Better news on the way for us fans with nije signs a 5 year contract. Also berahinho and bolasie will join in the next 2weeks all we need then is 1 top midfielder and that will be enough for us to hit the top 4.

dont think so Raver. Same again this season. Leaking goals to inferior opposition. 2 up at home to Stoke and very lucky not to lose! Unless we sign a top class defensive midfielder, we can forget about it. Finally, If Kane does not bang in the goals like he did last year, I would be very worried about where we will finish
Porch needs to instal a killer instinct in to his teams. One gets the impression that they are not that bothered about the result. Very few premiership teams come to mind who would be 2 up against Stoke at half time, playing at home, and be lucky to draw 2-2. I am bitterly disappointed.

Second game and the boo boys are already out. We totally dominated the game and without Butland's brilliance it would have been 4-0 at half time.

Alderweireld gave away a soft penalty, and the Potters pulled of the nick and run master plan. We have sold £43.8m and only spent £18m until now. N'Jie, Berahino and Bolaise all look likely, and I think a CDM will also join when you look at the massive wage bill savings we have made in addition.

Having options like Chadli, Eriksen, Dembele, Bolaisse and Berahino, N'Jie, Lamela and others behind Kane would be awesome. Would love to see us challenge but the youthful aspect of our squad will take this year to really gel.

Dier as CDM looks perfect as he has everything from pace to an eye for goal. I would love to to see Dier & Eriksen deep, Berahino LM, Chadli CAM and Bolaisse RM with Kane up front. Eriksen is world class and he showed his deep passing ability today when he released Chadli and others with sublime passing. He can still be our set piece specialist and learn to control the game alongside a speedy talented CDM like Dier.

Second game and already the deluded boys are out. I appreciate optimism but let's have a pinch of salt with it.

As far as I am aware, and I am sure many of you will correct me if I am wrong-but N'jie is more of a winger and his stand out attribute is his pace-not goalscoring so with the exception of Chadli, Kane and Eriksen (mainly from DFK's) goals are still a problem-the same as last season. Kane had a good season last year, but should he fail to replicate and to a degree carry us like he did we will struggle.
I am not so sure Berahino is the answer I've been largely unimpressed with him when I've seen him play, but he is young so I am more than happy to revise my opinion and give him time should we sign him for a decent figure. Bolaisse is half decent but the figures being thrown around for him are outrageous.

I think you are getting a little carried away Audere Est Facere-Eriksen has the potential to be world class but to label him that at this stage is absurd. I think he has a habit of disappearing in games (cue stats on his last minute goals last season).

I can only question our scouting network or lack thereof; also I think that we are firmly on course to have a new manager for the next transfer window.

Second game and the boo boys are already out, support at its highest level.

Typical of a doom and gloom monger that we regularly see in the ranks of a spurs fan. The base of our team is looking promising and only the lack of a strikeforce is missing yet you search and find any reason to be negative, well done.

Have you also written Chelsea off this season as clearly their season is also over already? You call yourself the realist but obviously lack the ability to be realistic.

Audere, I for one appreciate the optimism you show and it's good to hear comments from a supporter rather than a "fan" who clearly is unable to see what a great team Tottenham are.

agree with the realist. You say that all we are short is a striker? Our midfield gives little or no protection to the back four. Read Toby's comments about Southampton last season. We had one of the worst goals against in the premiership last season. Putting Toby in instead of Dier will not change that if we do not provide cover to the back four. We need 3 good signings, a striker, a defensive midfielder and a winger. Then we may have a chance of top four. Bent eke was made for us but Daniel was too tight to splash the cash.
Has anyone done a tot on our sales V purchases of players over the last 18 months? Unless I am wrong we are showing a surplus of £14 million and that is with Lennon/ Townsend and possibly Lamela still to be sold. Levy has no intention of spending the required money to make the top four so we better be happy with 6 - 8 th place. Hope I am proved wrong.
Finally, It is unfair to criticise someone who has a "realistic" opinion just because you are a super optimist. We are all true Spurs fans.

{Ed008's Note - Levy spent the money, well Baldini sanctioned the transfers actually two season's back. That was the push for Tottenham to make Top 4. Unfortunately the club need to recover the costs from those flop signings with Eriksen the only player proving himself. Everyone knows this, it's been repeated for months now. Pochettino knew this coming into the job and he was up for the challenge.

I am not sure how it can be interpreted as doom and gloom and I am certainly not a monger. As a "fan" I have merely remarked on what I feel has been a neglected and obvious problem-I agree with Pauli there are other areas that need to be tweaked in fact I think there are several areas. As mentioned on this forum by someone previously the writing was on the wall for Adebayor for a while-we knew if we could recoup some money for Soldado he would also be on his way and to rely on a player that was an unknown quantity and third choice in Poch's view last season is naive to say the least in my eyes.

I think it is quite evident that we did make the push as Ed stated, but it is also apparent that we are taking a backseat this season. While I am not a Poch fan, its by no means a witch hunt on my part; my view is based on Levy's historical behaviour and should we fail to pick up some points in the next few games he will be under immense pressure.

