was for the very reason I was suggesting Kane should not have played ie. rest/ protect one of our most important players.
Team rotation is accepted in the modern game and last Sunday was an ideal opportunity to rest some players. That is my opinion and you have yours. By the way I am fully behind the "gaffer" . Think he is one of the best managers we have ever had, just think he makes some baffling decisions from time to time.

3.) 14 Mar 2017 19:32:24
Poch has done a terrific job at Spurs anyone who claims he hasn't. Clearly hasn't a clue!

4.) 15 Mar 2017 09:48:09
Fair enough Pauli, I'm perfectly happy to agree to disagree! I know a huge part of football is fans claiming to know football better than the manager and the players themselves, and long may that continue because it's great value, but Poch picking his best striker in an FA cup quarter final against a team that fights doggedly and had already kicked out two PL teams seems pretty unbaffling to me! Of course we rest players - it makes perfect sense to rest players. Poch rested Walker and Dembele and that's completely sensible. Poch felt like resting Harry wasn't necessary, and probably would have pulled him off after an hour if the game had been put to bed, and no-one would be moaning. To lay into the manager because a player gets injured, that to me is baffling!

5.) 15 Mar 2017 13:27:53
Football opinions are like bum holes everyone's got one.

6.) 15 Mar 2017 14:41:27
Raver,
There difference is, you talk through yours ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

7.) 15 Mar 2017 18:16:17
And the difference with you, is that you like licking them ๐Ÿ˜.

8.) 15 Mar 2017 21:14:47
Raver you'll get Oddbod excited with talk like that ๐Ÿ˜.

9.) 15 Mar 2017 21:22:11
Dags, the difference is you have it in your football club name!

10.) 15 Mar 2017 21:48:10
Ellis Dee reminds me of harry Kane he always finishes everything off, I agree Ellis with all this bum talk as wodbod will definitely be getting all worked up hearing the raver talk like this.

11.) 15 Mar 2017 22:22:07
What are you boys like? ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

Lots of negativity in the air after the weekend - let's keep a few things in perspective.

We lost 2 - 0 against Liverpool at Anfield. We have a terrible record at Anfield. Anfield is usually a difficult place for any team in Europe to travel to and win. We didn't.

We played probably the worst first half of football that I've seen from a Spurs team for at least a season - we could (should? ) have been battered - we weren't, at least as far as the scoreline was concerned.

We couldn't field our strongest team. Apart from Liverpool's centre-back pairing, they could.

We are SECOND in the league (albeit for now) and we've not been playing particularly well for the last 4 games or so. I'm not saying that we should be over the moon to be second, because we're huge club with huge ambitions, but I strongly believe that this is a fantastic time to be a Spurs fan. Let's be grateful for what we've got and get behind the team at every possible opportunity! We've been beaten 2 - 0 by Liverpool - dust off, train hard and move on. How any Spurs fan can call Poch a shambles even if he is losing as completely beyond me!

The end of this season is going to go OFF. 4 teams in the scraps for 2nd place, and we're the ones sitting there right now, with arguably 2 of the league's best defenders to come back from injury.

LET'S KEEP OUR CHINS UP AND KEEP SINGING LOUDER THAN ANY SUPPORTERS IN LONDON.

COYS.

I can't believe some Spurs fans are slating poch, by far the best manager you have had in decades, doing much better than what was expected and you slate him? Absolutely deluded, your NOT Man Utd or Arsenal who are expected to challenge for the title, some of you need a reality check!

Totally agree with you Dags. That's so sad Raver. Spurs are your team. Sort it out. I'm guessing you'd have been one of unfortunately many "supporters" destroying Danny Rose when he came back from Sunderland and wasn't yet attracting attention from other clubs. Who needs enemies when you got fans like these?

Kane Scored 29 out of 86 goals last season for Spurs. He did this in 29 appearances. That's 33% of Spurs goals from Kane.

Sanches scored 24 out of 77 goals last season for Arsenal. He did this in 36 appearances. This is about 31%.

Both teams rely on their key strikers for about a third og their goals. This shouldn't be a surprise. Without Kane, Spurs still had 57 goals in the PL season. This is more than every team in the league apart from Everton, United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool.

Without Sanchez, Arsenal scored 53 goals. The fact is both teams rely on their biggest goal scorers.

NO $H1T SHERLOCK.

Totally disagree with you there Raver.

Son is direct, pacey, skillful and can finish. He can play on either flank, number 10 or up front in a deeper lying role. He also doesn't demand to play week in, week out. Any club in Europe would have him.

Dier has a lot of potential - I've already said that if we took 60 mil for him I'd be fine with that, but he clearly isn't bang average. His role on a pitch is rarely going to see him win MOTM awards or have much in the way of a highlight reel but he's a classic example of a player who enables other players to flourish.

As for Eriksen, we'd have been 23 goals worse off last season without him. He's still only 25 years old, his best football is ahead of him.

As for the youth, if Winks, Onomah, Edwards, and Walker Peters to name but 4 don't excite you, then why are you following Spurs, or football at all? They're young skillful energetic players - how have they already disappointed you?!

I totally agree with you TTID. We've got some brilliant youth coming through - they need a chance.

Who here would you replace:
Lloris
Rose
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Dier
Wanyama
Dembele
Eriksen
Son
Alli
Kane

You want Aubameyang? Fine, Son and Alli will get less game time. Great. He'll also shatter the wage structure, and you can forget about Keziah Stirling getting any football.

You want Lemar? Same situation. You want Herrera? Fine, Harry Winks is going to love that.

We don't need marquee signings. We need depth and youth.

Me too, I'll be near my normal seat.

I think we'll struggle. The larger pitch suits BVB's quick, direct style but I think Davinson Sanchez could bring something to the match and the side that brings us up to another level of solidity. Jan, Toby and Davinson all at CB with Dier offering his cool head and defensive mentality can make us terrifically solid. We'll miss Dele tonight, but Son will be eager to show off what he can do against German opposition.