Whether you like my opinions or not I am a realist-I admire your optimism but its all about managing expectations-come the end of the season you will be discussing what might have been if we signed X, Y, Z (like I was under Arry when we acquired Saha and Nelson when we were on the cusp) Nothing would give me greater satisfaction than seeing Spurs succeed, but I just can't see it, I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you all to tears discussing all aspects of the club, from the competitions we are in, to the mindset of fans. With any large collective of people there are always going to be differing opinions-I however will not go down the route of calling you less of a fan because we have incompatible stances; but thank you for clearing up the difference between a "supporter" and a "fan" it was enlightening.

So realist what is your expectations for this season? You make good points but I can only assume you are expecting a top 4 finish this Year otherwise you'd see our team is just a striker away from being good enough.

I don't disagree that further signings would improve our chances of finishing higher (not guarantee them though) but my point about being good enough is still correct for finishing top 6, would you not agree?

My point about being a supporter isn't a lesson I'm not here to teach you anything, just make points that may help you see it in a different light. If you went to watch a friend or a child play you would support them regardless of how well they play. A fan will just expect more and more and that is the difference. In simple terms, a supporter enjoys following a club whereas a fan will not.

Lastly you will not hear me saying if we had done this and that we would have finished here, I don't do that bud I just enjoy the ride. Life is a roller-coaster after all and I have a lot more important things to spend my time stressing over.
Been a pleasure talking to you and feel free to go into more detail about things if I'm maybe missing a vital point you have made.

Classic Spurs 1985 accusing someone of being unrealistic whilst at the same time comparing Tottenham to Chelsea. Then to go on and say Tottenham are a great team, that is class. 1985 you should check out a team called Barcelona, if you think Spurs are great you will be impressed with this lot from Catalonia.

I certainly don't expect a top 4 finish-my point was that it infuriates me that something so painfully obvious has been overlooked by the club. It is unfortunately becoming typical of Spurs to sign what's available and represents good resale value as opposed to what we need. There are a number of areas that could do with improvement in my opinion but I am conscious of boring the masses with my analysis of our players but I believe our team is made up of a few players I would deem exciting prospects, a few that have potential, a few that are good PL players, many that are overhyped and one world class (Lloris).

I am not easily impressed and I understand I am demanding; I believe this stems from "Remember the Titans". I would say that finishing 6-8 is where I see us settling as I sincerely don't believe Poch will gain us any points by outwitting anyone tactically-Man C, Chelsea, Man u, Arse and Liverpool will all be above us with the possibility of some wild cards dislodging us. Kane had an exceptional season last year but without his goals we would have struggled to finish where we did-the point being is that it has distorted reality as it seems that many think that he is a 30 goal a season striker which he may well be-but if he isn't?

I don't expect to convert anyone to my way of thinking, some will agree others won't and I enjoying discussing football; I don't say anything to be deliberately inflammatory or controversial. The constant change in direction is always going to unsettle the club-going from a disciplinarian to a tactician to a man motivator hinders players ability to progress. Having a manager that signs players, to a director of football to a sporting director (whatever that is) again isn't beneficial.

I retract my earlier comment your assessment above about fan v supporter is very apt and fair, and by my own admission I am critical and what I deem mismanagement of funds and personnel is what really irks me.

What I think we are lacking is the winning mentality, a bit of steel that won't let heads drop-once we conceded on Saturday every Spurs fan knew we wouldn't see it out-as Gary Neville disclosed we are "weak" and "never ready" as Fergie said "Lad's its Tottenham" and whether you are a supporter or a fan its imperative that this weak mentality needs to be eradicated.

I meant Chelsea only gaining 1 point in their two opening fixtures is as detrimental to their season as us getting 1 point (still with me?) if not more damaging as they are going for first place! I wasn't comparing quality or ability just the points lost vs effect on expectations of each team.

That Barcelona team you mention rings a bell tbh, ah yeah that's right I saw them in Spain playing a game of football at camp nou. Not a bad team I have to admit.

Hi Ed, You said " Levy spent the money two years ago". All he spent 2 years ago was the Bale money ie. Reinvested it. I think if you go back two or three years IE. To when Moderic was sold, you will find that Levy has made a surplus of at least £20 million on player dealings. This should be invested back in to the team.

THE TRANSFER WINDOW hasn't CLISED YET!
I agree that the CDM and CM positions feel light, but why not play Alderweireld in CDM and Dier as CB with the pace to cover Vertonghen. I think what is clearly evident is none of us believe Bentaleb and Mason are good enough to hold those berths.

This may seem like a radical plan, but assume we buy Berahino and Bolaise which looks likely. Would be look better if our team looked like this;

GK - Lloris
LB - Davies
CB - Vertonghen
CB - Dier
RB - Walker
CDM - Alderweireld
CM - Eriksen
LM - Chadli
CAM - Berahino
RM - Bolaise
CF - Kane

With squad players like Vorm, Rose, Wimmer, Trippier, Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll, Dele Alli, Dembele, Lamela, N'Jie, Townsend etc.

Hardly a weak team is it?
